Of the associated entomofauna phytophagous beetles (Coleoptera) of various taxonomic groups adapted their life history to this ancient host tree. This occurred either already before the late Gondwanian interruption of the previously joint Araucaria distribution or only later in the already geographically separated populations. A bibliographic survey of the eastern and western coleopterans recorded on Araucaria trees resulted in well over 200 species belonging to 17 families. These studies include records of beetles living on 12 of the 19 extant Araucaria species. Their occurrence and adaptations to the host trees are discussed under aspects of evolution and co- speciation. • The Beetle Fauna of Dominica, Lesser Antilles (Insecta: Coleoptera): Diversity and Distribution
    INSECTA MUNDI, Vol. 20, No. 3-4, September-December, 2006 165 The beetle fauna of Dominica, Lesser Antilles (Insecta: Coleoptera): Diversity and distribution Stewart B. Peck Department of Biology, Carleton University, 1125 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, Ontario K1S 5B6, Canada stewart_peck@carleton. ca Abstract. The beetle fauna of the island of Dominica is summarized. It is presently known to contain 269 genera, and 361 species (in 42 families), of which 347 are named at a species level. Of these, 62 species are endemic to the island. The other naturally occurring species number 262, and another 23 species are of such wide distribution that they have probably been accidentally introduced and distributed, at least in part, by human activities. Undoubtedly, the actual numbers of species on Dominica are many times higher than now reported. This highlights the poor level of knowledge of the beetles of Dominica and the Lesser Antilles in general. Of the species known to occur elsewhere, the largest numbers are shared with neighboring Guadeloupe (201), and then with South America (126), Puerto Rico (113), Cuba (107), and Mexico-Central America (108). The Antillean island chain probably represents the main avenue of natural overwater dispersal via intermediate stepping-stone islands. The distributional patterns of the species shared with Dominica and elsewhere in the Caribbean suggest stages in a dynamic taxon cycle of species origin, range expansion, distribution contraction, and re-speciation.     Checklist of the Cerambycidae and Disteniidae (Coleoptera) of the Western Hemisphere M. A. Monné & F.T. Hovore - Electronic Version, 2002.1 Part One: Parandrinae through Lepturinae This checklist is as complete as possible for taxonomic work published through 31 May 2003. Tribes follow traditional treatments, but tribal classifications within the family have not been fully evaluated using modern phylogenetic methods, so ordering is to some degree arbitrary. Genera and species are listed alphabetically. Geographical distributions reflect the present knowledge of the authors and previous checklist data, and are subject to expansion as additional data is contributed. Provincial citations are used for some larger countries to more accurately indicate known ranges. Bibliographies for each species are not included, and the authors refer users to Monné, 1993, et seq., Catalogue of the Cerambycidae of the Western Hemisphere (Parts 1 - 22), for complete citations. A bibliographic file is included as Part Three of this electronic version. Considerable disagreement has existed over the status of the disteniid longhorns, which at various times have been separated as a separate family, the Disteniidae. The most recent taxonomic treatment (Lawrence & Newton, 1995) is as a subfamily, Disteniinae, and they are included as such herein. Abbreviations used in the list: Argentina BA = Buenos Aires; CA = Catamarca; CD = Córdoba; CH = Chaco; CO = Corrientes; CT = Chubut; ER = Entre Ríos; FO = Formosa; JU = Jujuy; LP = La Pampa; LR = La Rioja; ME = Mendoza;

    © Biologiezentrum Linz/Austria; download unter www.biologiezentrum.at Linzer biol. Beitr. 31/2 603-622 31.12.1999 Zur Cerambycidenfauna Äthiopiens I - Prinoninae, Spondylinae, Cerambycinae (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae) K. ADLBAUER Abstract: 50 Cerambycidae (Prinoninae, Spondylinae, Cerambycinae) are reported from the southern half of Ethiopia, 17 of which were hitherto unknown from Ethopia. Etiosaphanus gen. nov. with the type species Etiosaphanus werneri spec, nova, Allogaster aethiopicus spec, nova and Cordylomera annulicornis werneri ssp. nova are described as new. The hitherto unknown 3 oiXystrocera sudanica BREUNING 1957 is described and the differences to its nearest allied species, X. granulipennis BREUNING 1957 are documented. Listrocerum rufum (BREUNING 1958) syn. nov. is a new synonym of L. aeolis (THOMSON 1857), the subgenus Metameces SCHMIDT 1922 (from Promeces SERVDXE 1834) is declared invalid. Key words: Coleoptera, Cerambycidae, new records, new taxa, new synonym, Ethiopia. Einleitung Obwohl das entomologische Interesse schon früh auf Äthiopien gerichtet war, blieben unsere Kenntnisse in Bezug auf die Bockkäferfauna bis heute mehr oder weniger frag- mentarisch. Als Beispiele für faunistische (und taxonomische) Studien sei an die Bear- beitung der Cerambyciden durch GUERIN-MENEVILLE 1849 im mehrbändigen Werk von LEFEBVRE „Voyage en Abyssinie" hingewiesen, oder an die Publikationen von FAIRMAIRE 1893, GESTRO 1895, MOLLER 1939, BUXTON 1940 bzw. in neuerer Zeit von BREUNING & VlLLIERS 1972, FUCHS 1972, MOURGLIA 1981, QUENTIN & VlLLIERS 1981 und MURZIN 1989. Rein descriptive Arbeiten wurden etwa von AURIVILLIUS 1928, MÜLLER 1941 bis 1949 und BREUNING 1974 bis 1976 erstellt. Gründe für den immer noch sehr unzureichenden Erforschungsstand sind einerseits die relative Unzugänglichkeit weiter Bereiche, andererseits die politische Instabilität, die Äthiopien mit vielen anderen Ländern Afrikas teilt und die oftmals eine unüberwindbare Barriere für entomologische Freilanduntersuchungen dargestellt hat (siehe auch WERNER 1993).

  • Second Contribution to the Knowledge of Longhorn Beetles of the Syrian Coastal Region (Coleoptera Cerambycidae)
    Biodiversity Journal , 2016, 7 (2): 261–272 Second contribution to the knowledge of Longhorn Beetles of the Syrian Coastal Region (Coleoptera Cerambycidae) Khaldoun Ali 1* & Pierpaolo Rapuzzi 2 1Plant Protection Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Tishreen University, Latakia, Syria 2Via Cialla 48, 33040 Prepotto, Udine, Italy; e-mail: [email protected] *Corresponding auhor, e-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT Knowledge relating to the Longhorn Beetles of Syria was extended in this study, with special emphasis on the Coastal Region (SCR), which was the focal point of a previous study we published last year (2015). This contribution provides a detailed account about additional species and subspecies that were collected from different areas and localities of the SCR, in as much as reporting two new species to be recorded for the first time from the Syrian territory, namely: Stenopterus atricornis Pic, 1891 and Pogonocherus barbarae Rapuzzi et Sama, 2012. Among the examined catches, one specimen was identified down to the genus level, but its species status is doubtful and its validity still needs further examination. All availabe faunistics, biogeographies and bionomics of all the reported species and subspecies are given. Moreover, a complete, refined and annotated checklist of the Syrian Cerambycidae was introduced, with special reference to all taxa recoreded from SCR up to the time of publication of this work.
