Māngungu – List No. 9849 listed as wāhi tūpuna Māngungu is a significant place of cultural exchange on the Hokianga Harbour where the hau kāinga, Ngāti Toro, Te Popoto, and Te Ngahengahe of Ngāpuhi iwi, provided a place for Wesleyan missionaries to establish a base in the late 1820s. It is also the place where the largest signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi was held in 1840 when rangatira of Ngāpuhi and Te Rarawa hapū gathered to receive envoys of the British Crown.
