Description At the core of IBM Lotus Expeditor is the Eclipse Rich Client platform. Expeditor augments this platform with security, middleware, and an integration framework to provide customers with a supported product that has been proven in production on millions of desktops. Desktop client • The Composite Application Editor (CAE) has a "drag and drop" user interface which helps enable easier wiring of data between applications. CAE provides built-in navigators for multi- level tabs, buttons and other controls. • LiveText selection enables developers to make detailed information about the business process or customer available at the end users' fingertips. • An application container makes it easy to define how each page in an application interacts with other components. This Generic Application Container supports all types of Web applications including portal, servlet, HTML and PHP. • tm Struts support now automates the addition of Java JAR (Java ARchive) files to Web applications. Device client Provides Eclipse-embedded rich client applications, local data store, transactional messaging. Runs on Microsoft Windows® Mobile Professional and Standard Editions versions 5, 6 and 6.1 and WindowsCE 5. Enhancements include startup time reductions and footprint reduction improvements and platform builder support for creating custom platforms (for example, adding optional features and plug-ins). Server The optional server includes the ability to register clients, perform inventory, configuration of features, provide software updates and install/uninstall of features. The Server can also be used to manage the IBM Lotus Sametime® Standard and Advanced Clients, in addition to Expeditor client software and applications. Integrator An integration hub for satellite locations of an enterprise such as retail outlets or remote offices. Functions as a satellite enterprise service bus (ESB), acting as a local concentrator for transactional messaging with intelligent routing and filtering of business events and data. For example, Integrator can be used as a retail store solution to transform what had been a batch data transfer process into near real-time transactional system for next-generation retail business solutions. Integrator requires no local I/T management and can be deployed on modest PC IBM Europe, Middle East, and Africa Software IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 2 Announcement ZP08-0614 hardware. The integrator is ideally suited for retail store, bank branch, and other situations where the local concentration of and integration of data is needed. Toolkit • Offers rapid application development and deployment of portlet, Web and Eclipse-based applications. Plugs into Rational® Application Developer for WebSphere® Software 7.5, Rational Software Architect for WebSphere software 7.5, Eclipse Ganymede (3.4) , WebSphere Portlet Factory 6.1, or any other Eclipse Ganymede (3.4) - based IDE environment. • IBM Lotus Expeditor Toolkit now provides a development environment that closely matches the true deployed client by using an installed runtime as the target platform. Consequently, the toolkit is now easier to configure and use because it derives required information (such as default properties and personality) from the deployed client workspace. • The new Client Services Platform Configuration Editor allows the user to create artifacts that can be used to create custom platforms for the Desktop and Device Clients. For the Desktop Client, you can create custom provisioning data to install your desired platform, as well as your platform extensions. For the Device Client, you can create custom update sites or custom platform installations. • New support is provided for struts-based Web applications and portlets. • Allows remote debugging of applications with enhanced support for simultaneous deployment of multiple bundles. Device Runtime Environment software Provides the ability to host server side user interfaces, locally on a laptop computer or desktop system. The IBM Device Runtime Environment software is provided with the IBM Lotus Expeditor Client software as a separate package. Accessibility by people with disabilities IPLA and Subscription and Support considerations IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. You may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement (PoE). It is your responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license. Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made. Product positioning IBM Lotus Mobile and Enterprise Access portfolio extends, with enhanced security, composite applications to mobile and rich clients, based on role, context and process. IBM Lotus Expeditor is the flagship offering of this portfolio and provides a SOA-based server managed client software to extend composite applications beyond the data center. Positioning with regard to WebSphere Portal IBM Lotus Expeditor and WebSphere Portal are complementary offerings. In stand-alone deployments, they deliver different types of value but when used together, the two offerings deliver role-based, process-driven composite apps on rich clients and browsers. IBM Lotus Expeditor enables portlets to be part of composite applications that have components of different underlying technologies - not just other portlets. WebSphere Portal IBM Lotus Expeditor Client type Browser (No Managed client management required) (Eclipse or Web application based) Type of operation Connected only Connected or Semi-connected IBM Europe, Middle East, and Africa Software IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 3 Announcement ZP08-0614 Elements
