National Unity Day

In memory of Sardar Vallabai Patel Birth Anniversary and National Unity Day on 31.10.2017, Run for unity-2017 programme was conducted under the leadership of Sri. Pydikon- dala Manikyala Rao garu, Hon’ble Minister for Endowments, Govt of A.P at Tadepalligudem. Staff and students of College of Horticulture, Venkataramannagudem have participated in this programme.

Impact Study Report Report on “Impact Study on Rejuvenation of Mango, Cashew, Citrus and Guava in ” prepared by Dr. D.V. Swami, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, Post Harvesting Tech- nology Research Station, Venkataramannagudem and his team was submitted to Sri.Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor & Ex- officio Secretary to Govt. of A.P. in presence of Dr.B.Srinivasulu, Registrar and Dr. J. Dilip Babu, Director of Research, Dr.YSRHU on 30.10.2017.

T & V Workshop On 17.10.2017, Bi-Monthly T & V workshop was held at Commis- sionerate of Horticulture, under the chairmanship of Sri.Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor & Ex-officio Secretary to Govt. of A.P. Dr.J.DilipBabu, Director of Research and Dr.R.V.S.K Reddy, Director of Extension reviewed the seasonal and crop conditions in all the districts presented by the officers of Department of Horticulture and discussed about action plan for the next two months to improve the condition of horticultural crops in the state. Education RHWEP Activities RHWEP students of CoH, Venkataramannagudem allotted to HRS, Ambajipeta organized an exhibition and Rytu Sadassu as part of RHWEP programme and exhibited production technologies and protection models, live samples of coconut, banana, vegetables and value added products of coconut for the benefit of the participant farmers and created awareness through cultural programmes and also organized farmer, scientist and students interaction to clarify the field level problems in cultivation of various Horticultural crops at Abyudaya Karshaka Parishatt Hall, Mukkamala on 28.10.2017. Rythu Sadassu was presided over by Dr.G.Ramanandam, Principal Scientist, (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Ambajipeta. Dr.K.Uma Jyothi Associate Dean was the chief guest and R.V. Sujatha, Assistant Professor, (Agricultural Economics) participated in the meeting. Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento.) and Smt. E. Padma, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Ambajipeta also participated in Rytu Sadassu.

RHWEP students of CoH, Anantharajupeta conducted exhibition stall on different models on kitchen gardening, vermicompost, Zero energy storage, solar power generation, mulching, protective cultivation, plant protection aspects with live specimens and charts on extension gaps at Nagavaram village. Farmers meeting was also organizeda and presided over by Dr. M. Ramakrishna, Associate Dean, CoH, Anantharajupeta. Associate Dean Representative Dr. Y. Deepthi Kiran, Asst.Prof (Agro), Dr.M. Ramaiah, Associate Professor (Ento), Dr.K.Nagaraju, Sr. Scientist & Head (Hort.), Dr. Y. Sharath Kumar Reddy, Scientist incharge, HRS, Anantharajupeta have participated in the programmes on 24.10.2017. Nagavarm sarpanch, Srinivasulu Reddy and other host farmers were participated in the programme.

ELP Dr. K. Swarajya Lakshmi, Associate Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharaju- peta has taken ELP Students and PG PHT students to acidlime processing unit located near Obulavaripalli on 28.10.2017 on an exposure visit.

Students of ELP on Commercial Horticulture produced seedlings of watermelon and pumpkin on commercial scale at Centre of Excellence, Venkataramannagudem on request of the farmers under the guidance of Dr.Vinay Kumar Reddy, Asst Prof. (Hort.), CoH, Venkataramannagudem.

New Hostels On 25.10.17, a newly constructed extension block in boys hostel, Venkataramanngudem was inaugurated by Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Students Affairs, Dr YSRHU. Dr. K.Uma Jyothi, Associate Dean, College of Horticulture, Venkataramannagudem, Dr.M.Rajasekhar, Prof.(Hort), Sri Ch.Chinnabbai (Warden-Boys hostel), Dr.C.P.Viji (Warden-Girls hostel) and students participated in this programme.

The extension building of Girls’ Hostel, College of Horticulture, Venkatara- mannagudem was inaugurated by Dr.K.Uma Jyothi, Associate Dean on 30.10.17. Dr. M. Rajasekhar, Prof (Hort.), Dr.C.P.Viji, Warden of Girls’ Hostel, staff members and students attended the programme.

