  • Whiffle Colt Rip Van Winkle X
INTRODUCING THE RIP VAN WINKLE X WHIFFLE COLT Last year Mike and the team left New Zealand Bloodstock’s Karaka complex convinced they had potentially seen the best first season sire ever represented in Windsor Park’s son of Galileo, Rip Van Winkle. This year was no different. Our appointed bloodstock selector, Paul Moroney, compiled his final list for the Premier Yearling Sale and Rip Van Winkle was again very well represented among Paul’s top selections. Given Rip Van Winkle was twice crowned European Champion Miler, best of his age at that distance at 3, a triple Gr.1 winner, son of a champion racehorse/sire and grandson of another in Sadler’s Wells, his chances of succeeding at stud have always looked bright, and the quality of his stock have further raised that prospect. This colt was very high on Paul Moroney’s list of potential classic horses and we are extremely pleased to have secured him. His dam, Whiffle, is by the very successful sire and broodmare sire, Red Ransom, who is responsible for producing 93 individual stakes winners in the broodmare sire role including Champion NZ Stayer Red Ruler, Gr.1 1000 Guineas winner Roll Out The Carpet, Gr.2 winner Catalonia as well as a further seven individual Gr.1 winners. Whiffle is also the dam of stakes placed juvenile Kona Breeze, two time winner Hollywood Breeze and Darcy’s Law (High Chaparral) who created a fantastic impression on debut recently when scorching home from last - only to miss by half a head on the line.
