WORLD BIBLIOGRAPHIC INDEX: ALPHABETICAL (I) AND IN ORDER OF ACCESS (II) The collection of texts, from which the materials for the data base of The Protocol for World Peace were abstracted, was begun on January 1, 2000, and the finishing work on the final portion of this effort—the Four Governing Indices (World Table of Contents, World Authors A- Z, World Bibliography, World Archives)—was completed on Christmas Day, 2017. * In this bibliography, every effort has been made to discover for each source its card catalogue identification in the constituent libraries of Cornell University, which appears in each entry as a single-word English short-form of their names—OLIN, ASIA, URIS, AFRICANA, COX, ILR (International Labor Relations) etc.—printed prior to each catalogue number. Very occasionally the source is designated in the RARE collection, referring to the library housed in the Rare Book depository; even more occasionally the source is designated as an “Electronic Resource” (If the source edition actually used is not listed, the nearest English-language edition is listted; if there is no English edition, the closest non-English; if the work is entirely absent, but there is present something else by the author that has been collected, the citation “other stuff” will be seen.) Bangkok Kingship: The Role of Sukhothai Hiram Woodward The subject of Sukhothai in Thai consciousness, 1800 to 2000, is vast and complicated.1 Certain parts of the story have already been told well by others, and there is a good deal that is beyond my competence to deal with. This lecture presents bits and pieces, souvenirs from months of unsystematic research, rather than a distillation of one section of a comprehensive study. There is a limited amount of art and architecture—despite my background—but a fair amount about texts, including an extended discussion of the Ten Royal Virtues, although the virtues are, in fact, only a small part of the total picture. Among the themes I shall touch on as well are the importance of paternalism and of royal lineage. King Rama I In 1808, according to the memoirs of Princess Narintharathewi, not long before the death of King Rama I in 1809, there was a royal order that a monastery be built right in the middle of the city, as tall as Wat Phanan Choeng in Ayutthaya.2 This was to become Wat Suthat. Phra Phirenthonthep was sent to bring down a big image (phra yai) from Sukhothai. This is usually thought to have been the principal image at Wat Mahathat in the center of the city, and is sometimes identified with the image founded by King Li Thai in 1361, according to inscriptions.3 The most treacherous part of the trip must have been the very first portion, overland. Surely, in 1808, Wat Mahathat at Sukhothai was as nearly overrun with vegetation as it was at the end of the century.

ANNUAL REPORTS THE HONORARY AUDITOR'S FINANCIAL REPORT FOR 1979 We have examined the statements of assets and li abilities ofthe Siam Society (Under Royal Patronage) as at 31 December 1979 and 1978, and the related statements of revenues and expenses for the years then ended. Our examinations were made in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards and, accordingly, included such tests of the accounting records and such other auditing procedures as we considered necessary in the circumstances. The accounts of the Society are maintained and the accompanying financial statements have been prepared on the cash basis, with adjustments to give effect to unsold publications, dues collected in advance and inclusion of provision for depreciation. r no ur opinion, the financial statements referred to above present fairly, on the basis indicated in the preceding paragraph, the assets and liabilities of the Siam Society(Under Royal Patronage) at 31 December 1979 and 1978 and it s revenues and expenses for the years then ended, applied on a consistent basis.
