CAROLINA HURRICANES NEWS CLIPPINGS • June 24, 2021 NHL Mock Draft 2021: From the Sabres through the Cup winner, Corey Pronman picks the entire first round By Corey Pronman The message out of Columbus is they need centers but once Seth Jones is dealt they will need centers and defensemen. We’re a month from Buffalo being on the clock so it’s time to Edvinsson, Hughes and McTavish are the names people start discussing how I think the first round of the 2021 NHL around the league think could be the pick at No. 5 with Draft will actually go. This mock will be 31 picks deep and Edvinsson being the one I’ve heard mentioned the most. there will be a longer one closer to the draft date. 6. Detroit Red Wings: Mason McTavish, C, Peterborough- This mock is less “intel” based, given a lot of teams haven’t OHL had meetings yet to put together their lists. The mock will discuss certain picks and how they blend with that specific McTavish is the name I’ve heard the most with Detroit early team, but readers should also use this exercise to get an in the mock draft season but team sources have also said idea of roughly what players I think will go at what range, and they think goalie Jesper Wallstedt or Michigan forward Kent what options their team could be looking at. This is not my Johnson could be the pick here too. An interesting thing with opinion of the players in the draft class. Those along with full this pick is both Johnson and William Eklund face questions reports can be found here.

Postgame Quotes Nashville Predators vs. Minnesota Wild Predators Quotes Head Coach Peter Laviolette On if he felt as though the team has improved with every passing game… There were some good things that we did and the wins are the biggest things. It’s also early in the season and we are trying to get our game in order, and hopefully we will continue to get better. On if he thought his systems were effective tonight… I thought we did what we needed to do during the course of the game. When it came down to the last 12 minutes it wasn’t about scoring a goal anymore – it was about making sure we were defending. We had a couple of holes in there and when we did, Pekka (Rinne) made some big saves. They (Minnesota) have a lot of fire power coming at them, especially their top two lines. We just need to make sure we are doing the right things defensively and I think our guys did that for the most part. On what he thought of Mattias Ekholm’s game tonight… I think he is one of the most underrated offensive defensemen in the League. It’s the skating for me that drives his engine – he has a skill level, he sees the game and he has good offensive instincts. He can really pound his legs up the ice and his goal was a perfect example of that. I thought he had a very strong game. On how he thinks Ryan Johansen has evolved as a playmaker… I think he has always been a playmaker.

  • Postgame Quotes Nashville Predators Vs. Winnipeg Jets
Postgame Quotes Nashville Predators vs. Winnipeg Jets Predators Quotes Head Coach Peter Laviolette On the fast pace of the game… I thought the first 10 minutes were really fast for both teams and we expected that and I’m sure they expected that also. I thought it got cut up a little bit by the penalties that took place through the course of the game but our guys found a way to stay in it, which was good. Sometimes it can get frustrating when you don’t score, but we stayed positive and kept working and eventually scored some goals. On getting under Winnipeg’s skin and agitating them… I don’t know if we were necessarily trying to agitate them, we were just trying to be competitive. We knew that the team that stayed out of the penalty box probably had the best chance of winning. When you’re just trying to get lines out there, it disrupts things a little bit, so I was happy we stayed in it mentally. On the Predators’ struggling power play… I think there are some things we can do better. You’ve heard me say this before – there’s always a stretch of time through the course of the season where something doesn’t go your way. You have to work at it and you give it extra attention, but we have a tremendous amount of confidence in the guys out on the ice, so I don’t see this as a long-term problem. We have to work our way through it.
