The Official Newsletter of the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey Vol. 39, No. 6 Representing owners, breeders, drivers, trainers & caretakers TRIXTON TO STAND STUD AT DEO VOLENTE Trixton, the 2014 Hambletonian champion, has been retired and will stand stud at Deo Volente Farms in Flemington, NJ for the 2015 breeding season, it was jointly announced by Hall of Fame trainer-driver Jimmy Takter and Mike Gulotta, majority owner of Deo Volente. “I’m excited that this great colt will stand in New Jersey at such a great farm like Deo Volente” said Takter, who makes his home at Millennium Farm, his training center in East Windsor, NJ. “Trixton represents a significant new beginning for the New Jersey breeding industry in tune with Jeff Gural’s enlightened stewardship at the New Mead- owlands racetrack,” Gulotta said. “We think Mike Gulotta has demonstrated great fore- sight to stand Trixton in New Jersey,” said Standard- bred Breeders & Owners Association President Tom Luchento. “We hope breeders will share his faith in the future of the New Jersey program and breed their mares to Trixton.” In two seasons of racing, Trixton earned $947,057, taking his mark of 1:50.3 while defeating Nuncio in the Hambletonian, despite racing the entire mile Trixton parked on the outside. Trixton is by Muscle Hill, a son of Muscles Yankee, who is responsible for consecutive Hambletonian win- ners Deweycheatumnhowe [2008], Muscle Hill [2009] and Muscle Massive [2010]. Muscles Yankee is the foremost son of foundation sire Valley Victory. Trixton is link number four in a leading sire line. Trixton will stand for a fee of $12,000 in 2015. NJRC'S NEW MEDICATION RULES EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 3 The New Jersey Racing Commission’s new medication rules will go into effect starting November 3, 2014. Trainers and veterinarians are urged to review them, especially the changes in dosing for Betamethasone and Dexa- methasone along with the recommended withdrawal time for Clenbuterol. There are 26 medications categorized as Controlled Therapeutic Medications. These medications are permissible only when a race horse tests below the threshold levels set forth in the RCI Controlled Therapeutic Medication Schedule, Version 2.1. The schedule may be found on the web at arci.com. Choose Model Rules and Standards and then ARCI Controlled Therapeutic Medication Schedule - V.2.1. Pay particular attention to the dosing specifications for Betamethasone and Dexamethasone. The threshold level for Betamethasone will decrease from 100pg/ml of plasma or serum to 10pg/ml of plasma or serum. The threshold level for Dexamethasone will decrease from 100pg/ml of plasma or serum to 5pg/ml of plasma or serum. The recommended withdrawal time for Clenbuterol will increase to 14 days. Baggitt Sr., 81, of Allentown, NJ, a longtime horse owner and a member of the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association Board of Directors since 1985, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2014. Baggitt was on the owner, finance, pension and special events committees of the SBOANJ. For many years, he co-chaired the SBOANJ’s golf outing, which each year raised money for the horsemen’s benevolent fund. It was through his wife of 54 years, Sandra, and her father, driver-trainer Larry Powers, that he was introduced to harness racing. His son, Bob Jr. and nephew, Jack Baggitt Jr. are both horsemen. Baggitt joined the Navy and served on a destroyer from 1951 to 1956, during the Korean War, and worked for New Jersey Bell Telephone for 37 years, starting as a lineman and retiring as a repair supervisor in 1991. For many years he was a school bus driver in Up- per Freehold Township while his wife oversaw their 12-acre farm in Allentown, NJ, which is called O-No Acres. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 54, Freehold, the Tin Can Sailor Associa- tion, a member of Colts Neck Fire Company No. 1 from 1960 to 1980, and a founding member of the Colts Neck First Aid Squad. He was a member of the first group of officers to serve in Colts Neck Township Police Department, a Colts Neck Little League coach, and Boy Scout leader in Colts Neck. Surviving are his wife, Sandra Powers Baggitt; his children, Robert M. Baggitt, Jr. and his wife Christine, Ellen Cunningham and her husband Michael, Larry Baggitt and wife Tina, Robert M. Baggitt Sr. Timothy Baggitt and wife Kelly, Nancy and husband Robert Fitts; two sisters Rosemary with his wife, Sandra. Smock and June Higgins and her husband Larry; his grandchildren, Tyler Baggitt, Erica McDonald, Logan and Connor Cunningham, Alessandra, Lauren, Christina and Riley Bag- gitt; and Bob J. and Jesse Fitts; great grandchildren Ella McDonald and Rylee Fitts. CANE PACE MOVING TO THE MEADOWLANDS The Cane Pace will find a new home at the Meadowlands as part of the stakes-laden Hambletonian Day card on August 8, 2015. In addition to the Cane Pace, its filly companion race, the Shady Daisy, will also join the Hambletonian Day program. The Meadowlands will also be adding a race to complement the John Cashman Memorial Trot with a stakes for older trotting mares on Hambletonian Day. SBOANJ OFFICERS RE-ELECTED; PERRETTI REJOINS THE BOARD President Tom Luchento and his slate of officers were re-elected by the Board of Directors and Anthony Perretti was selected to fill a vacancy at the monthly meet- ing of the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey at its Ma- nalapan office on Monday, October 20, 2014. Perretti, a former Board member, returns to fill the vacancy created in the owners’ category by the death on October 1 of Robert M. Baggitt Sr. The re-elected officers include President Thomas F.
