iWeb iWeb is an iLife application that helps you create websites quickly, without needing to know how to program code or how to write HTML. Step 1: Plan What is the primary purpose of your webpage? Plan your page before you even open the application. Step 2: Prepare Create a folder to store all the contents of your webpage. You will use this folder to submit and publish your webpage. Open Macintosh HD Go to my classes Class you are creating project for Click on File New Folder Name the folder (lastname_firstinitial_iweb) Step 3: Open iWeb/Get Started iWeb is an application. Opening it will allow you to begin creating your webpage. Launch iWeb (Mac HD Applications iWeb) iWeb Choose a template for your page. The column on the left will allow you to choose different backgrounds and under each page on the right is the type of page. For a Facebook, MySpace, Bio page, About Me is suggested. Select the type of page you want on the right. It will then be outlined in yellow. Select Choose. FOLLOW THIS STEP ONLY IF THE TEMPLATE BOX DID NOT POP UP AUTOMATICALLY. Select File- iWeb interface will appear. See the explanation below. 2 iWeb Step 4: Using the Toolbar/Inspector 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 1- Theme- Use this button to change the theme if you don’t like your original choice. Caution: Change themes at the beginning. All of the personalized content may not transfer properly to the new theme. 2- Text Box- Use this button to create text where there is none. 3 iWeb 3- Shapes- This button allows you to put a shape on the webpage. Common shapes are rectangles, squares, and circles. 4- Media- This button will allow you to access Audio, Photos, or Movies stored in your computer. Drag and drop any item to your webpage. 5- Inspector- This button will show you many different options. Read the Inspector Highlight below. 6- Colors- This button will allow you to change the colors on anything from text to the background. The options seen on the right are different ways to view the colors. 7- Fonts- This button will allow you to change font, size, bold, italicize, and underline the text. Inspector: Step 1 Click on the Inspector button The Inspector box will pop up with these icons at the top 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 1- Site- Change the Site Name. This will show up on the left sidebar. No need for a Contact Email. 2- Page- Change the Page Name. This will show up on the Navigation Menu at the top of the site and on the left Sidebar under the Site name. Layout, the other tab, will allow you to change the background color and image lines. 4 iWeb 3- Photo- This button is mostly used when editing pictures from the Photo or Album type pages. 4- Blog & Podcast- This button is generally not used during projects, but it controls components of the blog entries and podcasts. 5- Text- This is used to edit text size, alignment, color, and wrap. Bulleting and Lists are also available in the button. 6- Graphic- You can edit colors, lines, and opacity of shapes on your page. You must first click on the shape, then you will be able to edit using the Graphic button 7- Metrics- Rotate pictures and text and adjust the size. 8- Link- Enable hyperlinks to the internet, other pages in your site, or a file. Type the web address (if applicable) in the URL: box. Make sure both Enable as a hyper link and Make hyperlinks active are checked. Select any picture or text, then select link in inspector to link them together. 5 iWeb 9- Quicktime- Edit the way movie files display on your webpage. They can autoplay, loop, or be manually adjusted. Step 5: Changing Text/Pictures Select text by double clicking on the text. It will then be highlighted. Type your new text. The size, font and color of the previous text will remain. Select an image by clicking once on any picture. You can adjust the size by clicking and dragging on the edge of the image. To put a new image or file in, click Insert at the top of the screen. Select Choose. Select a file to replace the current image. To undo a move, select Edit, select Undo Step 6: Publishing (Give final product to teacher) Select File. Select Publish to a Folder. 6 iWeb Choose the folder you created in Step 2. Leave the URL field blank. Select Choose. Select Continue once you have made sure you are obeying copyright laws. Select OK. Your site is now in the folder you selected. Save your iWeb and Quit iWeb Drag your entire folder to your teacher’s Virtual Share (as instructed). 7 .
