C. The Purpose and the Concept of the Symposium As it is known, Islamic Civilization, based on the belief in Tawheed (Tawhid), was born and spread in a region where many civilization sexisted. As a matter of fact, the geography where the Egyptian, Greek and Sassanian civilizations live is the field where the Islamic civilization spreads. Muslims have turned their works into Arabic by recognizing the historical figures of the seancient civilizations, and they have renewed the mand made them into Islamic civilization. At the same time, Muslims have made Marks on these works. From the 12th tothe 14th century, it is seen that both the most civilized and advanced countries of Europe and Asia was the societies of the Islamic Civilizations. It is known that cities developed from rich and culturally developed cities thanks to science and literature, arts and trade developed from Iraq to Andalus, Turkestanto Anatolia. These cities have become a center of intense scientific and cultural life and attracted scholars and artisans who have grown up allover in the world. According to Islamic historians and geographers, Urfa, which is one of the first settlement centers established on earth after the flood of Noah, also maintain edits importance as an important city in the history of Islamic civilization. During the reign of Hazrat Omer, the city was conquered by Iyaz b. Ganm (18/639). Urfa became a province along with Harran and in the time of Umayyads “Omayyads” (67 / 686-87). During the Abbasids, Hârûnürreşîds came to Urfa sometimes and stayed in the city for a while. Also, The Byzantines came to Urfa in 348 (959). 361 (In October-November 971) The Byzantine army entered Urfa, and the city plunder and destroy it by Byzantine. The Seljuks appointed Sultan Meliksah Emîr Bozan with the conquest of Urfa and the city was conquered after a severe

1 encirclement for three months (Zilhicce 479 / March 1087). Melikşah appointed Emir Bozan as governor of Urfa and Harran. Urfa, together with the Seljuk domination, the peace and tranquility that has been waiting for many years has been reconciled. The Seljuks also defended there gionand Urfa against the Crusades. On 10 March 1098, Baudouin de Boulogne was a dominated and founded the Urfa Crusader Count. Imadduddin Zengi, who ruled in Mosul and in a suitable environment that occurreddue to the hate of the Crusaders in Urfa and (Antakya), Imadduddin Zengi came to Urfa, and had opportunity after leave of The Crusader Earl II. Joscelin and entered the city after four weeks of encirclement (26 Jamahidahir 539/24 December 1144).This conquest was the main cause of the II.Crusade.After Nureddin Zengiconquered Urfa in 1144, he ordered to be built Urfa Ulu cami mosque, especially in the city mosques, masjid and madrasah. During the reign of Sultan Yavuz Selim, Urfa participated in the Ottoman landscapes (1516) and was given to Pîr Bey's administration. Urfa was connected to the provinces of Diyarbekir, Rakka and Aleppo in 1867 respectively during the Ottoman period. Urfa, when it was connected to the province of Rakka, earned the status of "Pashaensign". Urfa was occupied by the British in March 1919 and by the French after about seven months of British occupation. On February 7, 1920, the people rebelled against the occupation forces.As a result of the collisions, on April 10, 1920, they agreed to vacate(from France)Urfa with the French treaty and the city was a band oned the next day.Urfa became the city center during the Republic anera. June 12, 1984, by the Grand National Assembly of Urfa was a warded the title Şanlı "Glorious" socity name became Şanlıurfa. March 2016 "I. Şanlıurfa Symposium in International Islamic History and Civilization:It was realized with the headings of Urfa in Ottoman Document and Resources."III. Şanlıurfa Symposium in the History and Civilization of International Islam: Urfa in the Period of Transition from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic and in the National Struggle "will be held on 30-31 March / 1 April 2018. The purpose of the symposium is to determine the place and role of Urfa in the transition period from the Ottoman to the Republic and in the National Struggle and to contribute to the development of Urfa by shedding light on the religious, cultural, economic and social history of Urfa in those periods. Another goal is to encourage and support scholars and science working on Urfa. It is also about making extensive scientific literature about the city.
