PBA Tour season to win the PBA Clash, taking home the $25,000 winner-take-all first prize while ushering in a new era of sports television coverage for the PBA on FOX Sports. Kent defeated seven-time tour and 2018 U.S. Open win- ner Dom Barrett of England, 218-215, in the title match that aired on FOX Sunday after surviving two elimination roll-offs at the Kegel Training Center. Down by 18 in the eighth frame, Kent finished the match with five strikes to go around Barrett who left a 10 pin on his first ball of the 10th frame after a double in the eighth and ninth frames, ending his hopes for the win. The Clash marked PBA’s landmark debut on FOX which will begin its 2019 Go Bowling! PBA Tour cover- age with the PBA Hall of Fame Classic at 8 a.m. on Sun- day, Jan. 6 on FS1. The eliminator format event showcased the season’s top eight money earners from the 2018 season. ADULT/SENIOR VIP DOUBLES BOWLING Potential Career Milestones

We Could Seeby Jef Goodger In of Flo Bowling 2019 TOURNAMENT Every sport has its own records and accomplishments all players hope to reach and exceed, and part of the reason those milestones are so important is because they happen so infrequently. SATURDAY, JANUARY 19, 2019 As the PBA moves into 2019, there’s a feasible chance we could see multiple players achieve some of the most elite Locals And Walk–On Are Welcome milestones in professional bowling. First, let’s get the absurd out of the way: yes, someone could theoretically win 14 or more titles, including all the $25 ENTRY FEE/CHECK-IN 11AM/BOWL AT 12 NOON For more information contact Jesse J. Dotson, Jr. majors, average 300 and earn over $4,000,000 in 2019. 909.628.3966 Email: [email protected] That would be fantastic, however, we needn’t be that outlandish. There are some huge moments within reach, realisti- 800-227-3849 Group Code B/ASLBT cally, of several players this year. Someone completes the Triple Crown Only six players in the history of the PBA Tour have claimed the PBA Triple Crown, and all of them are unsurpris- ingly in the Hall of Fame. Billy Hardwick, Johnny Petraglia, Mike Aulby, Pete Weber (who has actually earned the

BOOK SWEEPERS/GROUP RESERVATIONS/BIRTHDAYS/CORPORATE PARTIES Triple Crown twice), Norm Duke and Chris Barnes are the only players in the 60-year history of the PBA Tour to collect the necessary titles. 1.888.590.2695 Why is it so difficult? To win the Triple Crown, a player has to win each of the three original PBA majors: the World RiversideResort.com Championship (formerly National Championship), Tournament of Champions and U.S. Open, which always have been and still are three of the most difficult bowling tournaments to win. This year, three players in particular have a chance to claim the third jewel of the crown. EJ Tackett, who won the RiversideLanes.Dec2018.BowlingNews.inddRUSTY BRYANT 1 11/27/18 2:45 AM2016 World Championship and 2017 Tournament of Champions, nearly finished the job at the 2018 U.S. Open, before Lessons by Appointment falling to eventual champion Dom Barrett in the stepladder finals. Barrett, who added the 2018 U.S. Open title to his 2013 World Championship victory, is now a Tournament of Cham- pions win away from collecting a Triple Crown of his own. If Barrett can win the Tournament of Champions and Tackett THE PRO ZONE claims the U.S. Open, we could actually see two players complete the Triple Crown in 2019. “The Ultimate Pro Shop” There’s one other player – Jason Belmonte – who can viably complete the Triple Crown this year and doing so would 818 365-2050 simultaneously mean quite a bit more. If Belmonte is able to win the 2019 U.S. Open, he would not only become the seventh Triple Crown winner (eighth if Barrett wins the TOC in February), but he would also become just the third player ever (along with Aulby and Duke) to win the Grand Slam, which adds the USBC Masters, a title Belmonte has already won four times, to the three Triple Crown events. Even more impressive, since Belmonte also owns two Players Championship titles, he would join Aulby as the only two players to have accomplished the Super Slam, which includes all five major championships on the current PBA Tour. All that kicks in at once if Belmonte wins the U.S. Open. However, Belmonte can also tie and/or break the all-time record for PBA major championships in 2019, even before we get to the U.S. Open. Earl Anthony and Pete Weber share the record with 10 career major titles, and Belmonte’s next would be his 10th. If he can somehow win two majors in 2019, he’ll become the greatest major champion in PBA history. Of course, if Weber gets healthy and wins a major of his own (his last major came in the 2013 Tournament of Cham- pions), then Belmonte will have a little more work to do. Weber or Barnes finalize Grand Slam The hypothetical Barnes-Weber title match in the USBC Masters is getting less likely each year but fans can still ESTABLISHED 1940 hope. The two all-time greats famously lack this title and have combined for five runner-up finishes (three for Barnes, CALIFORNIA two for Weber). This season, we could conceivably MAILING ADDRESS EDITORIAL OFFICE 7502 Florence Ave. 11459 Imperial Hwy. see three players win their 20th titles. PBA Tour rapidly approaches its debut on FOX, FOX Sports continues to add good news to its budding relationship with the PBA.

