SVIM STRATEGY FOR SUSTAINABLE ENERGY

• Qualification of local communities and their private sector representatives for sustainable energy planning

• Support in collecting data useful for the elaboration of sustainable energy policies and plans

• Support in climate adaptation and qualification of productive process of SMEs

TO FACILITATE THE SHIFT TOWARDS LOW-CARBON ECONOMY THE SEC PROCESS TOWARDS LIFE SEC ADAPT PROJECT (1)

SVIM, as Regional Development Agency, promoted several project aiming at strengthening the competitiveness and sustainable growth , raising awareness of Local Communities on the importance of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability in all economic and social sectors, such as:

-Effect project (SEE Programme), which aimed to support the qualification of competences of public officers for the integration of public tenders procedures with energy efficient criteria; - Radar (IEE Programme),raising awarenes on renwable energy developping agro-energetic chain models (IEE); - Powered (IPA Programme), aims to define shared methods for the development of the off- shore wind energy in the Adriatic area; - Alterenergy (IPA Programme), promoting energy sustainability in the small communities of the Adriatic area through replicable models for the sustainable management of energy resources;

THE SEC PROCESS TOWARDS LIFE SEC ADAPT PROJECT (2)

In occasion of the implementation of CITY_SEC project, funded by the IEE Programme in 2010, local Municipalities from 6 EU Countries joint the Covenant of Mayors Initiative,

SVIM, as coordinator, supported local communities, policy makers and civil society on sustainable energy issues through training and Information activities, that paved the ground the submission of the Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAP).

Following the extreme weather events that affected Marche and Istrian areas, Svim and Sec municipalities submitted Life SEC Adapt proposal, that aims at supporting efforts leading to increased resilience to climate change, by assisting local municipalities in the adoption of local adaptation strategies and plans.

Marche Region - IT PROJECT OBJECTIVES (1) MAIN OBJECTIVES • to contribute to increase the climate resilience capacity and facilitate the shift towards low-carbon and resource-efficient economies of the European urban areas;

• to enable local authorities to adapt to climate change through the adhesion and active participation to Mayor Adapt initiative mainstreaming and integrating climatic objectives into local policies and practice;

• to adopt and upgrade the model of the Sustainable Energy Communities (SEC) in supporting the improvement of climate governance, as a best practice for the development of virtuous climate change adaptation process in local authorities under the coordination of regional authorities and development agencies at regional level; PROJECT OBJECTIVES (2) SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

- Increase awareness of local and regional decision makers on the importance to adopt climate change adaptation strategies to limit or avoid further natural, social and economic costs, by developing a capacity building process throughout the project;

- Contribute to reduce the knowledge gap of local and regional administrators on vulnerabilities and risks of the territories, thus allowing the development of effective climate change adaptation strategies and plans;

- Sign and adopt climate change adaptation strategies and plans by the 17 municipalities beneficiaries in the framework of the “Mayor Adapt” initiative, through the integration of existing sustainable energy plans (SEAPs);

- Setting up and testing of the Energy and Climate Monitoring System (SEC_Adapt monitoring tool) to constantly verify the progress of mitigation and adaptation actions and reorient the climate and energy strategy objectives by the municipalities involved;

- Facilitate the adoption of climate adaptation and mitigation policies and actions at cross-border level drawing a joint policy recommendation paper for a territorial-coherent implementation of the climate and energy strategies. Thank you for the attention
