No need to get out of the car or go out of your way – just drive through for your flu shot! This year, it’s more important than ever to get a flu shot. The COVID-19 pandemic has been pushing our country’s healthcare system to its limits since March, and shows no real signs

FLU SHOTS of stopping. Add the effects of a typical flu season and you get some pretty scary numbers that could overwhelm hospitals and healthcare systems across the country. Adults under 65 will receive a $30 quadrivalent vaccine and those 65 and over can get a $65 high-dose vaccine. Pay by cash, check, or credit card and you can use your receipt for reimbursement from your insurance carrier. If you are covered by Medicare Part B or a Medicare HMO accepted by FHN, there will be no out-of-pocket charge (please present Medicare card*). Of course, you can still get a flu shot from your provider (cost may vary from drive-thru prices).

DRIVE-THROUGH FLU SHOT CLINICS • If your last flu shot was before June 1 2020, you need a new one for the coming flu season. OCTOBER 3 • 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. • Kids 18 and under cannot be vaccinated at the drive-through clinics. FHN provider offices Terrapin Park, 350 West St., Elizabeth will have appropriate dosages for children. OCTOBER 10 • 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. • All persons in vehicles attending a clinic must arrive wearing a face covering; those receiving Eastland High School, 500 S. OCTOBER 14 • 3 – 6 p.m. * Persons covered by a Medicare HMO accepted by FHN MUST present the Medicare FHN Family Healthcare Center – Burchard Hills HMO card instead of the Medicare card for billing. No other insurance coverage can be accepted at the drive-through clinics. OCTOBER 17 • 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. 382177 Eastland High School, 500 S. School Dr, Lanark FHN will not hold walk-in flu shot clinics this year due to precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. 11 The Scoop Today/Shopper’s Guide - Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020 • 11 Antibiotics work best when used properly When Alexander Fleming pro- antibiotic resistance. disease by either killing them or in- must be used, treatments take longer disease-fighting bacteria, which can duced the first antibiotic in 1928, it Bacteria are single-celled, living terfering with the bacteria’s repro- and may require hospital stays. BEST Inc. is partnering with Illinois Valley Community College, Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce, Northwest Illinois Economic Development and Rock Island Tri-County Consortium to deliver outreach to area businesses across all industry sectors within the 11-county area being served. Outreach will include making businesses aware of the benefits of sponsoring an apprenticeship program, including the positive return on investment, the process of developing an apprenticeship program, and linkage to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeships. “Thousands of occupations and companies have already benefited from the apprenticeship model and the state of Illinois is looking to expand those opportunities by another 800 apprentices over the course of the grant period,” according to a news release. Locally, the project looks to add 20 new registered apprentices along with five new programs. Nikelle Tellier will serve as the project manager and be responsible for coordinating efforts among the partnering entities.
