Vote Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks as a New Leaf Community Markets Envirotokens recipient. Please show your support for Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks in the voting for New Leaf Community Market's 2015- 16 Environtokens donation recipients.

The program, started in 1993, gives customers who bring reusable grocery bags when shopping at New Leaf, a 10- cent Envirotoken to donate to the nonprofit of their choice. Six nonprofits are chosen to be Envirotokens recipients annually at each New Leaf location.

We need your vote to help be a part of this valuable community support program. Voting ends at 11:45 p.m. on May 31. PORTS Program celebrates 10th anniversary, earns state honor. The Parks Online Resource for Teachers and Students (PORTS) program and State Parks Interpreter Vonnie Lemke, who teaches from Seacliff State Beach, recently earned a special commendation at the State Parks Director's Recognition Awards Ceremony in Sacramento.

The program, which Friends funds a portion of, uses virtual classroom technology to bring our unique coastal environment to K-12 students across the state and beyond. Annually, approximately 8,000 students virtually visit Año Nuevo elephant seals and Natural Bridges butterflies via the Seacliff PORTS studio.

Save the Date! The 2015 Gerbera Save the Date! The 2015 Gerbera Festival will be June 20. Stop and smell the daisies at the sixth annual Kitayama Brothers Farms Gerbera Festival, a benefit for Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks.

The festival, part of the Greenhouse Growers Open House, will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 20.

The event features greenhouse tours, a flower-arranging competition, wine tasting by Storrs Winery, a Strawberry Shortcake Cafe and activities for kids. Visitors can also shop the farmers market for locally grown produce and gift items, or purchase potted Gerberas, dozens of varieties of bulbs and freshly cut flowers.

Kitayama Brothers Farms, host of Gerbera Festival, is located at 481 San Andreas Road in Watsonville (next to ).

The third annual Mole & Mariachi Festival will be Saturday, Sept. 19. The Festival is a benefit for Santa Cruz Mission State Historic Park. Your support will help fund educational programs, visitor services, capital improvements and increased public operating hours. Please join us as a sponsor, competitor, vendor or visitor!
