Del Rio, who was raised in nearby Hayward, Calif., becomes the 19th head coach in the 55-year history of the franchise. The appointment begins Del Rio’s second tenure as an NFL head coach, having served in that role for the Jacksonville Jaguars for nine seasons from 2003 to 2011.
