Mehdi Courage in Journalism Award Dr. M.T. Mehdi was a pioneer in Arab American journalism, the publisher of ACTION Newspaper, a leading English- language Arab American newspaper. Dr. Mehdi was a high profile champion of Arab and Palestinian rights, appearing often on national television debates and discussions. As he championed Arab and Palestinian rights, Dr. Mehdi remained dedicated to accuracy, justice and a fearless determination to face the bias that exists in the main- stream media. The Mehdi Courage in Journalism Award was created in 1999 to recognize the achievements of individuals in the media and in communications who adhere to these principles of accuracy, justice and courage. Past recipients include Tribune columnist Salim Muwakkil, RAWI, columnist Charlie Reese, the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs, TV anchor Mike Monseur, and the Beirut Times newspaper. We are grateful to the Mehdi family for their support and encouragement in allow- ing this award to be bestowed each year on its recipients.
