    We, women and men in public life, historians, intellectuals and people from all faiths, have come together to declare that the defence of values of justice and fraternity must overwhelm all obstacles to prevail over intolerance, racism and conflict. We say clearly that the Israelis and the Palestinians have a right to their own state, their own sovereignty and security and that any peace process with such aims must be supported. In the face of ignorance, prejudice and competing memories that we reject, we believe in the power of knowledge and the primacy of History. We there- fore affirm, beyond all political considerations, our deter- mination to defend historical truth, for no peace is built on lies.The Holocaust is a historical fact: the annual rePorT 2008 genocide in which six million European Jews were exter- minated. To deny this crime against humanity is not only an insult to the memory of the victims, but also an insult to the very idea of civilization. Hence, we believe that the teaching of this tragedy concerns all those who have at heart the will to prevent further genocides. It is true, you may well say, that it is reflected in the very history of our people that we have learned over the centuries to live with joy and hope, as much as with fear and fatalism. Let us acknowledge this extraordinary resistance of the Jewish people who refuse to fall victim to the evil from which it remains under constant attack, always knowing to reach unto the depths of their inner strength, and draw upon their faith, and their humour, their immense creativity and self - sacrifice along with the commitment towards overcoming difficulties and violence and continuing to move forward, strong and united, towards their future. Rudi Rizman Medkulturni dialog kot sredstvo preprečevanja konfliktov na primeru islamskih skupnosti v izbranih evropskih državah Magistrsko delo Ljubljana, 2014 POVZETEK Medkulturni dialog kot sredstvo preprečevanja konfliktov na primeru islamskih skupnosti v izbranih evropskih državah O muslimanih v Evropi se intenzivno govori po terorističnem napadu 11. septembra 2001 v ZDA, napadu v Madridu leta 2004, Londonu leta 2005, nemirih v francoskih predmestjih istega leta in po protestih zaradi karikatur preroka Mohameda. Islam je zaradi omenjenih dogodkov postal sinonim za nasilje, terorizem in zatiranje žensk, kar vpliva na položaj muslimanov, ki predstavljajo največjo manjšino v Evropi. Skupno jih v evropskih državah živi okoli 23 milijonov, velikokrat pa so podvrženi diskriminaciji, ki jim onemogoča popolno vključitev v družbo. Med muslimani je v primerjavi z večinskim delom prebivalstva višja brezposelnost, zasedajo manj kvalificirana delovna mesta, izobrazbena struktura je nižja, nimajo predstavnikov v politiki in so slabo organizirani. Pogosto so tudi tarča islamofobnih dejanj, kar še dodatno povečuje nezadovoljstvo v skupnosti in prispeva k njihovi radikalizaciji. Po drugi strani je med večinskim prebivalstvom opaziti porast nacionalizma, ki je najočitnejši v Franciji in Nemčiji. Zanemarjanje vprašanja ureditve položaja muslimanov bi v prihodnosti lahko pripeljalo do družbenega konflikta, če se evropske države ne bodo reševanja tega vprašanja lotile resneje. Konflikt, ki grozi Evropi, ni posledica verske pripadnosti in islama, temveč predvsem socialno-ekonomskega položaja muslimanov, ki je zaradi diskriminacije in nestrpnosti slabši od položaja večinskega prebivalstva.
