Women’s Basketball All Access October 2011 A LETTER FROM THE DESK OF COACH BEN LISTER

Greeting to all of the Lady Wildcat fans that are out there! First of all, I want to take the opportunity to let everyone know how thrilled I am at having the privilege to coach at such a tremendous academic and athletic institution. Baker truly is a special place and I want to thank all of you for your support of our proud program and all that you do to help make it a success. Without all of you, Baker Lady Wild- cat Basketball could never reach its full potential!

The school year is off and running and we have taken full advantage of prepar- ing for our upcoming season. With so much change, it has been a welcome relief to see the leadership of the team buy in to the direction we are trying to take this program. Our off-season conditioning has been intense and competitive. Each of the girls know that every day is an opportunity to earn the right to play when the season starts, and although they are committed to team success, they know that now is the time to prove that they deserve to be on the court. They are doing that in their training, their individual work-outs, and by focusing on their grades. Our motto is “Expect to be Elite,” and we are pursuing that in all areas.

With change comes the responsibility to bridge the gap with the past and recog-nize that Baker is the program that it is because of all the dedicated athletes and coaches who helped build this program. I thank all of you and particularly Coach Decker for her contribution and service to Baker during her tenure as coach. She continues to be helpful and gracious as the baton is passed!

Recruiting is off to a great start already as well! We have signed our first student-athlete, Ericka Simpson for 2012-2013 season. We are extremely excited about her future and you can read more about her on our website at www.bakerwild- cats.com

We are on the verge of starting our official practices, and I could not be more excited to get them going. We have a team that I believe is hungry to prove themselves. There is no doubt that we are young and have a lot of ground to cover in practice, but the commitment to excellence is there. We are not afraid of hard work and we welcome the challenge we are facing. This is a motivated group that is committed and we are going to push to be elite! “The rewards for those who persevere far exceed the pain that precedes -Coach Ben Lister victory.” WHAT TO LOOK FOR INSIDE THIS EDITION Page 2 - Taking a look at 2011-12 schedule Page 3 - Player Spotlights - Senior Gloria Atanmo | Senior Rae Lynn Stewart Page 4 - Alumni Corner - Patti Phillips 88’ set to be inducted into Hall of Fame Page 5 - Wildcats in action - Taking a quick look at the preseason thus far www.bakerwildcats.com 2011-12 Schedule Be sure to check back on www.bakerwildcats.com for live broadcast dates. Local star Ericka Simpson signs with Baker Area high school girls basketball standout Ericka Simpson has signed with Baker Uni- versity, Wildcat head coach Ben Lister announced on Wednesday. Simpson, a senior point guard from Spring Hill High School, signed her letter of intent with the Wildcats on Sept. 14. “We could not have been more pleased with the addition of Ericka to our program,” Lister said. “She is an excellent student-athlete. Her ability to play the one or two will allow us to utilize her skill set in multiple ways. We are fortunate to have her join our program.” As a junior, Simpson averaged 15 points, four assists and three rebounds per game, earning first-team all-Frontier League and first-team tri-county honors and receiving all-state honorable mention. Gloria Atanmo 5’10 | Senior | Avondale, Ariz. WHY IS BAKER SPECIAL TO YOU? Baker is special to me because it has grown into an extended family made of teammates , coaches, friends, faculty, and staff who all look out for my best interest. Coming to Baker on a limb and never stepping outside of the state of Arizona prior, I was forced to adapt, but found it very easy because of the welcoming environment.

WHAT IS YOUR TEAM GOAL FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON? Is to play championship-caliber basketball while surprising our opponents with our tenacious will. Also surprise ourselves by reaching new heights and overcoming obstacles.