First, FOX has created a bowling page on FoxSports.com, its official website, that will be filled with PBA player interviews and other news of interest to bowling fans. The website presence means additional availability of PBA news to millions of sports fans around the world, and includes a link to pba.com where fans can find all kinds of addi- tional schedule, background and statistical information.

Secondly, FOX has announced an extensive schedule of re-airs of PBA telecasts, in- cluding 14 re-broadcasts of Sunday’s PBA Clash on FS1 and FS2. That means that fans who may miss the initial telecast will have ample opportunities to watch the shows when they re-air. Because the schedules are so extensive, it’s always best to check your local listings for dates and times for those telecasts.

Third, a few FOX stations have exercised their options to pre-empt Sunday’s PBA Clash telecast from its regularly-scheduled 2:30 or 4:30 p.m. time (depending on your home market) and will air the show at a different time. A handful of the 210 markets with FOX stations have elected to re-schedule the telecast. Included are: Atlanta, Augusta, Charlotte, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Green Bay, Miami, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, San Francisco and Tampa. Fans in those markets should check their local listings for the re-scheduled air time on FOX, and also check their FS1 and FS2 channels for PBA Clash air times.

Fourth, a video preview of Sunday’s PBA Clash is now available on PBA’s You- Tube channe1 if you’d like to get a sneak peek at the show: https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=gvlnHsugY78.

Finally, the PBA Tour will be available in a variety of other outlets, including satellite radio. Viewers can live stream the PBA shows on the FOX Sports app, through the FOX and FS1 streams. The shows will be available on desktop at FOXSports.com and through the app store or on connected devices including Apple TV, Android TV, Fire TV, Xbox One and Roku. In addition, all programs will be available on FOX Sports on SiriusXM channel 83 on satellite radios and on the SiriusXM app. December 27, 2018 CaliforniaBowlingNews.com Page 5 PBA REGIONAL UPDATE: END-OF-SEASON EVENTS RESULT IN TWO FIRST-TIME TITLISTS BOWLING IN VEGAS ? So, if you get the chance drop in and see us at 1081 Daytona St Pahrump NV 89048. RV’s welcome! We spent three weeks on the road with many stops. It started with Juanita and I heading to El Reno OK for my daughter Marlene Schaefer’s Commencement Exercise at Redlands Com- munity College on May 11th; than on May 12th we attended my granddaughter Taylor McKay’s High School Graduation at Hennessy High School in Hennessey OK. Then on to Vandalia MO to pick up my granddaughter Emily Grimes and head to Syracuse NY on May 14th so I could bowl the USBC Open Championships on May 16th and 17th. While we were in the area, we visited Niagara Falls NY for several days and had a blast. We headed back to Vandalia MO with Emily and visited with my sister-in-law Rose Moser and my nephew Eric Moser for a day in Chatham IL. While in Vandalia MO, Juanita and I went to Louisiana MO on May 24th for my grandson’s High School graduation and we had a great time. We left Vandalia MO on May 25th and stopped in to see my grand- daughter Sabrina Runnels-Gulley. On May 29th we finally headed back to North Las Vegas and all I can say is what a whirlwind trip! 1626 West Warm Springs Road Henderson, Nevada 89014 • We had many guests at our house in North Las Vegas this year. The highlight was three of my grandchildren Dylan, Bethany, and Email Grimes who arrived in Las Vegas on June 18th and stayed with us for several days before I took them to Redlands CA. My daughter Jennifer and her children (except Alexa) spent July 4th at Canyon Lake CA on the Lake and had a blast watching the fireworks. Then on July 20th Juanita’s daughter Maria Martinez surprised her mom by coming for her belated birthday celebration. A big surprise was a trip in a helicopter from 702 Helicopters from North Las Vegas NV of the Vegas Strip. This was her first time in a helicopter and boy did she enjoy this! Before the Helicopter ride we went to see Nathan Burton Comedy Magic Show at the Saxe Theater and he was a hoot. We attended the Mama’s Wranglers show several times again this year. On June 19th while my grandchildren were here, we took them, and they loved it. Also went with Amy and Dan Petitt and several others this year. Love these guys and they are like family to me and an awesome group to watch.

