With each passing year, I am more grateful for the faithful men and women who make donations to the Catholic Foundation or who make arrangements in their estate plans to leave behind gifts that will continue to make a difference in the lives of others. These gifts, whether large or small, are a devoted response to the blessings the Lord has bestowed.

I extend my gratitude to the Catholic Foundation Board of Directors as they lead our efforts. This group of individuals offers joyful service, guidance, and prayerful reflection to the matters at hand.

How to establish an endowment fund – and how much? Any individual or family may establish a Family Endowment Fund. An initial donation of $10,000 is required to establish the Family Endowment Fund and after that, the donors, immediate family members and extended family members can donate any amount they would like, and whenever they would like. A favorite option for many people is to donate on certain people’s birthdates, wedding anniversaries or on the anniversary of a loved one’s passing. The donor may name the Family Endowment Fund however they would like, such as the Joseph and Mary Jones Family Endowment Fund. The donor will also select which Catholic related entities they would like to receive the annual distributions, such as their parish, a Catholic school, or a ministry of the Diocese of Bismarck. What are the methods of giving? In addition, individuals may receive a state tax credit for a contribution of $5,000 or more (lump sum or aggregate in one year). The tax credit is 40% of the charitable deduction allowed by the IRS up to a maximum credit of $10,000 per year per taxpayer or $20,000 per year per couple filing jointly. The credit may be carried forward for three additional tax years if it cannot all be used in one year. Please contact the Catholic Foundation for more information about this wonderful 40% ND tax credit.

Frank & Jeannette Redlin (In Honor of Pat Shea) Jeannette Redlin 14 An Example of a Family Endowment Fund: Family of Faith puts Words into Action

While raising a family, Arnold and Tillie Lindemann always talked to their four children about the importance of their faith. Going to Mass, devotions and weekly Adoration, attending Catholic schools, praying before meals and other times and volunteering in their parish and community were all very important parts of living that faith. Sprinkled in between were lively conversations of every aspect of their Catholic faith. Praying for and financially supporting vocations came naturally. All through married life, whenever an opportunity came to support religious vocations, they didn’t just talk about it, they put their words into action and financially supported it. They discovered the costs for training and educating seminarians first-hand when their son Gene was a seminarian (and eventually was ordained a priest for the Diocese). Through the years they were involved in many efforts to assist the Diocese and our seminarians financially with the costs. Arnold passed away in 1997 and, to Tillie, nothing was going to change the manner in which she practiced her “It was so easy to set up,” said Tillie. “And now, Catholic faith - attending Mass, praying, supporting whenever I want to make donations to add it, that too, Catholic schools, engaging in lively conversations with is so simple.” Tillie enjoys making additional donations her children and grandchildren, and, of course, still in honor of special celebrations like family birthdays praying for and supporting vocations. and anniversaries, but also remembers deceased family and friends with donations to the fund. “I love the idea When Tillie learned she could establish a special that our children and grandchildren can also donate to Family Endowment Fund with the Catholic Foundation it, if they want to,” added Tillie. and select Seminarian Scholarships as the annual beneficiary, she immediately put her words and deeds Tillie concluding by saying that she’s grateful to have into action. In memory of her husband and in honor found a way for a treasured tradition to leave a lasting of her family, she set up the Arnold E. and Tillie legacy through a Family Endowment Fund with the Lindemann Family Endowment Fund. Catholic Foundation.

Dear Catholic Foundation donors, Please allow me to extend a heartfelt word of gratitude to you for supporting me as a seminarian and all the other seminarians here in the Diocese of Bismarck. I know that you have been offering prayers and financial support for vocations in our diocese for many years; thanks for all that you do. Seminary is an extremely blessed time. The Church gives us a huge gift when it says, “Your job during the seminarian formation years is simply to pray, grow closer to God and study Him in philosophy and theology.” Who gets to do that!? I know that the seminary is not a free service, though, and that it’s possible because of the generous support of people like you. Having experienced the seminary, I can honestly say that when seminary formation is done right it is incredibly fruitful. I am so grateful for my time in seminary formation. Thanks be to God, and to you for your generous support, I was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Bismarck on June 10, 2019. I look forward to bringing Jesus through prayer, love and the Sacraments to the parishioners in western North Dakota for the rest of my life. Thank you for helping to make that possible. In Christ,

Please be as generous as you can! Charitable Gift Annuities The Diocese of Bismarck is proud to administer and guarantee payment to all annuitants while benefitting the Catholic ministry of the donor’s choice, as can be seen by the beneficiary list below. A charitable gift annuity (CGA) is an income producing gift which helps the giver and the Church at the same time. The immediate benefit is that the donor receives a tax deduction, and the gift qualifies for the 40% ND State Tax Credit. Long-term, the donor has guaranteed income for life and usually more than would be had in a typical bank investment such as a Certificate of Deposit. And when the annuity matures, the remainder is gifted to support the Catholic mission of your choice. For more information about planning your Legacy Gift, please contact Ron Schatz at 701-204-7202 or [email protected].
