  • When I Am Little Again
WHEN I AM LITTLE AGAIN and THE CHILD’S RIGHT TO RESPECT by Janusz Korczak Translated from the Polish with Introduction by E.R Kulawiec Foreword by Valeria Phillips Parsegian Illustrations by Gizela Gawronski Contents Table of Contents Introduction Foreword When I Am Little Again To the Adult Reader To the Young Reader This Is How It Was The First Day The Second Day Patch Love Grey Days The Child’s Right To Respect Introduction One early August day in 1942 a bearded, old man was observed leaving the Warsaw Ghetto at the head of a long procession of children ranging in age from ten to eleven years. In neat rows of four, fifty rows in all, the children moved in an orderly manner through the hot summer streets of Warsaw toward the Umschlagplatz set up by the then- occupying German troops beside the Gdansk railway station not far from the centre of the city. The old man at the head of the line, holding a child by each hand, walked with resolute step, in spite of a small frame weakened by fatigue and under-nourishment, giving courage and support to all those who followed behind. All eyes were upon the old man, a bright and hopeful beacon holding fast in a raging sea. The Warsaw Ghetto was being liquidated according to a master plan drawn up in the Berlin headquarter, and it was now the turn of the so-called “Little Ghetto”, the children’s institutions, of which the old man’s orphanage was a part. When the procession reached the railway station, the children, the old man, and his co-workers were all loaded into waiting freight trains which, upon signal and with tightly locked doors, transported them eastward to the little village of Treblinka.

NEIL SEDAKA • August 3 • 7:00 pm inger. Songwriter. Composer. Pianist. Author. These are just a few of the titles that describe NEIL SEDAKA. Classically trained at Juilliard, his impressive sixty-year career ranges from being one of the Sfirst teen pop sensations of the 50s, a tunesmith for himself and other artists in the 60s, a 70s superstar as well as a current constant force in writing and performing. Sedaka recorded favorite chart toppers “The Diary,” “Oh! Carol,” “Stairway to Heaven,” “Calendar Girl,” “Little Devil,” “Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen,” “Next Door To An Angel,” and “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do.” Neil has written hit songs for artists including Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, The Monkees, The Fifth Dimension, and Captain and Tennille. Always looking to challenge himself as a composer, he has returned to his classical roots, composing his first symphony, “Joie De Vivre”, and his first piano concerto, “Manhattan Intermezzo.” Neil recorded these two pieces with the Philharmonia Orchestra of London at Air Studios in London. “Manhattan Intermezzo” was released on 2013’s The Real Neil. “Joie De Vivre” was released on 2016’s I Do It For Applause. The accolades showered on Neil Sedaka have been numerous in his over six decade career. The National Academy of Popular Music has twice honored him, first with his induction into The Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984, and in 2004 with The Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes outstanding work in furthering the successes of songwriters.
