Debbie Rollinson Council Commissioner Sam Houston Area Council 2 Distinguished Eagle Scout Award The National Court of Honor of the Boy Scouts of America established the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award in 1969. Since its inception, this prestigious award has been presented approximately 1,500 times nationally. The Sam Houston Area Council's Distinguished Eagle Scout Award recipients are equally representative of the character and successful lifetime achievement and service necessary to be recognized for this honor. The elite list of Distinguished Eagle Scouts named below from the Sam Houston Area Council exemplifies the Eagle Scout Challenge as an example of their lifetime achievement. Honorable Lloyd N. Krouskop National Court of Honor Lifesaving and Meritorious Action Awards Upon nomination by the Sam Houston Area Council, the National Court of Honor of the Boy Scouts of America has authorized the presentation of Lifesaving and Meritorious Action Awards. The Medal of Merit may be awarded to a youth or leader who has performed an act of service of a rare or exceptional character that reflects an uncommon degree of concern for the well-being of others. • Ryan Smallwood for rescuing a fellow adventurer caught in a dangerous river current while on expedition in Alaska. • Susan Ballard for her actins administering CPR and saving the life of a citizen while at a civic ceremony. 4 2020 Silver Beaver Award The Boy Scouts of America, acting through the National Court of Honor and upon the nomination of the Sam Houston Area Council, presents the Silver Beaver Award to persons for their distinguished service to youth. The Sam Houston Area Council makes a limited number of nominations each year, according to the total number of units registered in the council. This award is bestowed for noteworthy service of exceptional character to youth by registered adult volunteers who have been nominated by their Scouting peers. Upon nomination by the Sam Houston Area Council, the National Court of Honor of the Boy Scouts of America has authorized the presentation of the Silver Beaver Award to the following Scouters: Pablo Canovas Pablo Canovas has been actively engaged as a Scouter in Soaring Eagle District for 10 years. He currently serves as Scoutmaster for Troop 928, District Vice Chairman for Administration, Unit Commissioner, and Merit Badge Counselor. At the Pack level, Pablo held the Assistant Cubmaster and Cubmaster positions, as well as Pack Trainer, and Committee member. At the Troop level, aside from his current position, he previously held Assistant Scoutmaster and Committee member positions. Pablo has consistently served the District in many positions, including Day Camp staff, District Training Committee Chair, District Committee member, Friends of Scouting presenter, and District Life to Eagle Coordinator. Pablo has also served as a member of the Council Training Committee and staffed NYLT. Pablo has been awarded the District Award of Merit and his family was recognized as District Family of the Year. He has also been recognized for his service to Scouting earning several awards, including Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouter’s Key and Scouter’s Training Award, and Commissioner Arrowhead Award. Pablo is Wood Badge trained and earned the Bachelor of Commissioner Science. Outside of Scouting, Pablo has served in the community as Vice President of the Northland Christian School Booster Club, and volunteered with Souper Bowl of Caring, Harris County Trash Bash, and Mercy Ministry at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Pablo is passionate about helping Scouts achieve their dream of becoming an Eagle Scout and helping teach them to become productive citizens in our society. 6 Bill Caudill Bill, an Eagle Scout, has served Scouts as an adult leader for 41 years. Currently he is in the Twin Bayou District and serves as a Board member, SHAC Executive Committee Member, SHAC Chair, Governance Committee member, and is a member of the Order of the Arrow. Previously, he served in Troop 104 in the Northeastern Arkansas Area Council and also served as the Governance Committee Properties Master Plan Committee. He was the Charter Organization Representative for his Pack, and at the Troop level, he’s led as Assistant Scoutmaster, Charter Organization Representative, and Summer Camp Leader. For the District, he was a Merit Badge Counselor. At the Council level, he has been Council Committee Chair, Committee member and Council Executive Board Member. Bill has earned the James E. West Fellowship Award, Ordeal and Brotherhood in the Order of the Arrow. Outside of Scouts, he is active in the American Bar Association, Section of Taxation, and Distinguished Service Award Committee, Pro Bono Service Fellowships Committee Board member, Episcopal High School Foundation Board member and the DeBakey Medical Foundation. His previous volunteer service has included chairing the committees listed above, being active in the St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, an Elected Representative to the Protestant Episcopal Church Council of the Diocese of Texas, Vestry, Chair, Finance Committee, Chair, Music Committee, Treasurer, and Assistant Treasurer for the Texas Commemorative Quarter Advisory Commission (appointed by the Governor). David Crawfoot David Crawfoot has been actively engaged as a Scouter in Aldine Pathfinder and Lone Star districts for 12 years. He currently serves as Scoutmaster for Troop 141, Unit Executive Officer, District Order of the Arrow Chapter Advisor, and Merit Badge Counselor. At the Pack level, David was a Webelos Den Leader, Assistant Cubmaster, as well as Pack Trainer. At the Troop level, aside from his current position, he previously held the Chartered Organization Representative position and summer camp event leader on numerous occasions. He is also a Venturing Crew Committee member. David has been involved in delivering all four functions of a district, serving in many positions, including District Advancement Committee Chair, District Popcorn Kernel, District Activities Committee member, District Finance Committee member, District Membership Committee member, Day Camp staff, District Religious Emblems Coordinator, District Scouting for Food Chair, as well as District Commissioner, Scouts BSA Roundtable Commissioner, and Unit Commissioner. David has also been a Cub Scout Pow Wow Leader trainer, Fun with Son volunteer, and SHAC Corps volunteer. David has been awarded the District Award of Merit and Unit Leader Award of Merit. He has also been recognized for his service to Scouting earning several awards, including Den Leader Training Award, Scouter’s and Scoutmaster’s Key, Scouter’s Training Award, Commissioner Arrowhead Award, and William D. Boyce New Unit Organizer Award. David is Wood Badge trained and earned the Master of Commissioner Science. Outside of Scouting, David currently serves in the community as President of the Nimitz High School Band Booster Club. David believes his greatest achievement in Scouting is helping start two new units – a Scouts BSA troop for boys and another for girls. 8 David Godell David Godell is active with the Humble ISD PTA system and regularly consults with the Humble ISD School Board. During Hurricane Harvey, he decided to get his HAM radio license in order to better help the community in the future and is a member of the local American Radio Relay League. He is also a member and has served Deer Park Lodge and Arabia Shriners as a clown. In Scouting, David earned his Eagle Scout Rank in East Texas Council where his youth activities took him to participate and serve at Camp Pirtle. He has assisted in many roles in both his units and District, which is currently Flaming Arrow. He has served as a Merit Badge Counselor, a HAM radio trainer (29 licensed new radio operators under his tutelage), and has served in many adult positions in both Packs and Troops. David has been very active at the District level with Day Camp, as a Unit Commissioner, Camping Committee Chair, Friends of Scouting Presentations, District Training, and many more. In addition, David is an Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor Member and can be seen assisting Chapter leadership to make sure the youth receive a well rounded program. David received the District Award of Merit in 2010, The Commissioner’s Award of Excellence, Commissioners Arrowhead and Key, as well as the Scouters Key. He has also attended Wood Badge and National Camp School and served as National Camp School Course
