ABSTRACT Objective: The aim of the current study was to determine the presence and prevalence of Eimeria and helminth species in sheep raised in Erzurum province by using fecal examination. Methods: Faecal samples were collected from a total of 784 sheep raised in Aziziye, Yakutiye and Palandöken districts between February-March 2019. The samples were examined by Fulleborn’s flotation, Benedect sedimentation, and Baermann-Wetzel methods. Results: Eimeria spp. and helminths were found in 49.36% (387/784) and 74.11% (581/784) of the samples, respectively. Identified Eimeria species were as follows: E. parva (59.68%), E. ovina (51.67%), E. faurei (47.80%), E. ahsata (39.27%), E. granulosa (36.62%), E. punctata (28.42%), E. pallida (26.09%), E. ovinoidalis (18.34%), E. crandallis (16.79%), E. intricata (15.76%), E. weybridgensis (11.36%) and E. marsica (6.20%). Helminth species identified at genus/species level were Dicrocoelium spp. (33.91%), Fasciola spp. (5.68%), Paramphistomum spp. (2.58%), Moniezia spp. (5.85%), Trichostrongylid type egg (49.05%), Marshallagia spp.

Materials and Methods: The medicinal plant species utilized by local public for remedial aims were collected and identified. The related knowledge about conventional herbal medicine was collected, herbarium materials were prepared, and they were deposited in the Herbarium of the Faculty of Science, Atatürk University. Results: A total of 77 medical plants pertaining to 30 families were defined in this research. Amongst these, 62 species grew naturally and 15 species were cultivated. The most widespread medicinal plant families were Asteraceae (14), Rosaceae (7), Lamiaceae (5), and Apiaceae (5). The most widespread preparation was decoction. Conclusion: The ethnobotanical outcomes documented in this study provide practical evidence about the use of medicinal plants among the inhabitants of Aziziye District. Furthermore, the results revealed that the medicinal plants of the region are a major source of herbal drugs for primary healthcare utilized among the rural communities. This study can be utilized as baseline knowledge for further scientific research to improve new plant-based commercial drugs, and may transfer the traditional information as regards usage of medicinal herbs to new generation.

Since bee products become more widespread, the sector gains importance. The field of beekeeping production has quite important contributions to both enterprises and national economy. Beekeeping provides employment and revenue for the rural population of developing countries thanks to its features such as low operating cost and less need of labor force compared to other production. Although Turkey ecologically has a very favorable nature for beekeeping, unfortunately only a fraction of its potential is used. Moreover, productivity in beekeeping enterprises is very low too. Therefore, these enterprises were examined in terms of socio-economic structure and the factors affecting the productivity were determined via regression analysis. Erzurum province, which has good beekeeping potential but can’t utilize the potential, was selected as the research area. The number of the examined enterprises was determined through proportional sampling method, including 80 surveys. According to the study results, it was determined that the beekeeping activity was mostly performed by middle-age farmers. The most significant issues affecting honey production were indicated as “inappropriate climate conditions” and “wintering loss”.

  • Examination of Analysis Results of Oltu Stone/Side Rock Samples
International Journal of New Innovations in Engineering and Technology Examination of analysis results of Oltu stone/side rock samples Oyku Bilgin1 Department of Mining Engineering, Şırnak University, Turkey Abstract- Oltu-stone is a stone variety and is used as ornamental material. The carbon ratio is high and resembles lignite coal. The oltu-stone is found in the mountainous areas with a small amount around the Oltu districts of Erzurum. Mining activities are made by taking long efforts. Since it is fragile, special hand tools are used for removal and processing. Although it is very soft when removed from the soil, it has a hardening property when it comes in contact with air. Its processing is easy and fast. It shines as it is used. It is usually black and brown. When it is burned, it burns out like a hart in a flameless manner. It has the ability to attract light objects by electrifying with friction. It is known that there are more than three hundred mines in the region. In this study; Oltu-stone samples are taken from the mining area operating in the region of Oltu of Erzurum province. Then, element % weight ratios, X-ray, SEM of oltu stone samples are determined and examined with graphics. The elements which are generally known as a sediment and used as a semi- precious gemstone in the construction of ornamental material are examined. Keywords –Oltu stone, Micro analysis test, X-ray, SEM, enrichment I. INTRODUCTION Oltu stone, which was extracted as a semi-precious stone in the districts of Oltu and Olur, northeast of Erzurum(Turkey); It is an organic lignite-type stone formed by the carburization of vegetable remains in the underground for millions of years.

9 Archaeobotany of Sos Höyük, northeast Turkey Catherine Longford1 1Department of Archaeology Andrew Drinnan2 The University of Sheffield Antonio Sagona3 S1 4ET, UK [email protected] 2School of Botany The University of Melbourne 3010 Australia 3School of Historical Studies, Centre for Classics and Archaeology The University of Melbourne 3010 Australia Abstract Sos Höyük, located in the Pasinler Valley of northeast Turkey, is a multiperiod site occupied from the Late Chalcolithic to the Medieval Period. No major archaeobotanical analysis has been conducted on the carbonised plant remains from Sos Höyük. Samples from three time periods, the Late Chalcolithic, Middle Bronze and Iron Age were selected for analysis. Examination of both seeds and wood charcoals has indicated a complex and changing pattern of plant use over time. From wood charcoals, four vegetation zones (riparian woodland, open oak woodland, mountain pine forest and birch forest) were identified in the Pasinler Valley during antiquity and exploited by the occupants of Sos Höyük. Change in wood pro curement patterns suggests the depletion of the open oak woodland in the Pasinler Valley between the Middle Bronze Age and Iron Age. A reduction in wood resources is supported by the use of dung fuel as a firewood supplement from the Middle Bronze Age. These findings correlate with the pattern of deforestation across the Near East and suggest a combination of human and environmental causes for vegetation change in the Bronze Age. A second deforestation event is proposed for the modern period. Keywords: Vegetation history; deforestation; climate change; archaeobotany; Turkey 121 Introduction Sos Höyük is an archaeological site located in the modern village of Yiğittaşı in Erzurum Province, northe ast Turkey (Figure 1).
