  • DOST-SEI Announces Qualifiers to the 2021 S&T Undergraduate
Republic of the Philippines Department of Science and Technology Science Education Institute Service. Excellence. Innovation. DOST - SEI announces qualifiers to the 2021 S&T Undergraduate Scholarships The long wait is over for the applicants to the 2021 DOST-SEI S&T Undergraduate Scholarships as the Department of Science and Technology - Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) announces today the names of qualifiers to the said program. The DOST-SEI did not conduct the national scholarship qualifying examination in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Institute employed data analytics and proxy indicators in place of the exam to identify qualifiers. Documentary requirements were collected through the agency’s E-Scholarship Application System beginning June 2020. These documents, including the students’ grades in Grades 9-11, which were obtained and verified from their respective schools, were evaluated. “In the face of the new normal, we had to adopt a new selection scheme to determine the qualifiers for our scholarships. We wish to highlight that each application was meticulously validated, and the collection of grades took some time; thus, it took us several months before we could finally release the results,” said DOST-SEI Director, Dr. Josette T. Biyo. Of this year’s qualifiers, 3,815 qualified under the RA 7687 program—scholarships for gifted students who belong to economically disadvantaged families; while 4,252 qualified under the Merit program. They will receive notice of award sometime in September courtesy of DOST-SEI or the concerned DOST Regional Offices. In the list, 2,042 names were marked with one asterisk implying some lacking documents; while some names were withheld pending completion and evaluation of requirements.

  • Bohol Residents Clean up Panglao, Dauis Beaches
REGIONS Bohol residents clean up Panglao, Dauis beaches By: Leo Udtohan- Correspondent / @leoudtohanINQ Inquirer Visayas / 02:15 PM March 06, 2018 Government officials and employees and volunteers have joined Tuesday’s synchronized Panglao-Dauis-Tagbilaran City coastal cleanup removing trash from the shores of the resort island. Leo Udtohan/Inquirer Visayas TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol – Government officials, volunteers and residents joined a coastal cleanup on Panglao Island, one of the country’s favorite tourist destinations plagued with environmental problems. Hundreds of volunteers composed of students, the public and authorities gathered on Panglao beach early Monday to collect garbage at the coastlines. Tarcisia Guirigay, 65, a resident of Barangay Tawala in Panglao town, woke up at 5 a.m. on Tuesday to join her neighbors in picking up garbage along the coastline. ADVERTISEMENT “I helped in the cleanup because I want our town to be clean. It cannot be prevented that tourists would throw their garbage anywhere because they don’t know where to put these,” she added. Among the trash she picked up were cigarette butts, plastic beverage bottles and other plastic containers which were segregated properly. Bohol Gov. Edgar Chatto led provincial heads, national agencies, municipal and barangay officials in the clean-up. “We do not need laws, regulations, or even reminders if we truly love Bohol,” said Chatto reminding everyone of the role of enforcement agencies, investors, and Boholanos during show of force to make sustainable tourism happen for Bohol. He reiterated provincial government support to local governments in the implementation of laws. “Development is a balancing act as its consequences bring displacement.

  • Here at Aklan State University Main Campus in Banga This July 4-6, 2019
1 We encourage you to use the website and mobile app for current information and to navigate the Symposium. Changes to the scientific program will be published on an addendum that will be posted on messages board. 2 In line with this year’s theme, the logo symbolizes the strategic cooperation between the scientific community and the different facets of the local institutions and the government to achieve wholesome and sustainable seas. The lower half signifies the ocean while the upper half shows the diversity of marine life and its interconnectivity with food security and environmental resilience. The halves meet at the center forming a handshake embodying the common understanding of the local communities, government, academe, private sector, NGOs, and especially the Filipino masses on the protection, management, and holistic conservation of the oceans. Lastly, the hues used also represent the colors of the sea at the break of dawn, signifying a new chapter for a more hopeful, science-based, and community- oriented future of the Philippine seas. Best logo design for PAMS15 Mr. John Michael Lastimoso 3 SYMPOSIUM SPONSORS 4 Welcome Message It is with great pleasure and excitement that we, the Philippine Association of Marine Science Officers 2017-2019, welcome you to the 15th National Symposium in Marine Science at the Aklan State University, Banga, Aklan on July 4-6, 2019 with the theme “Fostering synergy of science, community and governance for healthy seas.” As PAMS continues to undertake the task of promoting growth in marine science in the country, the PAMS15 will focus on highlighting the complex people-sea relationship and look more closely on the ways by which we can address the growing issues and risks to food security, biodiversity, and community resilience.
