Diocese of Leeds Catholic Academy Trusts Summer 2020 The Holy Family Catholic High School has been requested by the diocese, as part of their academisation of all their schools into five trusts of ‘families of schools’, to join the Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust. Academies ◼ Formally group schools under one legal organisation – the Catholic Academy Trust ◼ Are independent state schools responsible to the Bishop and Secretary of State for Education ◼ Local authorities are responsible for co- ordinated admissions, safeguarding and SEN ◼ Take responsibility for their staff, land and buildings and can look for new ways of working together to benefit the children Advantages ◼ A shared vision for Catholic Academy Trust schools whilst retaining each school’s individual characteristics and ethos; ◼ Greater protection for individual schools in a rapidly changing political, financial and educational climate; ◼ Opportunities to share expertise, facilities and resources from specialist teachers across a trust that will benefit all; Advantages • Formalised school liaison allowing joint liaison and working together to provide the best quality of provision for the benefit of local children and young people; • Improved use of individual school’s finances though economies of scale offered by the bulk acquisition of services and resources; History ◼ 2012 - Bishop Arthur gave permission for schools in the Diocese of Leeds to convert to academies ◼ Condition – Mission must be to strengthen Catholic education and promote the distinctive nature of Catholic academies ◼ Diocesan Trustee determined model of academies – five diocesan trusts Diocesan Trust Model Bishop Marcus has endorsed the future pathway with his requirement for all schools to become part of a family My conviction comes from the faith that we share as one family in the Church; faith in Lord Jesus Christ who will guide us with His light and sustain us with His grace as we make this journey. The strength of any family is in the quality of its relationships. This is evident when its members, respecting the dignity of each, work together for the good of one another and in the service of the common good. This too will be our strength in the years ahead if, as a diocesan family of schools, we are able to build relationships, forge solidarity and develop a collaborative framework of family groups of schools that is resilient to present and future challenges, and provides us with the confidence to take advantage of new opportunities. Yes, this is no different to present arrangements. ◼ Will school hours, holidays or uniforms change? Holy Family will continue to plan that holiday dates are in line with local feeder schools. There are no plans to change the school day or the uniform. ◼ Will the staff stay the same? All staff who are in role on the conversion date will move across and continue working at Holy Family. ◼ Who will recruit/interview and appoint new staff? The Headteacher and Chair of Governors will continue to do this with support from the Academy trust human resources department. ◼ My child has an EHCP – will this continue to be funded? EHCP funding will continue as it is now. Message from the Headteacher ◼ Bishop Marcus’s letter and vision for Catholic Education in the Leeds Diocese set out this journey to academise in February 2018. Please read his letter that is on our website. ◼ Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust (BKCAT) is an existing, established Catholic Academy Trust and we have been working with their schools, as partners, in the diocese for many years. Please have a look at their website: http://www.bkcat.co.uk/ ◼ Bishop Konstant Trust, like us, has a clear vision for young people and their families: ‘Within the Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust, our academies are communities where our children and young people are given a clear vision for life, a vision which is rooted in the person and teachings of Jesus Christ and which is faithful to the mission of the Catholic Church.’ ‘The Trust seeks to serve all our families (Catholic and non-Catholic alike) and to work with other partners in education for the benefit of our children and young people; we are committed to working together as academies and with the wider community for the common good. In our academies, we uphold the dignity and unique human value of every person as we strive for excellence in education; gifts and talents are shared between our academies as we aim to provide the highest standards for all our children and young people, aged 3 to 19 years throughout the Trust.’ Consultation Process ◼ In normal circumstances the diocese would have invited parents to a meeting where they could ask questions and meet representatives from the diocese and the Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust. As this is not currently possible, the diocese are running a ‘remote’ consultation process. ➢ Information on our website: an information PowerPoint, a ‘Frequently Asked Questions/Answers’ document and the Bishop’s Vision. ➢ Remote information meetings for parents: if you would like to join a remote Microsoft Teams consultation meeting please email [email protected] and we will send you a date/time and joining details ➢ Remote information meetings specifically for students: if you would like to join a remote Microsoft Teams consultation meeting please email [email protected]. We will then contact your parents for permission and set up a time/date. ◼ We welcome our parents, students and wider community to be part of our planning for joining the Academy Trust. Consultation Dates: Monday 15th June to Monday 13th July Thoughts from parents, students and the wider community will be taken and discussed at a governors meeting at the end of the consultation process. The earliest date for joining the Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust has initially been set by the DFE for the 1st October 2020..
