Lemont Classic Car Club’s Charity Car Show For the “Little Cruisers”

On Sunday, August 6th, with a rain date of Sunday, August 13th), we will be hosting our only PAY Car Show of the year to help fund our “Little Cruisers” annual Christmas party. The time is from 3 to 7 PM with registration starting at 3 PM. As everyone knows by now, The “Little Cruisers” are the children of the families that utilize the Lemont Food Pantry. When we first started this Charity Event, we only had 7 families. Last year approximately 11 years later we hosted 27 families and approximately 78 children. We have been fortunate that for the last 4 years we received about 75 % of our toys from the Tows For Tots organization. A group of our members go out to the Tow Truck Parade on the second Sunday of November and thank them personally for the toys that they give us. This Charity Car Show allows us the funds to purchase the Luncheon from Chesdan’s Pizzeria and Restaurant (and they give us some help with the food), Color TV, the family pictures with Santa Mrs. Santa and the Elves, the Christmas BINGO, the Christmas Trees and decorations and the Grocery Gift Certificates for the families Christmas Dinner. All total last year it cost us $3,500.00 for this party for these Children and their families. We enjoy hosting this event.....It is a great start to the Holiday Season and just seeing the smiles on the faces of these children is worth every penney! But it takes time and money to host an event of this size. So please, Come out to the Car Show it’s only $20.00 per car and the first 150 people receive a T-Shirt and a medallion with your registration fee. We always have some wonderful 50/50 prizes including 4 Box Seat tickets for a White Sox Baseball game, a chance to win a Color TV, and much much more. Also, WDRV 97.1 FM, the Drive Radio Station will be back out there with us and hopefully they will have some tickets for us to raffle off too!!! All season our Cruise Nights are FREE so please come out and help us to give these children a wonderful day to enjoy just being a kid ant Christmas. We also need help with the show so if you feel inclined to help us Call Sharen at 708-301-8899 to sing up and come out and work with us.

This Years Retirement Home Travels

This year the Lemont Classic Car Club was asked to visit 4 Retirement Homes in the month of June and July. The first one is always The Pointe At Kilpatrick off 143rd and Cicero in Crestwood. We have been going there for at least 5 years now. They served a wonderful lunch to all the car owners. About 9 vehicles come out for the residents to view. Bob O’Donnell, Rich Renkas and Jack VanEck won the awards at the Pointe this year. Thanks to all that came out on Saturday, June 17th. I’m sure that we will be invited back next year.

The Award winners from the Point At Kilpatrick On Friday, June 23rd, we were invited to the Cottages at New Lenox with our vehicles for their residents to enjoy. We had hot dogs, chips and pop and there was an Elvis impersonator for entertainment. We were only there for about 2 ½ hours and it was a nice day to sit out and visit with our members. Thanks for coming out and sharing your vehicles with their residents.

The Cottages of New Lenox June 23rd, 2017 On Wednesday, Brookdale in Orland Park asked us to come out for their residents and the 50's night. The Staff was dressed in 50's attire and we were served hotdogs, hamburgers, potato wedges, root beer floats, cotton candy and pepermint ice cream. This was our first time at Brookdale and the people just loved us. It did rain on us but we stayed until the streets dried and visited with the residents. One of the ladies that lived there was 102 years old and pretty sharp. She loved Dave O’Leary’s 1930 Model A and she was telling him how she traveled in a Model A just like that when she first dated!! Thanks to everyone that came out to Brookdale Retirement home. The Homer Glen Parade

On Saturday, June 24th, we were again one of the largest participating groups in the Homer Glen Parade. We had 17 vehicles there and set a new record for participating in this event. This is a fun morning! Everyone lining the parade route really enjoys viewing our vehicles and we are only there about 1 hour. The weather was really nice this year and all of our cars got through the parade route without much trouble. Hopefully next year we will get even more vehicles involved and set yet another record for our club. Every year we keep moving up in the parade line-up, this year we were number 11 and soon we will be in front of the emergency vehicles!! Thanks to everyone that came out for this fun event. If you have never participated in this event you might think about coming out next year. You really need to do this at least once....
