(Alternates first, then first come first serve) About Necronomicon and Stone Hill Necronomicon was started by a group of fans looking for a way to put on a great convention. Thus was formed the Stone Hill Science Fiction Association. Stone Hill is a Not for Profit group. These conventions are run for the enjoyment the staff and volunteers feel upon successfully pulling off yet another 3 day weekend. The Stone Hill Science Fiction Association is a Tampa area club. Founded in 1979, it’s a gathering of people that share interests in science fiction, fantasy & horror. These interests range from movies, TV, comics, gaming, computers and everything in between. 2 Straight from the bowels of Broadway, Necronomicon is pleased to present Necro Gaming: The Musical Production Team Biographies DEAN DRYER (PRODUCER) Born in a foreign country and raised in Florida by a pos- sible space alien, Dean embraced the gamer lifestyle and learned many important life lessons that serve him to this day. While best known for the Opera production of Alien, starring Miley Cyrus, Dean has always wanted to celebrate the underappreciated and much maligned Gamers. He came up with the idea for this musi- cal while standing in line at the DMV. HEATHER DRYER (THE DIVA) Long known for singing at the drop of a hat…or a shoe, Heather devoted years to studying her craft (music, not witch). As a result, she is stunningly good – and she knows it. Married to Dean for many years, Heather expects that you know she got the starring role in this musical on sheer talent, not because she slept with the producer. Outside of being a fabulous performer, Heather collects fairies (real ones) and likes to go spelunking. MARNIAC (STAGE MANAGER) No one knows what Marniac really does, but she is always there, lurking. A huge fan of the work of Dean Dryer, she is hon- ored to have been forced…err…asked to be the stage manager for this production. If you look carefully, you may spot her at work, doing stage managerial things. Look for the one with her tongue hanging out like Miley Cyrus (her idol). ROB RITCHIE (CHOREOGRAPHER) Rob sends his regrets for not being able to attend this production of Necro Gaming: The Musical, which he consid- ers his magnum opus. Rob was given the last minute opportunity to choreograph the grand finale of the International Wooden Shoe Dance Competition in the Netherlands, which occurs on the same weekend. Since the IWSDC is on his bucket list, he is sure we understand. 3 Gaming Panels Date Time Location Name Panelists & Description SAT 10:00 Sand Hill How to Get Started Publish- Karen Boginski, Christopher AM Crane S ing Games Helton, Ken Shannon Host: Hal Greenberg - Got a game in your head that you think others would like? • Richard Lee Byers PROLOGUE
THE YEAR OFROGUE DRAGONS book11 Richard Lee Byers PROLOGUE 2 & 3 Mirtul, the Year of Rogue Dragons (1373 DR) To Fodel’s chagrin, Natali saw them first. He was the one who knew they were coming, but still, it was his fellow sentry with her keen eyes who spotted an outstretched wing momentarily blocking the light of a star, or perhaps the leading edge of the dark mass creeping over the ground—Fodel could tell by the way she gasped and snatched for the bugle hanging at her hip. Fodel whipped out his dagger and thrust at the slender redhead’s sunburned neck, at the bare flesh between mail and helmet. Thanks be to the Sacred Ones, the point drove home before she could blow a note. Warm blood sprayed out and spattered his hand. The brass horn fell clanking onto the wall- walk. Fodel winced at the clatter, but maybe no one had heard. He grabbed the corpse before it could collapse and make even more racket, wrestled it to the edge of the battlement, and shoved it over the merlons. It landed with a thud on the ground outside the castle. He scurried for the stairs leading down into the bailey. Avarin met him in the courtyard and with a nod, conveyed the message that he, too, had killed his companion up on the battlements. For the moment, no one remained to raise an alarm. That couldn’t last. They had to finish their work quickly. Still, as they approached the ponderous mechanisms of windlasses, chains, and counterweights that controlled the portcullis and iron valves, they forced themselves to slow to a saunter.

Here on neutral ground we gather in peace to celebrate our love of all Strange Fiction, Fantastic Events, and Horrific Tales. Knights will rub elbows with wizards, and orcs can mingle with elves to watch the newest Scrying Wall shows. Attend the fascinating panels where experts can tell you how dragons avoid indigestion (Sunday 11 am) or the best damsel rescuing techniques (Friday, 10 pm). On these pages you will find all the details you need to find your favorite events of the Convention. Please keep in mind that this document was prepared months in advice by our monk in residence (the writing kind, not the punching kind), and any last minute changes will be noted in the Schedule Parchment available at Registration. So eat, drink and be merry! You are amongst your kin even if they have scales, fins, or pointed ears. Or perhaps it’s because they have them! 3 The King’s Edicts 1. No Smoking - The hotel, State of Florida, and Necronomicon have instituted a no smoking policy. The only places where con members may smoke are on designated smoking floors and outside. 2. Weapons - No real weapons, bladed weapons, or simulated weapons that can shoot a projectile are allowed. Also, if it looks like a real gun, it’s not allowed. The only exception is for preapproved Masquerade participants. All hall costume weapons and props must be approved by a member of Necronomicon staff.

  • Children of the Rune
“No one, in truth, knows for sure where the power of the rune comes from . .” Hvanen said. “Some speculate that it has to do with the ancient dragons that left the realm for the west. Some think it comes from the gods. Or that the land itself has a level of awareness and intelli- gence all its own. Since we do not even understand the power’s origins, certainly no one knows for sure why runes appear on the flesh of some but not others.” He glanced at Rand, who stared back intently, not attempting to conceal his eagerness to hear more of such secrets. “I suspect,” the verrik continued, “that the runes are tied to the very nature of the land itself. The power of the runechildren is the might of the land made manifest. Those who find themselves so marked are those who would use the power on behalf of the land. Somehow, the runes seem to know who should have them, and who should not. It is far less a reward than a responsibility.” “A burden, then?” asked Rand. “That is not the word I choose.” “A manifestation of destiny?” “More a manifestation of power,” said Hvanen. “A bequeathal of the right abilities on the right person at the right time. .” Sample file PROUDLY PRESENTS MONTE COOK’S ARCANA UNEARTHED A variant player’s handbook written by one of the designers of 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons®. Here are my reviews of these seven not-so-short stories.1. Traitors by Richard Lee Byers. Im not a big fan of Byers works, because I find his novels way too action oriented for my liking, with plot and character development often completely disregarded. I was pleasantly surprised by this story. A very strong story of conflicting loyalties. He kept a nice pace through all of 70 pages, and gave us a good ending. Indirectly touches the events in his Year of the Rogue Dragons trilogy. ****2. The Staff of Valmaxian by Philip Athans. This story didnt sit with me, to be honest. Had a promising start, by completely faded towards the end, which was a big cliché by itself. **3. Necessary Sacrifices by Lisa Smedman. A beautiful, sad story. The idea was simply great, but got a bit drawn out.
