Seeing the finish line The Daily Journal Eight years ago the Ukiah Valley Cultural and Recreational Center was only a vision. Construction began on what has since been renamed the Alex Rorabaugh Gymnasium-Cultural & Recreational Center in 2003. Phase II of the project -- the cultural and recreational side of the center (which does not include the gymnasium) -- is now well under way and expected to be complete sometime in August, according to facility Executive Director Richard Shoemaker. That means by Fall, the local Boys and Girls Club should be moved in. “This is wonderful since they already have 445 children signed up with the Boys and Girls Club who will have access to the center,” fund-raising consultant ZoeAnna Thies said. The total cost of Phase II is $1,953,000 , according to Thies who said another $250,000 is needed to completely finish the Richard Rosier/The Daily Journal cultural and recreational side of the facility.
