An eventful decade of SAI International School

Students of Class VI visited the Tribal Research Institute Museum on Thursday, November 1, 2018 as part of their educational trip. They had a wonderful time exploring the arts and artefacts of the various tribes of the state.

Students had a glimpse into the way of living of the tribal people, their style of dressing, the weapons and agricultural equipment’s etc. For the young students it was a new experience of getting to know about people residing in their own state but having an altogether different style of living.

The State has 62 distinct tribes, the largest number in the Country. Officially known as “tribals” or “adibasi” they constitute 24 percent of the total population of the state and 9.7% of the nation’s total tribal population.

Established in the year 1953 and renovated in 2001, the museum is home to a rich collection of artefacts, crafts and art objects belonging to different tribes living in several parts of Odisha. The Museum is an integrated part of the Scheduled Castles and Scheduled Tribes Research and Training Institute (SCSTRTI), which disseminates knowledge covering the human species in totality.

SAI Netritva

SAI Netritva Camp Begins

The two-day Annual Leadership Programme of SAI International School, the SAI Netritva Camp began on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. It commenced with 54 students of Class IX and X in the camp site, set amidst the sylvan surroundings of the Chandka

Forests. Class XI Boys

Students are ably guided and assisted by experts for the tenure over various areas which include leadership, soft skills training, communication skills through dramatics, social work and outdoor activities. To leverage the qualitative component of SAI Netritva, this year an hour-long Grooming Session and Pottery classes are being introduced, which will enable students to augment their confidence and refine their personality further.

The Leadership Programme aims to inculcate the qualities of a true leader within each student and make them aware and confident global learners. The two-day and one-night camp focusses on building and fortifying attributes and skills to help students emerge with improved communication and numerous other life skills. The specially designed location with its training facilities help each and every child to explore their innate talent.

SAI Netritva Camp: The enthusiastic girls of Class VIII, IX and X went for the SAI Netritva Camp on Wednesday, October 31, 2018. The fun-filled camp is an apt place to learn new skills, build confidence and other leadership qualities as well as make memories.

The 2-day SAI Netritva Camp for Class VII boys begins today. Eight Six enthusiastic students have started their camping activities in the camp site set amidst the sylvan surroundings of the Chandka Forests.

SAI Netritva Camp - Seventy-eight girls from Class XI went for the SAI Netritva Camp on Saturday, October 27, 2018. The students will have two whole days of fun-filled activities, indulging themselves in learning various new things like pottery, getting adventurous doing rappling, zip-line, freefall, Burma bridge etc and attending grooming classes to augment their confidence and other leadership skills

The SAI Netritva Camp resumed on Monday, October 22, 2018 after the

vacation. It started with 69 boys from Class VIII attending the camp. The 2-day camp is one of the most awaited event for the SAIoneers, who look forward to spent some fun-filled and adventurous time with their friends apart from honing their leadership skills. The 2-day fun filled activities culminated with a Valedictory Ceremony where the students were awarded with the Certificates.

SAI Scouts and Guides take part in Camporee 2018: Scouts and Guides students of SAI International School took part in the 28th District Camporee of Bharat Scouts and Guides held at Capital High School, Bhubaneswar from November 1 to 3, 2018. Camporee is a local or regional gathering of Scouting units for a period of camping and common activities. SAI students took part in various competitions, adventure activities, cultural programme, Peace March etc

SAI CELEBRATES GRAND PARENTS DAY

To honor the grandparents and help them create memories with their grandchildren, every year SAI International School celebrates the day with lots of joy and fervor. Grandparents actively get involved with various activities and thoroughly enjoy the special day dedicated to them.

On Saturday, October 6, 2018, the annual Grandparents Day was celebrated with loads of fun and festivity. Around 150 grandparents of students from Playgroup to Class III took part in the most awaiting celebration. The theme for the event was “Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahin”.

The grandparents were treated to a medley of melodious and meaningful songs by the tiny tots and a brilliantly choreographed dance basing on songs from old movies, which swept in a nostalgic air and enthused the grandma‟s and grandpas to sway with the music.

A fun-filled Just a Minute – Ball Game was conducted which saw enthusiastic participation from the high-spirited grandparents. The day ended with a ramp show displaying the intense bond of love between the grandparent and grandchild as they walked hand-in- hand on the stage.

On the occasion, Principal Shri Harish Sanduja said that, “Parents have aspirations from their children, so that they become judgmental, but grandparents don‟t have that, so they provide a completely fearless environment for the child, which is an ideal environment to grow.”

JOY OF GIVING CELEBR ATED AT SAI INTERNAT IONAL SCHOOL

The Joy of Giving Week is an event that is observed every year at SAI International School with a lot of enthusiasm, reflecting the spirit of empathy and generosity of the students, teachers and parents alike. This festival of philanthropy held from Oct 2 to 8 unites millions of people across the country in celebrating the joyous donation drive. This gives us an opportunity to reach out to less privileged people with our acts and words of kindness.

