Valladolid, 81, 1º - 28008 Madrid – Tel. 915482423 - Fax:915476113 / 915480638 Página Web: www.rfea.es – Correo electrónico: [email protected] Nota de Prensa - 029/2007 - Madrid, 22 de marzo de 2007 En la segunda prueba de la IAAF Race Walking Challenge 2007 “PAQUILLO” FERNÁNDEZ Y GARCÍA BRAGADO COMPITEN EN CHINA “Paquillo” Fernández y Jesús Ángel García, vigentes campeones de España de 20 y 50 kilómetros marcha respectivamente, tras los títulos obtenidos el 4 de marzo en Santa Eularia des Riu (Ibiza), afrontan este fin de semana la segunda prueba puntuable de la Challenge Mundial de marcha de la IAAF, en Shenzhen (China). Una competición que en 2007 comenzó el 10 y 11 de marzo en Naucalpan (México) sin presencia española, fundamentalmente por su cercanía con el citado Campeonato de España. Los dos mejores especialistas españoles de 20 y 50 kilómetros compiten el sábado 24, día que se disputa el 20km, y el domingo 25 que se celebra el 50km. “Paquillo” Fernández ha sido el ganador de la Challenge Mundial de marcha de la IAAF en 2005 y 2006 y en estos momentos es el mejor especialista mundial de “veinte” en la que suma podio tras podio desde 2002 cuando batió el récord mundial (1h17:22), que en la actualidad es la plusmarca europea y la segunda mejor marca mundial de la historia. En 2002 ganó el título europeo en Munich y lo renovó el año pasado en Goteborg, en 2003 y 2005 fue subcampeón mundial en París y Helsinki respectivamente y en 2004 logró la plata olímpica en Atenas. Ya en 1998 fue medallista de bronce europeo en Budapest y también suma victorias en la Copa de Europa de 1998 y de 2003 y en la Copa del Mundo en 2006. Por su parte, Jesús Angel García Bragado, es uno de los marchadores más longevos de la historia, pues comenzó a ganar títulos en el Mundial de Stuttgart’93 (oro en 50km) cuando le faltaban 2 meses para cumplir 24 años, y el año pasado, 13 años después, logró el subcampeonato europeo de 50km. Entre estas dos medallas, Jesús Ángel logró una victoria y dos segundos puestos en la Copa del Mundo, tres victorias y un segundo puesto en la Copa de Europa, dos subcampeonatos mundiales en 1997 y 2001, y una medalla de bronce en los Europeos de Munich’2002. Todos estos éxitos internacionales le convierten en uno de los mejores marchadores mundiales de la historia. The day's racing included men's and women's events at 20 Km and junior men 's and women 's events at IO Km. Joining the team will be the men selected at an earlier 50 Km trial. The team includes five men and women at 20. five men at 50. and three juniors at IO for both men and women .. Today . Tim Seaman and Joanne Dow were easy winners in the two 20 Km races held on a 2 Km lap course . The women's race was dominated by veteran walkers with vast international experience . Joanne Dow , a couple of weeks past her 40th birlhday and a member of three Woorld Cup and two World Championship teams in the past, took command early in the race, dropping Teresa Vaill by 5 km and holding a 42 second lead as she passed JO km in 46:21. Content with the win. she didn't push for time and finished in I :34:44 , more than two minutes ahead of Vaill. Vaill, 41 , has been on six World Cup teams, dating back to 1985. She struggled over the second halfofthe race, but was still well clear of Michelle Rohl.

This was the only A qualifier done on the day in the horrendous conditions and it was her third win in a row in this annual championship. This confirmed her Olympic spot and was a dominant display. This week, I am going to balance the equation and announce my walker of the week as Jared Tallent. Jared and Claire flew out on the Sunday morning after their heroics in Hobart and both contested 20km races a week later in what was a big weekend carnival of walking in Chihuahua in Mexico – and both were successful, earning silvers in their respective events. Jared fought it out with Eder Sanchez of Mexico, taking silver in 1:21:50 while Claire fought it out with Portuguese walker Ines Henriques, also taking silver in 1:33:21. You can read about both their performances later in the newsletter. Editorial People all over the world love race walking. It started here, and now reaches into every continent. I often find myself in contact with people in far-off exotic locations. I’ve just recently returned from racing in Switzerland and France. Faces become familiar from race to race abroad, and people eventually introduce themselves and over time become friends. Many readers have told me how they have made long- term friends at overseas events. Several people at the Swiss event turned up six days later at the French event 500 miles away, and supported each other just because they had that one common link. Race Walking is treated slightly differently within each country, but walkers have a huge respect for each other whether they are Olympians or just fitness walkers. UK walkers race abroad in many countries each year, and welcome overseas walkers to events here. This magazine is now sent to readers in twenty different countries, and growing... People queuing behind me at the post office each month really hate me, as I have so many international magazines to send, one-by-one! On my holiday I found the source of the River Danube and ceremoniously set one of my old trainers floating down it. An hour later, the other one was set floating down the River Rhine. (Please don’t litter!) You can’t just throw away something that has brought you so much enjoyment! Am I crazy? Aren’t all race walkers..

    IAAF COMMENTS ON INDEPENDENT COMMISSION'S REPORT #1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY On 9 November 2015, the Independent Commission issued a report (the IC Report) that set out evidence of widespread doping by Russian athletes, but also suggested that 'particular highly placed members and officials of IAAF' may have taken bribes to delay the bringing of anti-doping charges against certain athletes in 2012. On that basis, the Independent Commission suggested that it had 'identified systemic failures within the IAAF and Russia that prevent or diminish the possibility of an effective anti-doping program …'. These allegations of corruption by individuals formerly associated with the IAAF are truly abhorrent, and the IAAF cannot, and does not, seek to avoid or downplay them in any way. The IAAF wishes to salute the courage of the whistle-blowers (including its own staff members) who have helped to expose the wrongdoing described in the IC Report. It will do everything in its power to punish the wrongdoers and to reform its own systems to make sure that no one can ever again interfere improperly with its anti-doping procedures. However, the IAAF believes it is also important to point out that: ñ No doping case has been covered up by the IAAF. All cases that should have been pursued were pursued and all cases that should have been sanctioned were sanctioned in accordance with IAAF Rules and the World Anti-Doping Code. ñ The IAAF is aware of four cases where (as the Independent Commission suggests) there were unexplained and suspicious delays in the prescribed results management process.