Exposure Visits

Dr. M. Ramaiah, Associate Professor (Ento.), Dr. Y. Sireesha, Assistant Professor (Pl.Path), College of Horticulture, Anantharajupeta has taken UG third year students to Madanapalli and surrounding villages for showing tomato crop as a part of students exposure visit on 25.10.2017.

Dr. M. Raja Naik, Assistant Professor (Hort.), College of Horticulture, Anantharajupeta took the PG & Ph.D students from Dept. of Floricul- ture and Landscape Architecture on 26.10.2017 to Tirupati, towards an exposure visit and showed multiple flower mandies, pulsing solution, bouquet and dry flower preparation works at different firms. Students gor exposed to various loose and cut flowers along with market intelligence.

Dr. M. Raja Naik, Assistant Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupeta took the final year B.Sc students from Sri. Venkateshwara Arts College, Tirupati on 25.10.2017, on an exposure visit to College of Horticulture farm, Anantharajupeta. Showed different ornamental plants available along with their economic importance for landscaping including beautification of educational institutions and national highways. Extension Training Programmes

On 16.10.2017, Miss N.Srividya Rani, Scientist (Extn.) and Sri K.C.Bhanu Murthy, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted off campus training programme on “Awareness on Personal Health and Hygiene of Farm Women” and “Cultivation of Vine Vegetables” at Chilakamamidi village of Rampachodavaram mandal and explained about safe usage of water, care to be taken while farming, sanitation measures to be followed in their day to day activities, importance and production aspects of vine vegetables i.e bitter gourd, bottle gourd, ridge gourds and coccinia etc.,. On 24.10.2017, KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted an on-campus training programme on “INM in Horticultural Crops”. Sri P Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS & AC), KVK, Pandirimamidi explained the farmers about integrated use of chemical and organic fertilizers in vegetable crops and cashew orchards for higher yields and sustainable soil health. Miss. S.Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.) explained about various organic methods to control pest and diseases in cashew as it is a predominant crop in the agency area. About 18 tribal farmers of D.N.Palem village of Devipatnam mandal were attended.

Dr.P.Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl.Path) & Head, HRS, Venkataramannagudem organized two farmers training programme on “Medicinal Plants Cultiva- tion” at Chintapalli on 26.10.2017.

Smt. D. Aparna, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Venkataramannagudem participated in one day farmers training programme as resource person on “Flower crops Cultivation” at Chandrupalem village, Mylavaram mandal, Krishna district on 28.10.2017 organized by Regional Horticultural Training Institute, Gopannapalem.

Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (PP) & Head, HRS, Mahanandi attended the farmers interac- tion meeting at village Mahadevapuram organized during the NSS special camp for Final year B.Sc. (Agri.) students of Agricultural College, Mahanandi on 27.10.2017.

Dr.G.Ramanandam, Principal Scientist (Hort.) and Smt. E. Padma, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Ambajipeta participated in “Cocoa training programme” where in inputs were distributed to cocoa farmers organized by Dept. of Horticulture on 20.10.2017 and delivered a lecture on “Pruning and fertilizer management in cocoa”.

On 27.10.2017, Sri G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist, (Pl. Path.), KVK, Vonipenta conducted off campus training programme on “Pest and disease management in turmeric” at Sunkulu Gari Palli village of Mydukur mandal and addressed the farmers on symptoms of pests, diseases and management practices to be followed.

Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (PP) & Head, HRS, Mahanandi attended a training programme on “Cultivation of turmeric” at villages Krishnanagar and Banakacharlla of Pamulapadu mandal organized by Dept. of Horticulture on 28.10.2017.

On 25.10.2017, Dr.V.Deepthi, Scientist (Agri Extn.), KVK, Venkata- ramannagudem organized one day training cum exposure visit to the horticultural farmers of Krishna district to equip with latest technologies in horticultural sector. In this programme a total of 40 farmers have participated. Dr. K.Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.) has explained the seasonal operations in mango, grafting technique in cashew and Dr.T.Vijaya Nirmala (Veterinary Science) has explained the azolla and vermicompost production aspects.

Dr.K.Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur attended training programme on “Banana and loose flower crops cultivation” as resource person at Davuluripalem village of mandal and Revendrapadu village of mandal on 17.10.2017 organized by Department of Horticulture, Guntur.