As part of the celebration of Joy of Giving Week or Daan Utsav, twenty students from the Going Global and Interact Club and three Teacher-Coordinators of SAI International School visited „Vriddhi‟, a vocational centre for Special Children on Thursday, October 4, 2018.

The inmates of Vriddhi are involved in soap making, which is a few months old Startup. To help them leverage their activity, students of SAI conducted a training session covering hygiene issues like use of latex gloves, hair nets, aprons etc. They also provided the organization with a Storage bucket, gloves, hairnets, aprons to help them maintain the hygiene level while making soaps. SAIoneers also learnt to make soaps, getting involved in the 5-step process of soap making, working hand in hand with the inmates of Vriddhi.

A small community library was also donated to the organisation under the 100 Library Project of SAI to help the new friends enhance their learning horizon. A story telling session was organised, songs were shared, and all the children sang and danced to their heart‟s content.

The preparation for the event started few weeks prior to the D-day. A selected group of students and teachers visited the organisation to understand their requirements and accordingly charted out the list of activities. Students deeply felt the need for maintaining the hygiene level of soap making and also saw the lack of storage space which motivated them to pool in money to donate a huge bucket and the other essentials. Students also felt the children at Vriddhi need to read and enjoy books, for which they suggested to install a library and accordingly an almirah and books catering to their needs were provided. Finally everyone was happy as the day came to a close.

WORKSHOP ON E-WASTE MANAGEMENT

India is among the five biggest producers of E-Waste in the world, generating about two million tonnes per annum annually as per the recent ASSOCHAM-NEC study. The current rate of e-waste generation in is 4.56 times greater than the annual e-waste processing capacity offered by the nation, which leads to improper and illegal dumping or disposal of the hazardous e-waste. It is a great emerging threat that can have an adverse impact on environment and people.

A workshop on Building an eco-system for effective management of e-waste in Bhubaneswar was conducted by Clean E-Bhubaneswar for the students of SAI International School on Wednesday, October 31, 2018.

The students were briefed on the effect of dumped electronic gadgets like Refrigerator, Washing machines, Computers and Printers, Televisions, Mobiles, Ipods etc., that spread toxins in the environment. The Resource persons Shri Aakash Kumar Singh and Shri Narsingh Panigrahy, Consultants of the Project, stressed on the importance of the 4-R like Reduce, Reuse, Repair and Recycle and promoted their campaign for collection and scientific disposal of e-waste. Students were also made aware of the law

CAREER GUIDANCE BY UNIVARIETY

A workshop on career guidance was conducted for the students of Class XI and XII by Univariety on October 29 and 30, 2018. Students from all the three streams attended the sessions. The Univariety career guidance expert Ms Stuti Verma interacted with the students and briefed them about various options that a student can select.

The upcoming career options in the field of Humanities, Engineering, Bio Sciences, Psychology, Sports, Art and Design were thoroughly discussed. Students also got to know about fascinating career options like Fashion Consultancy, Forensic Accounting, Sports Management, Forensic Psychology, Cyber Forensic, Ethical Hacking, Mechatronics, Industrial Design etc.

Ms. Verma emphasised on the skills required for each career and suggested the students to focus on career planning as per their skill set. Students also got a snapshot of the premier colleges of India and USA.

SAI International School believes in bringing about a meaningful change in the lives of its students by constantly guiding them to pursue the right path. Through proper nurturing of talent and skill, it equips the students with versatile qualities. The school has always encouraged its students to pursue their field of interest. For proper hand-

SAI Abhinandan

The annual SAI Abhinandan or Fresher’s Day was conducted on Friday, October 26, 2018 in the Indraprastha Auditorium. Students of Class XII warmly welcomed the Class XI students amidst music and fun.

Chairman Dr. Bijoy K Sahoo welcomed the students and said that “our SAIoneers have this healthy practice of transferring the baton to the juniors, one batch creating an event for the other, which is highly commendable”. He advised the students to take sincere steps to shape themselves and their career. Principal Shri Harish Sanduja shared his thoughts on happiness and advised the students never to put the key of their happiness into someone else’s hand. Sr. Vice Principal Shri Nilakantha Panigrahi spoke about the school culture and asked the students to give their best effort to achieve great success in life. SAI Abhinandan is one of the most eagerly awaited event of SAI International School as it gives students an

opportunity to breaks the ice between the two batches of students and help them to strengthen their bond as a true SAIoneer.

As no fresher party is complete without dance and music, the seniors enthralled the juniors with music and dance. Superb band performances, skillful fillers and outstanding dance shows by boys and girls filled the crowd with euphoria.

USTAD SABIR KHAN ENT HRALS STUDENTS AT SAI

Sarangi exponent and Music Composer Ustad Sabir Khan created an enchanting ambience in the auditorium of SAI International School on Friday, October 26, 2018 playing wonders with his customised musical instrument. He was accompanied by Shri Aadil Khan on Tabla.

