All contributions should be addressed to the Editor, or can be emailed to the: Community Centre at [email protected] clearly marked for the Community News. A BIG Bus Gate THANK YOU Shoppenhangers Thank you for organising the Christmas shoe boxes for Road Foodshare once again. We collected 162 ! That was an amazing number, people have been very kind. Please read more on page 8 We were able to give these to all the families with younger children who the charity is helping at this time, and certainly to all the families we support in the Cox Green area. These were received with much delight, as they were largely unexpected. The large number of boxes meant there were some left over after our food distributions over 23 & 24 Dec; happily Bridge Rotary Club knew of some other families who are experiencing some difficult times, and the remaining boxes were given by them to children this week. We are very grateful to everyone who contributed to this wonderful scheme.

Santa visits the Community Centre Santa paid a visit to the Community Centre just before Christmas. Although he could not give out the usual presents, he did let the children take a bag of sweets and the odd photo to bring a smile to their faces. There was also a Christmas stall, mulled wine and mince pies, hot chocolate and gingerbread men, to keep out the cold. We would like to thank everyone who attended this event. It was a great afternoon and we raised over £230 for the Centre. Thank You

MARRIAGE MATTERS If you live in Cox Green and are considering getting married in church, it may be helpful to know the procedure for those living in this parish. Anyone who lives within the boundaries of our parish, or who is on our Church Electoral Roll, or has a ‘qualifying connection’ is entitled to be married at the Parish Church. The Church of the Good Shepherd is located in the Community Centre on Highfield Lane. However, as our Parish Church is based in the Community Centre, we have the somewhat unusual legal situation whereby couples from Cox Green may be married either at the Good Shepherd, or in one of the following churches in our neighbouring parishes:  St Mary's, ,  All Saint’s, Boyne Hill,  St Michael's, Bray,  St John's, Littlewick Green,  St James the Less, Stubbings. Whichever church is chosen, couples should make contact with the Revd Joan Hicks (Vicar of Cox Green) in the first instance. If you would like to be married in one of our neighbouring parishes, we will make the necessary arrangements with them. Usually the marriage service is taken by the vicar from this parish, even when one of the neighbouring churches is used. The Vicar can be contacted at the Church Office on 632567 or by email: [email protected]. Changes in Marriage Law in recent years mean that you can be married in or through our parish if you have a ‘qualifying connection’ such as:  If one of you has been baptised and/or confirmed here  If one or both of you has lived in the parish for 6 months or more, at any time during your life  If one or both of you has attended worship in the parish for at least 6 months  If your parents have lived or worshipped in the parish (during your lifetime)  If your parents or grandparents were married in the parish.

More details about getting married in church can also be found on the church website: www.chogs.org.uk, or the Church of website: www.cofe.anglican.org (under ‘Life Events’) or www.yourchurchwedding.com

Marriage Preparation is offered to all couples getting married in, or through our parish. Most attend a Marriage Preparation Day with other couples getting married in the coming year, which is shared with two other local parishes. This is usually held in the Community Centre, or St Luke’s Church, or All Saints, Boyne Hill. The day is very relaxed and informal. If you are not getting married in church, but would be interested in attending our Marriage Preparation, do make contact with the Church Office and we will do our best to accommodate you. Details of our marriage preparation can be found on our website, as well as feedback from couples who have attended. The only part of the day which is specific to those getting married in church is the afternoon. You would be very welcome to join us for the morning session.

CELEBRATING SPECIAL WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES If you have a significant wedding anniversary coming up, you may like to consider having a special service in church as part of your celebrations. This would be an opportunity to give thanks to God for your life together and renew your commitment to one another. Re-affirming your marriage vows can be included if desired. Please contact the Revd Joan Hicks for more information on 01628 632567 or 622139, or email [email protected]

Bus Gate Shoppenhangers Road

Residents have raised concerns over a council proposal to put a Bus Gate in Shoppenhangers Road to stop car drivers using the stretch as a 'rat run'.

Concerns are as follows:  Shoppenhangers Road is a major route into and out of the town centre - a genuine 'main road'.

 There are multiple valuable facilities on and next to Shoppenhangers Road - the train station, the only boys secondary school, a primary school, 2 nurseries, a Care Home, 2 hotels, local shops, a GP surgery and a petrol station - all of which rely on easy access along the full length of the road.

 It is the only direct commercial route from the town centre to the businesses on Norreys Drive, the Vanwall Business Park and Foundation Park.

 It is the only direct route from the town centre to Cox Green, Woodlands Park and places beyond. The suggested alternative of Harvest Hill Road is a nonsense.  It is a narrow country lane, with blind bends and high hedges.

 Harvest Hill Road HAD to be used when the sewer works were being completed near Desborough College.

 This caused great inconvenience to businesses and locals alike, even though it was during lockdown.

 It proved inadequate for the traffic and potentially dangerous, judging by the tyre tracks on the verges as vehicles avoided collisions.

Please take the following survey: https://consultprojectcentre.co.uk/rbwmbusgate and share the link with your family and friends. Apart from safety & environmental impact, it would cut us all off from the town centre and massively increase congestion to Harvest Hill Road especially with the golf course regeneration plan.

Shoppenhangers Bus Gate Petition

In addition, a Maidenhead petition has been started through RBWM website to ask the Borough to abandon their plans or thoughts of introducing a Bus Gate on Shoppenhangers Road. Please can you sign this through the following web link. Thank you. Petition to: abandon their plans or thoughts of introducing a Bus Gate on Shoppenhangers Road. | The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead

You have until the 9th Feb to respond to both of the above. Thank you.