Dr.K.Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur attended training programme on “Loose flower cultivation” as resource person at Vedul- lapalli village, mandal on 18.10.2017 organized by Department of Horticulture, Guntur.

Dr. B.V.K. Bhagawan, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head and Dr.A.Snehalatha Rani. Scientist (Pl. Path.), HRS, Kovvur participated in the farmers training programme as resource persons at Mortha of West Godavari district and Ravulapalem of East Godavari district respectively on 28.10.2017 and discussed about the cultivation practices in banana.

Dr. M. Rama Krishna, Associate Dean, College of Horticulture, Anantha- rajupeta participated in a training programme to the farmers on “Tamalapaku thota pi sikhshana mariyu avagahana” at Obulavaripalli, organized by Department of Horticulture on 23.10.2017.

Vocational Training Programmes

From 23.10.2017 to 28.10.2017, Vocational training programme on Rubber tapping, processing and management practices was conducted at KrishiVigyan Kendra, Pandirimamidi in collaboration with ITDA, Rampachodavaram and Central Rubber Board, Rampachodavaram. Technical sessions were taken up by Sri.P.Jagan Mohan Reddy, ADO, CRB, Sri.P.VeerabhadraRao, APO-ITDA-Rubber, Salmon Raju, Farm Manager, Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist& Head, K.C.Bhanu Murthy and SrividyaRani.N, Scientists from KVK, Pandirimamidi. The method of tapping and processing of rubber was explained to the trainees at Devarapalli village. Valedictory session was conducted on 28.10.2017. Sri.A.S.Dinesh Kumar, IAS, PO, ITDA attended as chief guest, interacted with the trainees and gave assurance regarding establishment of rubber processing and smoking unit. Evaluation test was conducted and certificates were distributed to the trainees. Forty two farmers were participated in the programme.

On 27.10.2017, Miss. N.SrividyaRani, Scientist (Extn.), KVK, Pandirimamidi, gave a lecture on “Participatory Rural Appraisal techniques and Extension Communication skills” to Extension Functionaries (MPEO’s) of Korukonda division. Discussed the topics on various PRA techniques used in Agriculture such as village map, resource map, time line, trend analysis, venn diagram, wealth ranking, pair wise ranking which can be useful in their agriculture and village activities and for adoption of the village. Extension Communication skills such as Method demonstrations, Group discussion, Opinion Leadership and Diffusion and communi- cation skills were explained to MPEO’s. Method Demonstration

On 26.10.2017 and 27.10.2017, Dr. A.Srinivas Sr.Scientist & Head and S. Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Pandirimamidi demonstrated use of pheramone traps for the control of brinjal fruit and shoot borer and sticky traps for the control of white fly and jassid infestation. Distrib- uted pheromone traps, lures and sticky traps to beneficiaries.

Y. Chandra sekhar, Research Associate (Pl. Path) Visited Choppavari- palli village and demonstrated the pseudostem injection (2% mono- chrotophous and 2% mancozeb) for the control of stem weevil as well as panama wilt in banana along with RHWEP Students in farmer’s field on 28.10.2017.

On 20.10.2017 Dr.V.Deepthi, Scientist (Agri Extn.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited the turmeric field and conducted method demonstration on fortification of Trichoderma viride and its usage against rhizome rot disease.

On 21.10.2017, Dr. T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science), KVK, Venkataramannagudem distributed 5050 nos. poultry egg capacity automatic digitally controlled setter cum hatcher along with essential spare kits such as egg setting trays, hatcher trays to Girimahila poultry sangam group under ICAR-TSP project entitled “Livelihood improvement of tribal women through backyard poultry rearing”.

Diagnostic Visits On 16.10.2017, Miss. S.Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited cotton and blackgram fields affected by rains in I.Polavaram village. Observed leaf hopper infestation in cotton fields and suggested to spray imidacloprid 0.25ml/l or methyldemeton 2ml/l. Crop loss was observed due to complete submergence of field and severe incidence of anthracnose and yellow mosaic virus disease in blackgram.

On 21.10.2017, Miss. S.Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited chilli fields infested with thrips and mites. Recommended applica- tion of phorate 10G granules @ 4 kgs/acre or dicofol @ 5ml/l

On 21.10.2017, Sri.P.Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited Korra var. Suryanandi fields at D.N.Palem village and suggested farmers to take up harvesting in 15 days. Korra was sown as an intercrop in maize and redgram fields.

