Erasmus Mundus Full Scholarships Nominated The Erasmus Mundus Program has selected three European Union. Dr. Victor Faessel has been appointed program coordinator for the Orfalea Center for Global and International Studies. This new staff position is responsible for coordinating Center projects and activities, and assisting with publications and grant-writing. Victor previously served in a similar capacity with research centers in Japan and at UC Berkeley. “I am extremely excited to be involved in helping to develop the Orfalea Center,” Victor said, adding: “This is a unique position from which to engage in the emerging fi eld of global studies, and it allows a great opportunity to work within a variety of disciplinary perspectives.” Victor graduated from San Diego State University and did graduate work at the University of Vienna before receiving his PhD from the Pacifi ca Graduate Institute in 2004. The focus of his research was comparative study of mythology. Since his arrival in October 2003, he has Dpublished fourteen articles and is working on four different book projects: Global History in the United States, Germany, and China: Assessing the Debate and The Political Crisis in the Aftermath of World War I – China and Germany in a Global Context, together with two edited volumes: Alternative Vision of World Order: Global Moments and Movements, ca 1880- 1935 and International Historiography in China. This record of research and publication only begins to suggest the scope of his professional achievements both before and after he arrived at UCSB. In addition to lecturing and speaking at conferences in the U.S., Europe, and China, he has been the principal organizer, planner, and, on several occasions, chief fundraiser of major international conferences in Sydney, Beijing, Berlin, and Santa Barbara. Also, since 2001, he has been a selected member of the elite Triglav Circle (an NGO with the special consultative status of a state to the United Nations) and was instrumental in bringing the Triglav Circle to Santa Barbara for a meeting on March 18 and 19 of this year.
