Our program has proven that people, working in the private enterprise system, can improve their economic and social problems by uniting with a common purpose and pooling their resources and talents. “In 1965, a small group of determined volunteers sought to turn the area’s reputation of drought-stricken fields into visions of abundant greenery and sparkling lakes. The transformation was deliberate. Neighbors joined with neighbors to form a multi-county organization to promote the attractions in eastern and northeastern Oklahoma. Private enterprise joined hands with state and federal agencies in 1965 to improve the economy in the largely depressed counties of eastern Oklahoma”.1 Our efforts, combined with our partners in northeast Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Tourism & Recreation Department, 7 other lakes & countries organizations statewide create a public-private partnership that increases the economic impact of tourism dollars that exceeds $2.1 billion annually in Green Country and 9.6 billion in the state. The mission is simple: invite people to visit us and extend hospitality when they arrive! This easy to follow planner will assist you in tapping into professional quality programs that ensures you get “your money’s worth” while experiencing prompt and courteous service. 1 Charles C.