Dr. B. Ramesh Babu, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Venkataramannagudem inspected nursery at Kapavaram village, Peravali mandal and Nadipalli village, Pedavegi mandal on 21.10.2017 and 22.10.2017 respectively.

On 27.10.2017, Dr. A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head and S. Adar- sha, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited brinjal fields and observed brinjal fruit and shoot borer and brinjal leaf webber damage. As the brinjal leaf webber infestation was in sporadic nature (5 infested plants per ½ acre plot), collection and destruction of infested, webbed shoots was recommended for avoiding further spread.

Dr. M. Tagore Naik scientist (Hort.), HRS, Mahanandi visited turmeric and onion fields at Mahadevapuram village along with RHWEP students and observed various pests and disease incidence and suggested suitable management practices.

Dr. R. Nagaraju, Senior Scientist (Hort.) & Head, and Smt. T. Nagalak- shmi, Scientist (Pl. Path), HRS, Anantharajupeta conducted field visit in Choppavari palli village of Chitvel mandal, Kadapa district on 24/10/2017 along with RHWEP students and farmers in banana and observed severe incidence of Panama wilt and Psedostem weevil damage. Suggested suitable remedial measures and also explained fertigation schedule to banana.

On 20.10.2017 Sri G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), KVK, Vonipenta has visited tomato fields for diagnosis of pest and disease incidence at Mudireddy Palli Thanda village of Mydukur mandal and observed leaf curl virus disease. Recommended the removal and destruction of infested plants followed by spraying of imidacloprid @ 0.03% or fipronil @ 0.2% or thiamethoxam @ 0.02%.

On 27.10.2017 Sri G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), KVK, Vonipenta has visited chillies and onion fields for diagnosis of pest and disease incidence at Sunkula Gari Palli village of Mydukur mandal. During the visit scientist observed die back disease in chillies and onion leaf spot. Recommended spraying of propiconazole @ 0.1% or difenoconazole @ 0.05% for die back disease and chlorothalonil @ 0.25% for onion leaf spot disease.

,On 31.10.2017, Dr. E. Karunasree, Senior Scientist & Head and Dr. T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science) and Dr. A. Devivara- prasad Reddy, Scientist (Fishery Science), KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited flock of aseel chicks at Venkataramannagudem and suggested chick management practices to the farmer and also made another diagnostic field visit to adult aseel birds and examined the infected bird with swollen eyes, face, purulent ocular and nasal discharges, loss in body weight and tentatively identified the condition as Infectious Coryza infection and suggested tyloton@110 mg/kg body weight, oxymycin @ 1g/l of water, alvite- M@250g/100 kg of feed.

Dr. K.Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur visited jasmine, crossandra and cut green cultivated fields at Vedullapalli village, on 18.10.2017 and recommended the fertilizer and irrigation management schedule for getting higher flower yield. Also diagnosed the pest and disease problems in flower crops and suggested the measures to be taken up to manage the pest.

Dr.K.Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort.) visited banana, turmeric, tube rose and chrysanthemum fields at Davuluripalem village of Kollipara- mandal and Revendrapadu village of on 17.10.2017 and suggested the necessary measures to be taken up to get higher quality produce. CFLD On 24.10.2017 and 25.10.2017, Dr. A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head, S. Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.), Sri N.Vidya Rani, Scientist (Agri Extn.) and Sri.P.Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandirimamidi distributed plant protection chemicals to CFLD blackgram beneficiaries of D.N.Palem and Tamarapalli villages.

On 24.10.2017 Sri.G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl Path.), Krishi Vigan Kendra, Vonipenta has visited tomato fields for followup and provided yellow sticky traps for management of viral diseases. Scientist demon- strated and explained about the importance of yellow sticky traps to the farmers in T. Kothapalli village of Mydukur mandal under FLD “Management of Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV) in Tomato”. Tribal Sub Plan

on 18.10.2017, Sri. K. Anand Rao, PHO, ITDA, KR Puram, has distributed the drag nets to the tribal farmers of Buttaihgudem and Polavaram mandal under the ICAR-TSP Project on ‘Development of integrated fisheries cum horticulture/poultry for livelihood of tribal folks’. In this program, Dr. A. Devivaraprasad Reddy, Co-PI and Scientist (Fishery Science) and Dr. T. Vijaya Nirmala, Co-PI and Scientist (Veterinary Science), KVK, Venkataramannagudem has participated. General Meetings

Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of Extension, Dr. A. Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head, KVK, Pandirimamidi attended group meeting cum training programme on “CFLDs-Oilseeds & Pulses under NMOOP and NFSM” held from 16.10.2017 and 17.10.2017 at IIOR, Hyderabad. Sri G. ShaliRaju, Scientist (Ento.) and Sri P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandirimamidi presented the progress report and rabi action plan of CFLDs on pulses and oilseeds.

