Royal Cromer Golf Club History Established 1888 Royal Cromer Golf Club owes its existence to the enthusiasm and love of the game of a Mr. Henry Broadhurst M.P., a Scot who lived at 19, Buckingham Street, The Strand, London. In the 1880's, whilst holidaying in Cromer, he recognised the potential of land to the seaward of the Lighthouse as a possible site for a Links Course. The popularity of North Norfolk at this time had been noted in the London City Press in a report dated 5th September 1886: "The public are greatly indebted to railway enterprise for the opening up of the East Coast. More bracing air and delightful sands are not to be found in any part of England. The only drawback is that the country is rather flat. This remark, however, does not apply to Cromer, which bids fair to become the most popular watering place, it being entirely free from objectionable features". The site of the proposed golf course was owned by the then Lord Suffield KCB, who kindly consented to the request of Broadhurst and some twenty other enthusiasts to rent the land. The Club was instituted in the Autumn of 1887 with Lord Suffield as President. Doubtless it was his friendship and influence with the Prince of Wales which precipitated the Prince's gracious patronage of the infant club on 25th December 1887. Thus Cromer had a Royal Golf Club even before its official opening the following January. -

We have to be realistic about housing in that the necessity for more homes is nationwide and we shall not escape certain numbers being allocated to Holt. However, with the Holt Neighbourhood Plan addressing topics such as character, style and size, we at least have the opportunity to guide planning to suit the needs of our own residents and necessary infrastructure, as our Plan will be a document which gives legal weight. Neighbourhood Development Plans arise from the Government’s Localism Agenda to ensure that local communities are closely involved in the decisions that affect them. Through the aspirations and needs of the local community of Holt you have identified matters which will help to determine how our town changes over the coming years. The Holt Neighbourhood Plan has been developed over the course of the last few years and drafted by a Steering Group that includes Town Councillors, local business owners and representatives from the local community. -

Heritage & Community Railways unite to encourage day trippers to make a day of it – on the trains! August 27, 2021 The Heritage Railway Association (HRA) is backing Community Rail Network’s ‘Days Out by Rail’ campaign to encourage more day trippers to leave the car at home and take the train, well two trains in fact, for an educational and fun filled day out at one of the many Heritage Railways accessible from the main line. The idea, to use community railways to travel to one of the 32 heritage railway lines connected to the national network or have an interchange with it*, is part of a wider national awareness campaign to highlight green, scenic leisure travel by rail. The eight-week initiative being led by Community Rail Network’s tourism arm, Scenic Rail Britain, is raising awareness about rail as one of the greenest ways to travel – especially combined with walking, cycling and buses – avoiding traffic jams and parking and making the journey part of the experience. HRA CEO, Steve Oates said: “Days Out by Rail may sound familiar for those of us of a certain age who remember as a child setting off for a day out on the train with the family Rover Ticket or Away Day special on the Intercity 125. Updating the idea of Days Out by Rail not only encourages travel but, this time, sustainable travel. What better way to enjoy the UK rail network through the ages in one day, travelling from a local station on the national network to link up with a heritage line? “It is definitely much more relaxing that being behind the wheel in a traffic jam on your way to a tourist attraction. -

Dette var komiteen enig i. - Vi håper at boken, slik som den foreligger, vil være av interesse først og fremst for Larviksfolk og utflyttede Larvikensere, men også for sjøfarts- interesserte i sin almindelighet. The DfT’s Autumn Update of the Rail Network Enhancements Pipeline (RNEP) on the progress of schemes funded in CP6 (2019-2024) makes salutary reading, and the message is clear: don’t hold your breath! Even schemes buoyed by a visit from the S of S for Transport are still at an early stage, eg Skipton - Colne at Decision to Initiate, and Ashington - Blythe – Tyne at Decision to Develop. No scheme can proceed into delivery until it has a Decision to Deliver. So, taken at face value, even Phase 2 of the Western section of East West Rail (Bicester - Bedford) has yet to be confirmed.