This is my eighth year of being a member of the International Bowling Media Association (IBMA) and I was elected to be on the HITTING POWER FOR $30 EACH • $35 WITH NEW FINGER GRIPS board on June 19th in Las Vegas. For the 2017-2018 Bowling Season Juanita and I bowled in the Donut Doubles League at Texas Star Lanes and started bowling on Wednesday Night at Santa Fe Bowling Center in the Wagon Wheel League. I’ll be darned if my team didn’t win the league, even E-MAIL: [email protected] • WEB: WWW.JBBOWLINGSUPPLY.COM with my aged handicap. SHIP YOUR BALLS TO US AND PICK UP ON ARRIVAL I was very happy to bowl the Fun Time Tournament (No-Tap) that was held at the Orleans from July 16th to 18th . My doubles partner John Fitzgerald and I came in 7th, 4th, and 7th place in the three doubles events and I also cashed in the all-events. So, I must say this was an awesome tournament for me. On June 19th ,I attended the BPAA Industry Awards Luncheon and IBMA Annual Membership Meeting at Paris Las Vegas. On the

20th I went to the bowl Expo Trade Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center and of course took photos of these events. CONTACT US FOR YOUR ORDER SHEET I bowled with my brother David in the California Senior Games at Bowling Square Center in Arcadia CA on June 23rd and 24th. Once again we won a Gold Medal in the Scratch Doubles (75-79) and I also managed to bring home the Silver Medal in Men's Scratch Singles (75-79). We bowled in the August Military Veterans Team Classic at South Point Bowling Center and Plaza on August 12th-15th . Our team was “The Gulley Boys Plus 1 Moore” even though my brother Ken had to sit out this year. His replacement was Howard Humbles from California. Juanita and I attended the Colorado USBC State Hall of Fame Induction on August 4th in Lakewood CO where I took photos of the celebrations. The new inductees were: Steven Badovinac and James Johnson. Juanita was excited since while we were there, we saw her son Christopher and stayed at his home. I still manage to keep myself busy with photography. I was honored to be the photographer for many events this year. Highlights were the National Golden Ladies Classic held at The Orleans from March 12-15th and the 2018 South Point Senior Shootout at the South Point Plaza on November 12th . Then I fell on November 14th , got banged up pretty good and couldn’t take photos for the rest of the tournament. I took photos at many other events and was lucky enough to have several of my photos published in the Interna- tional Bowling Industry publication. I was asked to take photos at two weddings. First one of Robin Romeo and Tom Mcnaughton in Northridge CA on April 21st and then for Juanita’s grandson Harry Herman III and Riyo Archulota in Colorado Springs CO on August 25th. We had a blast at both weddings. While in Colorado Springs CO we attended Rita Whitlock’s 80th Birthday Party being held at the Airplane Restaurant on August 26th. It was great to see some of my old friends from the Springs. I was elected to be on the Board of Directors for the Cottages at Centennial Ranch Homeowners Association this year. However, I had to resign because we moved to Pahrump. We moved into our house in Pahrump NV on November 14th and had an early Thanksgiving Dinner at our home with my brother David and Jeanne Gulley and their granddaughter Justice Gulley. Juanita’s daughters Maria Martinez and Loretta attended with Lo- retta’s husband Arlen and their son Tomas. Our friend from the past David Johnson visited while he was in town from Fallon NV. My daughter Jennifer Grimes still resides at 806 N. Galloway, Vandalia MO 63382. My son, Randy Gulley Jr. and his wife Debbie Lewis still resides in Kansas City MO. Summer McKay and her daughter Taylor still live in Hennessey OK. Micah turned 22 years old on December 3rd and I believe ESPY he moved back to Hennessy OK. Marlene Schaefer and her daughter Brianna Doss live in Oklahoma City, OK. This year I lost many of my friends and I will miss all of them! Leo Richard; Arleen (Krenke) Dahlstedt; Beulah Louvenia Carter; Robyn Barker; Bessie May Washburn; Charles "Chuck" Doole; Verne A Slighter ; Morris B Pitts; Ethel Irene Harder; William H Ramsey ; SFC Carlos Dalton Fisher; James "JD" Dennis Jr.; and Dick Porter.

Many other things have taken place, but I have run out of room to mention them all. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and continued a great “2019”. RANDY & JUANITA from page 1 702 567 0749 MENT ? December 27, 2018 CaliforniaBowlingNews.com Page 7