Vigilance Awareness Week

On 30.10.2017, Integrity Pledge was taken at KVK, Pandirimamidi and KVK, Venkata- ramannagudem on the occasion of Vigilance awareness week from 30th October 2017 to 4th November 2017. The pledge was taken by KVK staff under the KVK, Pandirimamidi KVK, V.R.Gudem concept “My Vision-Corruption Free ”.

Guest Lectures

Guest lectures were delivered by Dr.T.Yellamandara Reddy, Retired Dean of Agriculture, ANGRAU on 24.10.2017 and 25.10.2017 and Dr V.Rama Subbarao, Retired Associate Dean, CFSc & Tech, Bapatla on 25.10.2017 and 26.10.2017 at College of Horticulture, Venkataraman- nagudem.

Visits

Smt.N.Sreekala, Comptroller along with Deputy Comptroller and Asst. Comptroller (Claims & Audit) visited Horticultural Research Station , Kovvur to verify and review the replies prepared for dropping of pending audit objections on 25.10.2017. On 23.10.2017, Dr.M.L.N.Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, Dr.K.UmaJyothi, Associate Dean, and Dr.P.SeshaKiran, Assistant Professor, CoH, Venkataramannagudem visited allotted villages of RHWEP students under KVK, Pandirimamidi. Visited host farmers’ fields i.e. brinjal, beans and bhendi in Irlapalli, Deva- ram, Indukurupeta villages and observed fruit and shoot borer, white flies in Brinjal and suggested suitable control measures. RHWEP students organized method demonstrations regarding azolla unit, installation of pheromone traps and sticky traps in brinjal fields to monitor and to control shoot and fruit borer and white flies. In this programme Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head, S.Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.), N.Srividya Rani, Scientist (Extn.), Sri.K.C.Bhanu Murthy, Scientist (Hort.) from KVK, Pandirimamidi have attended.

Dr. P. Ravindra Babu, Hon’ble M.P., Amalapuram and Sri P. Narayana Murthy, M.L.A, P.Gannavaram visited Horticultural Research Station, Ambajipeta and interacted with the scientists on ongoing research activities on 21.10.2017 and addressed the RHWEP students and advised the students to contribute to the nations development.

Students of final year B.Sc (Botany) from S.V. Arts college, Tirupathi visited HRS, Anantharjupeta. Dr. R. Nagaraju, Sr.Scientist (Hort.) & Head explained about the history of the research station and also technical programme of work . Sri D. Sreedhar, Scientist (Hort.) and Smt. T. Nagalakshmi, Scientist (Pl. Path.) , Y. Sharat Kumar Reddy, Scientist (Pl.Phy) and Y. Chandra Sekhar, Research Associate (Pl. Path.) explained the students regarding the ongoing research projects. Sri. N. Jayaprakash Narayana, President of Loksatta party visited the Dr.Y.S.R.Horticultural Univeristy campus on 16.10.2017 and interacted with staff and students of CoH, Venkataramannagudem and motivated to excel in work for the country and highlighted the importance of Horticul- tural crops on Indian economic status.

Dr. K.Kareemulla, and Dr.S.Ravichandran, Principal Scientists, NAARM visited College of Horticulture and interacted with students and staff members on 26.10.2017. Later visited KVK, PHTRS, Venkataramanna- gudem.

Field visit was organized to IInd year Diploma students from Agricul- tural Polytechnic College, Maruteru on 26.10.2017. Dr.T.Suseela, Asst Prof. (Hort.) explained the cultivation of flower crops, Dr. A.Harshavardhan, Asst Prof. (Hort.) explained the fruit crops cultivation and Dr.G.Kranthi Rekha, Asst Prof. (Hort.) explained the vegetable crops cultivation at CoH, Venkataramannagudem and Dr. K.VenkataSubbaiah, Scientist(Hort) and Dr.T.Vijaya Nirmala, scientist (Veterinary Science), KVK, Venkataramannagudem explained the KVK activities and demonstration units of KVK farm.
