NEWS AND EVENTS An eventful decade of SAI International School Students of Class VI visited the Tribal Research Institute Museum on Thursday, November 1, 2018 as part of their educational trip. They had a wonderful time exploring the arts and artefacts of the various tribes of the state. Students had a glimpse into the way of living of the tribal people, their style of dressing, the weapons and agricultural equipment’s etc. For the young students it was a new experience of getting to know about people residing in their own state but having an altogether different style of living. The State has 62 distinct tribes, the largest number in the Country. Officially known as “tribals” or “adibasi” they constitute 24 percent of the total population of the state and 9.7% of the nation’s total tribal population. Established in the year 1953 and renovated in 2001, the museum is home to a rich collection of artefacts, crafts and art objects belonging to different tribes living in several parts of Odisha. The Museum is an integrated part of the Scheduled Castles and Scheduled Tribes Research and Training Institute (SCSTRTI), which disseminates knowledge covering the human species in totality. SAI Netritva SAI Netritva Camp Begins The two-day Annual Leadership Programme of SAI International School, the SAI Netritva Camp began on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. It commenced with 54 students of Class IX and X in the camp site, set amidst the sylvan surroundings of the Chandka Forests. Class XI Boys Students are ably guided and assisted by experts for the tenure over various areas which include leadership, soft skills training, communication skills through dramatics, social work and outdoor activities. To leverage the qualitative component of SAI Netritva, this year an hour-long Grooming Session and Pottery classes are being introduced, which will enable students to augment their confidence and refine their personality further. The Leadership Programme aims to inculcate the qualities of a true leader within each student and make them aware and confident global learners. The two-day and one-night camp focusses on building and fortifying attributes and skills to help students emerge with improved communication and numerous other life skills. The specially designed location with its training facilities help each and every child to explore their innate talent. SAI Netritva Camp: The enthusiastic girls of Class VIII, IX and X went for the SAI Netritva Camp on Wednesday, October 31, 2018. The fun-filled camp is an apt place to learn new skills, build confidence and other leadership qualities as well as make memories. The 2-day SAI Netritva Camp for Class VII boys begins today. Eight Six enthusiastic students have started their camping activities in the camp site set amidst the sylvan surroundings of the Chandka Forests. SAI Netritva Camp - Seventy-eight girls from Class XI went for the SAI Netritva Camp on Saturday, October 27, 2018. The students will have two whole days of fun-filled activities, indulging themselves in learning various new things like pottery, getting adventurous doing rappling, zip-line, freefall, Burma bridge etc and attending grooming classes to augment their confidence and other leadership skills The SAI Netritva Camp resumed on Monday, October 22, 2018 after the vacation. It started with 69 boys from Class VIII attending the camp. The 2-day camp is one of the most awaited event for the SAIoneers, who look forward to spent some fun-filled and adventurous time with their friends apart from honing their leadership skills. The 2-day fun filled activities culminated with a Valedictory Ceremony where the students were awarded with the Certificates. SAI Scouts and Guides take part in Camporee 2018: Scouts and Guides students of SAI International School took part in the 28th District Camporee of Bharat Scouts and Guides held at Capital High School, Bhubaneswar from November 1 to 3, 2018. Camporee is a local or regional gathering of Scouting units for a period of camping and common activities. SAI students took part in various competitions, adventure activities, cultural programme, Peace March etc SAI CELEBRATES GRAND PARENTS DAY To honor the grandparents and help them create memories with their grandchildren, every year SAI International School celebrates the day with lots of joy and fervor. Grandparents actively get involved with various activities and thoroughly enjoy the special day dedicated to them. On Saturday, October 6, 2018, the annual Grandparents Day was celebrated with loads of fun and festivity. Around 150 grandparents of students from Playgroup to Class III took part in the most awaiting celebration. The theme for the event was “Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahin”. The grandparents were treated to a medley of melodious and meaningful songs by the tiny tots and a brilliantly choreographed dance basing on songs from old movies, which