  • The History of Kraft Foods Inc
The History of Kraft Foods Inc. All About Kraft Learn everything there is to know about Kraft: like who we are, how you can reach us and what we’re doing in your community. Kraft Foods Inc. is a company with many different roots and founders, all sharing a commitment to quality, a willingness to take risks and a spirit of innovation. Among the products now sold by Kraft Foods Inc. are so many “firsts” and innovations that a history of the company is almost a history of the food industry. Kraft traces its history to three of the most successful food entrepreneurs of the late 19th and early 20th centuries — J.L. Kraft, who started his cheese business in 1903; C.W. Post, who founded Postum Cereal Company (later renamed General Foods Corporation) in 1895; and Oscar Mayer, who began his meat business in 1883. The Story of J.L. Kraft The history of KRAFT goes back to 1903, when, with $65 in capital, a rented wagon and a horse named Paddy, J.L. Kraft started purchasing cheese at Chicago’s Water Street wholesale market and reselling it to local merchants. Within a short time, four of J.L. Kraft’s brothers joined him in the business, and, in 1909, they incorporated as J.L. Kraft & Bros. Co. In 1914, J.L. Kraft and his brothers purchased their first cheese factory in Stockton, Illinois. In 1915, they began producing processed cheese in 3-1/2 and 7-3/4 ounce tins. J.L. Kraft’s method of producing processed cheese was so revolutionary, in 1916 he obtained a patent for it and in 1917 the company started supplying cheese in tins to the U.S.

  • Kraft White Paper (V2)
KRAFT-ING ENGAGEMENT How creative digital agency, Gravity Jack, partnered with one of America’s most timeless names to create the future of brand engagement. In today’s world of major corporations, it’s not uncommon that any substantial need of a major company is brought “in house.” This can be done for any number of reasons (including the bottom line, protection of the brand, and more) but when this occurs, brands risk losing a very valuable perspective: A fresh one. At Kraft Foods, one of the world’s largest and most established and well-known brands, the approach is entirely different. The team at Kraft is responsible for running one of the most established organizations in the world — and, if you’ve kept any kind of an eye on the company’s stock over the past 5 years (here’s a hint: it’s going well), you’ll see their staff of nearly 23,000 do a fantastic job. When it came time for the brand to re-strategize for the future, however, they came to a massive realization: Very little (if anything) was being done to capitalize on one of the single largest, fastest growing, most brand-valuable platforms in the world. A platform, literally at consumers’ hip for 16 hours each day — not to mention, in the palm of their hands a whopping 6 hours a day. A platform where communication is instant, engagement is more valuable than ever, and commerce grows exponentially each year. A platform called “digital.” Specifically, mobile — and Kraft realized they were missing out on a great opportunity and needed an approach.

Using interviews and grocery-shopping observations, this dissertation compares how low-income parents and their higher-income peers decide what to feed their children, and it considers how these differences may contribute to health disparities. The food choices of low-income parents are not well understood. Public health research documents correlations between individuals’ diets and both their food access and their income, but this scholarship does not establish the underlying mechanisms of food choice.
