Conejo Valley, CA Brochure 11X8.Pub An Invitation to Apply for the Position of Superintendent Thousand Oaks, California TheThe PositionPosition The Conejo Valley Unified School District, Thousand Oaks, California, Board of Trustees is seeking a highly qualified and fully certified superintendent of schools. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position July 1, 2015. McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development, in collaboration with the California School Boards Association, has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the board of trustees in identifying and screening the candidates. The Qualifications The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. The board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. The board has identified the following desired characteristics: A person who – Is knowledgeable in California School Finance and California School Law and has strong skills in the areas of budgeting, financial planning and management. Is an effective decision maker who believes in empowering others to act while keeping the organization focused on the future. Demonstrates an ability to work with a diverse, suburban community that is actively engaged in their schools and expects an open door policy that is welcoming of diverse perspectives. Inspires others to quality performance, instilling trust and confidence within the entire organization. Is an open-minded listener who communicates effectively, through written and spoken word, both to the greater community and to the district. TheThe CommunityCommunity The Conejo Valley Unified School District is part of a vibrant community offering a wide range of youth and adult activities. Located in Ventura County, it is ideally situated among rolling hills just 35 miles northwest of Los Angeles, and 15 miles east of the Malibu coastline and features more than 15,000 acres of public open space. Conejo Valley Unified School District serves the City of Thousand Oaks including Thousand Oaks proper, Newbury Park, and Westlake Village plus additional unincorporated areas. U.S. News & World Report consistently names Thousand Oaks one of the safest cities of its size in the United States. Kiplinger magazine named it one of the top five communities in the nation to raise a family. With a population of 132,000, there are many employment and cultural opportunities all located within a highly desirable, suburban community. In addition to the K-12 program the 930 Certified Teachers CVUSD offers preschool, elementary child care, 900 Classified Personnel transitional kindergarten and Adult Education. Schools 17 Elementary K-5 Conejo Valley Unified School District focuses on 1 K-8 offering students world class academic programs, 4 Middle Schools and a wide variety of engaging activities and athletic 3 Comprehensive High Schools programs in physically and emotionally safe schools. 2 Alternative High Schools 1 Adult School Facility The 2013-2014 District API was 884, with 25 of 26 Special Programs for schools exceeding an 800 API. District schools have Accelerated Students received a total of seven Federal Blue Ribbon GATE awards, and 25 State Distinguished School awards, Honors and Advanced Placement with five schools recognized in 2014. The board's primary focus is on setting goals, establishing policy and providing prudent fiscal oversight. In the final process, the school board may visit the district where the candidate is employed, but will not proceed without the knowledge and consent of the candidate. Step into the parlour of the Stagecoach Inn, where costumed docents will lead you on a guided tour and entertan you with tales of history and legend. Rooms at the Inn are decorated with antique furnishings and display all the awesome knick knacks that Victorians loved. The elegant dining room is set for dinner and the Innkeepers’ rooms upstairs are fitted out just as they would have been in 1876. Many items were donated by the families of original Conejo Valley pioneers. The Stagecoach Inn is owned by the Conejo Recreation and Park District and it is operated through a partnership with the Conejo Valley Historical Society. The original structure was built in 1876 but was destroyed by fire in the early 1970s. The Inn, also known as the Grand Union Hotel, is a Monterey style structure of northern California redwood with a wrap-around porch and balcony. The original structure served as a school, post office, steak house, church, gift shop, and movie set. Situated on four acres containing a 200 year old sycamore tree, the site has recreations of a carriage house, 3-room pioneer house, blacksmith shop, working windmill, Timber School, Spanish adobe, outdoor beehive oven, and Chumash Indian bulrush hut.
