Harold Mayot Remporte L'open D'australie Junior COMMUNIQUE DE PRESSE Harold Mayot remporte l’Open d’Australie junior er Paris, le 1 février 2020 Harold Mayot a remporté aujourd’hui l’Open d’Australie junior. Agé de 17 ans, le jeune Tricolore, licencié à l’ASPTT Metz (Ligue du Grand Est), s’est imposé en finale face à son compatriote Arthur Cazaux, licencié au TC Saint-Gély-du-Fesc (ligue Occitanie), en deux sets (6-4 6-1). Les deux joueurs ont eu le privilège de disputer leur première finale de Grand Chelem sur la Rod Laver Arena, le court central de l’Open d’Australie. Il s’agissait de la première finale 100% française en Grand Chelem depuis 2004 (elle avait alors opposé, déjà à Melbourne, Gaël Monfils et Josselin Ouanna). Harold Mayot, actuellement 3e mondial au classement junior, est ainsi le premier Français depuis Alexandre Sidorenko en 2006 à décrocher le titre junior dans le Grand Chelem australien. Grâce à cette victoire, il occupera la 1ère place du classement mondial junior lundi prochain. Le protégé de Thierry Tulasne, qui en profite pour remporter le plus beau titre de sa jeune carrière, devient le sixième joueur tricolore à inscrire son nom au palmarès de cette épreuve. Le bilan de ce tournoi junior garçon est exceptionnel pour le tennis français. Alors qu’il y avait sept Français en lice dans cette épreuve, trois jeunes tricolores ont réussi à se hisser en demi-finales (Timo Legout s’était incliné face à Harold Mayot à ce stade de la compétition). Il s’agissait d’une première depuis 2002 à Melbourne (cette année-là, Clément Morel, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga et Richard Gasquet avaient atteint le dernier carré). Ces excellents résultats s’ajoutent aux belles performances globales des juniors français. 12 joueurs tricolores sont en effet présents cette semaine dans le top 100 du classement junior (garçons). « Au nom de la DTN de la Fédération Française de Tennis, je tiens à féliciter Harold Mayot pour ce magnifique titre. Je salue également les performances de Arthur Cazaux et de Timo Legout, qui ont réalisé un parcours remarquable lors de cet Open d’Australie 2020. J’en profite pour remercier toutes les personnes impliquées dans leur préparation et leur encadrement. Même si le chemin est encore long, ces excellents résultats, associés à ceux obtenus ces dernières années sur le circuit junior par Clara Burel et Diane Parry, n°1 mondiale junior, se révèlent être de très bon augure pour l’avenir du tennis français. Le plan junior du programme « Agir et Gagner », co-construit par les équipes de la Direction Technique Nationale et celles des Territoires engagées sur le terrain, porte ainsi ses fruits. Medvedev and Bublik are two of four Russians under the age of 21 who are ranked in the Top 350 of the Emirates ATP Rankings. The others, 20-year-old Karen Khachanov and 18-year-old Andrey Rublev, are also in the main draw. Khachanov fell to Alexander Zverev on Monday, while Rublev meets Mikhail Kukushkin on Wednesday. Medvedev and Bublik have been doubles partners on the ATP Challenger Tour, ITF Futures Circuit and ITF Juniors Circuit. Their lone singles meeting was won by Medvedev in March at a Challenger event in Kazan, Russia. Medvedev has qualified for four ATP World Tour events since then, earning his first two tour-level victories at ’s-Hertogenbosch on grass and at Hamburg on clay. Tuesday’s match marks the ATP World Tour main draw debut for Bublik, who fell in the final round of qualifying at the 2015 St. Petersburg Open. Also on Centre Court are a pair of players who won their first ATP World Tour titles in July.
