An unprecedented year for the bed tax in 2016 resulted in more support to artists and ARTIST PROFILE arts organizations than ever before. Twenty-seven Operating Support grants were awarded totaling $3.1 million and 57 grants totaling $561,842 in Project Support. VIDEO VIEWS The Art Makes Columbus/Columbus Makes Art campaign generated nearly 400 online, print and broadcast stories, $9.1 million in publicity and 350 million earned media impressions featuring the arts and artists in Columbus. We held our first annual ColumbusMakesArt.com Columbus Open Studio & Stage October 8-9, a self-guided art tour featuring 26 artist studios, seven stages and seven community partners throughout Columbus, providing more than 1,400 direct engagements with artists in their creative spaces. We hosted another outstanding Columbus Arts Festival on the downtown riverfront 142% and Columbus’ beautiful Scioto Greenways. Gateway Economic Development Corporation of Greater Cleveland (Gateway) was formed in 1990 by the City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County, for the purposes of financing, building, owning and operating the Gateway Sports Complex in downtown Cleveland. Gateway owns Quicken Loans Arena, as well as Progressive Field and surrounding common areas, including Gateway Plaza along Ontario Avenue. Gateway’s lease agreements with the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Cavaliers, as revised and extended in 2004 and 2007, facilitate Gateway’s ability to continue as a good steward of these two tremendous buildings, as it has been for a generation. The leases with the Indians and the Cavaliers require the teams to pay for operating and maintenance costs of their respective facilities, many of the capital repair costs, as well as all of the cost of operating the Gateway Corporation. Given the indelible impact and legacy of Fred McLeod, and how he touched so many across the media and fan community, as well as the team he loved, the Fred McLeod TV Studio & Media Workroom serves as a lasting tribute to someone that was universally admired, respected and appreciated as a fellow media member and willing mentor to a countless number across the industry. Before and after every Cavaliers home game, home and visiting team media members gather in the television studio and media workroom space on the event level of Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse to hear from, and interview, the Cavaliers head coach. The space is also used for many other media events and reporting elements throughout the year by attending media covering games and events for newspapers, magazines, television, radio, websites and other digital platforms, as they write and file their respective stories and coverage inside the walls of this important area. A Strongsville, Ohio native, Fred served as the television voice of the Cavs since joining the team and FOX Sports Ohio in 2006.