Ustad Khan played some of his popular pieces from Bollywood films like Sanwariya, Dangal, Jodha Akbar as well as the recent release, City and briefed the students on how several Bollywood films songs are composed from a single Raga. The great musician also shared the history and origin of Sarangi and its genesis from a 3- stringed instrument to a 41-stringed master piece.

Speaking to the students, Ustad Khan said that his mission in life is to take Indian Classical Music to greater heights of success and through music share with the world, the real worth of the country which is full of rich culture, traditions and values. He also inspired the students to have a mission in life and accomplish it through perseverance and hard work. He ended the hour-long performance with his all-time favourite “Raghupati Raghav Rajaram”, playing the Sarangi and singing along with the students. Shri Harish Sandija, Principal SAI International School spoke about the importance of Indian classical music in the life of a student and said that it is only music which can connect one to the soul.

Ustad Khan who began studying music when he was six years old, is the son of legendary Sarangi player and vocalist Padma Bhushan Ustad Sultan Khan and is the 9th generation of the Sikar Gharana of music. He was trained by his father and Uncle, Ustad Nasir Khan. The young musician has proved his worth as a real successor of a proud lineage with his technique displaying tonal, melodic and rhythmic prowess which is a rare combination of sur and laya (note and rhythm). He has been honoured with several accolades like Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar and Sangeet Natak Akademi Yuva Puraskar. He has performed alongside legendary artists such as Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pt. Kumar Bose, Pt. Anindo Chatterjee, Ustad Gulam Ali, Talat Aziz, Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar. He played in several feature films like Chameli, Rog, Dor, Anwar, Sanwariya, Chodon na yaar, Jodha Akbar, Faisal Saif’s Amma which is a multilingual film.

The event was introduced by The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY), a voluntary youth movement which promotes intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage by promoting Indian classical music, classical dance, folk music, yoga, meditation, crafts and other aspects of Indian culture; it is a movement with chapters in over 300 towns all over the world.

PLEDGING SUPPORT FOR THE INDIAN ARMED FORCES

The Indian Armed Forces are the Military forces of the Country which consists of three professional uniformed services, the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force. It is supported by the Indian Coast Guard and paramilitary organisations as well as various inter-service commands and institutions such as the Strategic Forces Command, the Andaman and Nicobar Command and the Integrated Defence Staff. The Supreme Command of the Indian Armed Forces vests in the President.

As a mark of respect and to celebrate the Surgical Strike Day, students of SAI International School gifted the brave Jawans and Officers of the 120 Infantry Battalion, Bihar Regiment at Bhubaneswar letters and handmade cards on October 24, 2018. The beautiful and creative cards contained heartfelt messages from students who sincerely wanted to thank the Defence Personnel for being their perpetual protector. Through these token of love and appreciation, the young students pledged their support to the Indian Armed Forces.

Students felt highly privileged to do the honours as it gave them a great occasion to meet the Indian Army personally and thank them whole heartedly. They also got an excellent opportunity to watch the display of weapons and military equipment like Rifles, Pistols, Machine Guns, Grenade etc. Students got to interact with various levels of Officials to gain an in-depth idea on the functioning of the Army, learn about the life of a Defence Personnel and being motivated to choose Defence as a career.

Appreciating the students for their effort, Commanding Officer Col. Debadutta Swain said that “Very good pieces of creativity. It gives a great sense of accomplishment to find children acknowledging the contribution of Armed Forces.” Col Rajeev Kumar, Director, NCC Directorate Odisha, briefed the students about the life in the Army and said that is one of the most prestigious jobs in the country. Maj Gen Bhabani Shankar Das added that Being in Defence service is very respectable and it is one of the finest Organisation in the World”.

Shri Thongkholet Mate, RO, Bhubaneswar Region who coordinated the entire event spoke on the invaluable contribution of Armed Forces and thanked the Battalion for their hard work. Shri Nilakantha Panigrahi, Sr. Vice Principal SAI International School lauding the role of the Defence Personnel, shared that “Today we are enjoying a safe life because we know somewhere we are being protected by the Armed Forces”.

The Indian Armed Forces – these very words emanate a sense of respect and gratitude for their unending sacrifices to protect us, be it be in the icy terrain of Himalaya or the scorching heat of desert, they guard us as their family all day and night without complaining.

Our Flag does not fly because the wind moves it; It flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it. A Grand Salute to the Indian Armed Forces.

SAI TED 2018 launched

SAITED 2018 was launched on Tuesday, October 10, 2018 amidst brilliant performances of songs and dances in the Indraprastha auditorium. Chairman Dr. Bijoy K Sahoo introduced the SAITED team and unveiled the mascot ‘Phineas and Ferb’ to the resounding applause of the enthusiastic crowd. The Team SAITED showcased the launch

video and spoke about the new attractions and events of the 3rd edition of the event.

Highlighting the importance of such events, Dr. Sahoo said that ‘the world is moving very fast; the style of education is moving very fast and we need to be in tune with it’. He shared that the uniqueness of SAITED is that the students-led event is not confined to SAI International School but open to all the Schools in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. He also spoke about his vision of making SAITED a Pan India movement in the next few years.