swept in a nostalgic air and enthused the grandma‟s and grandpas to sway with the music. A fun-filled Just a Minute – Ball Game was conducted which saw enthusiastic participation from the high-spirited grandparents. The day ended with a ramp show displaying the intense bond of love between the grandparent and grandchild as they walked hand-in- hand on the stage. On the occasion, Principal Shri Harish Sanduja said that, “Parents have aspirations from their children, so that they become judgmental, but grandparents don‟t have that, so they provide a completely fearless environment for the child, which is an ideal environment to grow.” JOY OF GIVING CELEBR ATED AT SAI INTERNAT IONAL SCHOOL The Joy of Giving Week is an event that is observed every year at SAI International School with a lot of enthusiasm, reflecting the spirit of empathy and generosity of the students, teachers and parents alike. This festival of philanthropy held from Oct 2 to 8 unites millions of people across the country in celebrating the joyous donation drive. This gives us an opportunity to reach out to less privileged people with our acts and words of kindness. As part of the celebration of Joy of Giving Week or Daan Utsav, twenty students from the Going Global and Interact Club and three Teacher-Coordinators of SAI International School visited „Vriddhi‟, a vocational centre for Special Children on Thursday, October 4, 2018. The inmates of Vriddhi are involved in soap making, which is a few months old Startup. To help them leverage their activity, students of SAI conducted a training session covering hygiene issues like use of latex gloves, hair nets, aprons etc. They also provided the organization with a Storage bucket, gloves, hairnets, aprons to help them maintain the hygiene level while making soaps. SAIoneers also learnt to make soaps, getting involved in the 5-step process of soap making, working hand in hand with the inmates of Vriddhi. A small community library was also donated to the organisation under the 100 Library Project of SAI to help the new friends enhance their learning horizon. A story telling session was organised, songs were shared, and all the children sang and danced to their heart‟s content. The preparation for the event started few weeks prior to the D-day. A selected group of students and teachers visited the organisation to understand their requirements and accordingly charted out the list of activities. Students deeply felt the need for maintaining the hygiene level of soap making and also saw the lack of storage space which motivated them to pool in money to donate a huge bucket and the other essentials. Students also felt the children at Vriddhi need to read and enjoy books, for which they suggested to install a library and accordingly an almirah and books catering to their needs were provided. Finally everyone was happy as the day came to a close. WORKSHOP ON E-WASTE MANAGEMENT India is among the five biggest producers of E-Waste in the world, generating about two million tonnes per annum annually as per the recent ASSOCHAM-NEC study. The current rate of e-waste generation in India is 4.56 times greater than the annual e-waste processing capacity offered by the nation, which leads to improper and illegal dumping or disposal of the hazardous e-waste. It is a great emerging threat that can have an adverse impact on environment and people. A workshop on Building an eco-system for effective management of e-waste in Bhubaneswar was conducted by Clean E-Bhubaneswar for the students of SAI International School on Wednesday, October 31, 2018. The students were briefed on the effect of dumped electronic gadgets like Refrigerator, Washing machines, Computers and Printers, Televisions, Mobiles, Ipods etc., that spread toxins in the environment. The Resource persons Shri Aakash Kumar Singh and Shri Narsingh Panigrahy, Consultants of the Project, stressed on the importance of the 4-R like Reduce, Reuse, Repair and Recycle and promoted their campaign for collection and scientific disposal of e-waste. Students were also made aware of the law CAREER GUIDANCE BY UNIVARIETY A workshop on career guidance was conducted for the students of Class XI and XII by Univariety on October 29 and 30, 2018. Students from all the three streams attended the sessions. The Univariety career guidance expert Ms Stuti Verma interacted with the students and briefed them about various options that a student can select. The upcoming career options in the field of Humanities, Engineering, Bio Sciences, Psychology, Sports, Art and Design were thoroughly discussed. Students also got to know about fascinating career options like Fashion Consultancy, Forensic Accounting, Sports Management, Forensic Psychology, Cyber Forensic, Ethical Hacking, Mechatronics, Industrial Design etc. Ms. Verma emphasised on the skills required for each career and suggested the students to focus on career planning as per their skill set.
