The usual annual events such as the Sport Administration Course, Olympic Day, Youth Camp followed with the inclusion of three (3) International Games: XX Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Nanjing Youth Olympic Games and XXII CAC Games in Veracruz. In commemoration of the Commonwealth Nations, the TTOC partnered with the British Council to host the Queen’s Baton Relay in Trinidad and Tobago before the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. A delegation of athletes, cyclists and motorcyclists took to the streets of Trinidad and Tobago carrying the Baton to celebrate the union of all Commonwealth Nations. Team TTO captured medals in each International Games in 2014. Receiving two (2) Gold medals at the XXII CAC Games in athletics and swimming. These medals were won by Cleopatra Borrel and George Bovel III. At the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, the team earned 8 medals in both athletics and boxing respectfully. Additionally, Team TTO represented at the 2nd Youth Olympic Games in which a Gold and two (2) silver medals were won. At the Annual Awards TTOC’s President, Mr. Lewis launched the 10 or more Olympic Medals by the year 2024 (10Golds24) Athlete Welfare and Preparation campaign, which marked a significant moment for the TTOC. The TTOC aims to keep the tradition of the Olympic Movement alive by hosting our annual Olympic Day event. On Olympic Day, the Lord Harris Square and Olympic House are to transformed into an Olympic hub where schools and athletes are invited to celebrate by deploying sports, cultural and educational activities. Ruth Frazer-Munroe 06 Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee SPECIAL EVENTS 07 Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee SPECIAL EVENTS The Queen’s Baton Relay March 11th – 14th 2014 The Queen’s Baton Relay is a much loved tradition of the Commonwealth Games, and symbolizes the coming together of all Commonwealth nations and territories in preparation for the quadrennial festival of sport and culture. On March 11th 2014, the Baton arrived in Trinidad and Tobago where a press briefing was held at the Olympic House followed by a welcome reception at the Office of the British High Commission. The Trinidad and Tobago Commonwealth Games Association (TTCGA) worked in collaboration with the British Council, the British High Commission and the Tobago House of Assembly to celebrate its brief stay. On March 12th, the delegation received greetings from the former National footballer, Dwight Yorke at the A.N.R Robinson International Airport in Tobago. Local athletes, motorcycle riders and cyclists took off across the island cheering the baton with the accompaniment of music and dancing. The relay continued in Trinidad on March 13th starting at the St. Joseph Secondary School with a formal opening. Trinidad and Tobago’s First Lady, Her Excellency Reema Carmona was the first baton carrier. The relay proceeded along the Eastern Main Road with participation of past Commonwealth Games Medallists, Glasgow 2014 athletes and Trinidad and Tobago’s Olympic and Paralympic Torch bearers. A large gathering of students and athletes were present at the Hasely Crawford Stadium for the Secondary School Track and Field Championships where the relay concluded, with a final run by the British High Commissioner Arthur Snell and a hand over to the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. 08 Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee SPECIAL EVENTS Annual Awards – 29th December 2014 ANNUAL AWARDS 2014 The Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee’s Annual AWARDEES Awards ceremony can be described as one of the most prestigious events in the sport calendar occurring on the Alexander B.
