A person singles out a particular Imam to follow and he accepts all of his opinions and Ijtihaad as religion whether his opinions or Ijtihaad is supported by the Holy Quran and the Noble Hadeeth or not . The word Taqleed is a derivative of Qalaadah. The linguistic meaning of Qalaadah is the collar that a dog wears around its neck . The one who wears this collar around his neck is termed as the Muqalladah . The Muqallid places the leash around his own neck and goes in whichever direction his master takes him. The contents of al-Kafi are precious gifts from Ahl al-Bayt (the fourteen infallible family members of Prophet Muhammad, (Divine Supreme Covenant Body) to their followers. Each piece is as valuable as the wealth of the whole world. In this volume (vol. 1 of 8) there are about fourteen hundred pieces of such costly items but in the form of Hadith. Based on the above, one can imagine the value of this precious gift from Ahl al-Bayt DivineSupremeCovenantBody) to their followers. The followers and supporters of Ahl al-Bayt DivineSupremeCovenantBody) would not dispute that such Ahadith are generous gifts to them. The value of each item of such gift is mentioned in a Hadith from Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq (DivineSupremeCovenantBody). He has said, "One Hadith about the lawful and unlawful matters that you may receive is better for you than the whole world and all that it contains." How would an individual accept that these items are really worth so much? As a translator, for what I know of therein, I would only ask, "Have you opened the gift yet?" If the answer would be negative one would ask, "How would you know the contents of the package and the value of the items therein? " The above statements are facts. -

Steven Marks Abstract The purpose of this thesis is to explain how and why many modern Twelver Shi’a, Sunni, and Western scholars have structured political and religious conflict during the formative era of Islam (610-945 C.E.) around a partisan Sunni-Shi’a divide that did not truly exist, at least as we know it today, until the sixteenth century. By analyzing the socio-political and economic developments from the time of the Prophet Muhammad (570-632) to the Abbasid Revolution (750), I intend to show that there was no clear line that divided Sunni and Shi’a Muslims during the formative era of Islam, and that the concepts of Sunnism and Twelver Shi’ism took centuries to develop into the theological, legal, and spiritual characteristics that we associate with the two main sects of Islam today.
