Winter in Effect from Hazards:  Total Snowfall in Warned Area – 6am to 9pm Today for much of the Area  Around 6” for NE NJ, NYC, S Westchester, W LI, and SW CT  6-9” for E LI and SE CT.  Snowfall rates: 1-2”/hr likely  Visibility: 1/4 mile or less at times  Temps: Upper 20s-Lower 30s today, Lower 20s tonight.

 Total Snowfall in Advisory Area  3-6” for Interior portions of Lower Hud, NE NJ and SW CT  Snowfall rates: Up to 1”/hr possible  Visibility:1/2 mile at times  Temps: Mid 20s today, Mid teens tonight

Impacts:  Scattered downed tree branches and power outages due to snow loading possible, mainly LI and coastal SE CT.  Difficult travel today

Forecast Challenges: Snow Timing:  The northwest extent and duration of heavy snow banding  Onset: 7-10am from Southwest to Northeast will have to be refined as the event approaches.  Heaviest snow: 10am to 6pm window  Highest probability for several hours of heavy snow  Longest duration over E LI and SE CT banding is across E LI and SE CT.  Ending: 6-9pm from West to East  Precip may briefly start as rain across E LI this morning.
