Centre for Appropriate Technology (CfAT): CfAT is a non-profit, non-government science and technology organisation governed by an Abo- riginal Board. CfAT’s Head Office is in Alice Springs with regional offices in Cairns QLD and Dar- win NT.

Enterprise Team The CfAT Ltd Enterprise Team was primarily set up to provide on-going employment and skills- development opportunities for local Aboriginal people. The Enterprise team consists of the Enter- prise workshop and the Facilities Maintenance team. The Enterprise Team’s objective is to create employment opportunities from for-profit activities. The Enterprise Workshop is a training and production facility, fabricating infrastructure for CfAT Ltd’s technology products which include:  A range of bush hardy products and furniture;  The mobile hotspots; and  Steel work for remote construction projects.

About the Role

The Boilermaker/ Fabricator assists with the day to day operations of a small/medium fabrication enterprise. He/she will be responsible for undertaking a range of projects as directed by the Workshop Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND JUDGEMENT

The position works under routine supervision/general direction.

Sound judgement is required to assess how to perform tasks and duties assigned.

The work involves some complexity in tasks and diagnostic skills are required to assess the best approach to a given task.

WORKING CONDITIONS This position is based in the CfAT Enterprise workshop facilities at the Desert Peoples Centre, Desert Knowledge Precinct Alice Springs.

Heavy lifting is required in the course of daily work load.

The position will include the use of a range of machinery, hand and power tools including but not limited to, mechanical lifters and forklift.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

 Employment is Fulltime fixed term contract.  Working hours 37.5 hours a week within the hours of 7am to 5pm Monday to Thursday. Annual leave entitlement is 5 weeks per annum.  Employer-funded superannuation is paid in accordance with legislation.  Option to participate in the CfAT Salary Sacrifice Scheme which provides access to remote area exempt benefits and other tax benefits due to CfAT’s status as a Public Benevolent Institution (PBI).

QUALIFICATIONS

 Working towards a trade qualification relevant to metal fabrication  And/or equivalent on the job experience and expertise over several years

SKILLS-ESSENTIAL

 Demonstrated basic skills in in apprentice Boilermaker/Welder.  Demonstrated experience and/or willingness in supporting a wide range of , maintenance services.  Awareness of WHS regulations and procedures.  Adaptable to new situations and have a positive attitude towards change.  Commitment to skills development skills development and learning.  Good communication skills.  Good production documentation skills, including computer use.  Reliability and good time management skills.  Forklift licence  C Class Licence SKILLS– DESIRABLE
