Front Cover.Psd Greetings! I would like to welcome you to the 8th CUNY Athletic Conference Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Classic held at Lehman College, to benefit the American Cancer Society. As you prepare for two days of exciting basketball action, we ask that you take a moment to remember the true purpose of this event. The Coaches vs. Cancer Classic is a collaboration with the American Cancer Society that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. With inspiration from Coaches vs. Cancer tournaments at the Division I level, we decided to join in the struggle against cancer in the Division III ranks. We are pleased to bring in a truly national slate of games for you to enjoy, with schools coming from Virginia, Michigan, Maine, and New Jersey. Also, we would like to thank our corporate partners, who have helped us run this year’s Classic. The Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown is serving as the host hotel, housing several visiting teams. The CUNY Athletic Conference has long been a supporter of this event, and continues to assist in various ways. On behalf of the Lehman College Department of Athletics, and the CUNY Athletic Conference, we would like to thank all of the players, coaches, fans and parents for their participation and support of this event. Together, we can make a difference in finding a cure for this terrible disease. Enjoy the basketball action these two days, and we look forward to having you here again next year to help continue the fight! St. Hill, Casey Cordrey Cancer Facts and Figures The American Cancer Society projects the numbers of new cancer cases and deaths expected each year in order to estimate the contemporary cancer burden, because cancer incidence and mortality data lag three to four years behind the current year. In addition, the regularly updated Facts & Figures publications present the most current trends in cancer occurrence and survival, as well as information on symptoms, prevention, early detection, and treatment. ACS has published Cancer Facts & Figures annually since 1952. These annual reports provide the most current information about cancer, including the projected numbers of new cancer cases and deaths for the publication year. A unique feature of these publications is their projections of the number of cancer cases and deaths expected in each state and in the nation in the current year. These widely cited projections are scientifically accurate enough to serve as a basis for research, yet readily understood by the public. Each edition of Cancer Facts & Figures includes a Special Section of in-depth focus on a specific cancer or group of cancers.
