Metier was a decent performer on the flat in Ireland and has progressed from race to race over hurdles since moving to Harry Fry. He is a strong stayer who performs well on soft ground. It is taken as fact that the course will be prepared to ride no firmer than Good to Soft on the opening day. Soaring Glory showed marked improvement when impressively winning the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury. He appears to be less dependent on ground conditions than Metier and looks sure to figure. On soft ground Grumpy Charlie could run better than his odds suggest if allowed to take his chance. Despite not being totally straightforward, he is improving with racing experience. DMC: At the start of the season, it looked like Appreciate It was going to be Willie Mullins’ Ballymore Hurdle horse, and that Ferny Hollow was going to be his Supreme Novices’ Hurdle horse.

  • Welcome to the March 2015 Edition of the Donn Mcclean Racing Newsletter. Looking Ahead
Welcome to the March 2015 edition of the Donn McClean Racing newsletter. Looking ahead It’s all about Cheltenham now. Just a few days to go. The Gold Cup picture has finally come into focus. Holywell was the last main contender to warm up for the race in public, Jonjo O’Neill’s horse recording a facile victory at Kelso last month. Carlingford Lough had already thrown his hat into the ring when he won the Hennessy at Leopardstown, and Foxrock had given his owner Barry Connell a should-I-pay-the-supplementary- entry-fee-or-not-type headache by chasing him home, less than a length behind. They are the nice types of headaches. Hurricane Fly keeps on beating last year’s Champion Hurdler Jezki to remind us that he is a player, even at the age of 11 (wasn’t Sea Pigeon 11?), and threatens to give Ruby Walsh another one of those nice types of headaches: Hurricane Fly or Faugheen. Faugheen is the 5/4 favourite for the Champion, but how would you get off Hurricane Fly? The Champion Chase picture is still a little blurred. Sprinter Sacre was beaten by Dodging Bullets on his return to the racetrack in the Clarence House Chase at Ascot, and Sire De Grugy unseated his rider on his return in the Game Spirit Chase at Newbury. That allowed Clarence House Chase winner Dodging Bullets and Game Spirit Chase winner Mr Mole to enter the fray. Then Sire De Grugy won at Chepstow and the money for Sprinter Sacre in recent days suggests that he might be back close to his best.

Rather than going to Cheltenham or Aintree he went to Ascot where he won a juvenile handicap hurdle by six lengths and looked impressive doing so. The fact that the trainer hasn’t been quick to rush him probably indicates that connections feel he has a very promising future and as such he is definitely worth noting. AGRAPART (5yo) Trainer: Nick Williams This French bred five year old relishes softer conditions, so keep an eye out for his entries on heavy ground. He showed a touch of class when winning last seasons Betfair Hurdle by eleven lengths and as top class horses such as Zarkandar and My Tent Or Yours have won recent renewals this could follow in their footsteps.

FACTFILES FOR THE 40 DECLARED RUNNERS IN THE 2013 JOHN SMITH’S GRAND NATIONAL ACROSS THE BAY (IRE) FACTFILE b g Bob’s Return(IRE) - The Southern (IRE) (Glacial Storm (USA)) 9-11-02 Form: 3/14512/49312U2/PP1P8/782425P3-11271 Owner: Scotch Piper Syndicate Trainer: Donald McCain Jockey: Henry Brooke Breeder: Noel McLoughlin Across The Bay Across The Bay, foaled on April 9, 2004, has raced 31 times for seven victories, most recently a length and a quarter defeat of Trustan Times in a Grade Two hurdle on heavy ground at Haydock in February. The bay gelding, bred by Noel McLoughlin, started his career as a four-year-old with Noel Meade in Ireland, who acquired him for 25,000 euros as an unbroken three-year-old. Across The Bay won a bumper at Navan second time out, before adding hurdles at Fairyhouse and Leopardstown and a chase at Naas. Two weeks after finishing unplaced in a handicap hurdle at Punchestown in May 2011 he was sent to the Doncaster Spring Sales, where he was knocked down for £10,000, though he has carried on racing in the name of the Scotch Piper Syndicate. After he went under the hammer he transferred from Meade to Donald McCain, with all his 11 runs since in Britain. At the John Smith’s Grand National meeting last year he finished a creditable third to Big Buck’s in the BGC Partners Liverpool Hurdle. He resumed over fences this season with victories at Kelso and Carlisle on November 12, when he beat last year’s Grand National fourth Cappa Bleu by 28 lengths in heavy ground at level weights.

  • What Betting Maestro Can Do for You
Editor’s Welcome This month's sponsor is Geegeez Gold. Geegeez Gold is a multi-award-winning race card and internet form service designed to give racing bettors more (and better) information in less time. There's a fantastic On Course Profits exclusive free signup offer if you'd like to take Geegeez Gold for a spin (and, a user myself, I highly recommend that you do). You can try it for 10 weeks for free – Click Here For our feature article this month we have a collection of systems that will see you with selections all the way through to next April and the detailed research is guaranteed to bring us winners every month of the way. The Little Acorns October Trainer systems produced a huge profit for followers and this month John Burke has taken a similar approach for December. John has also looked at how to win at Newbury and investigated factors that are overrated by punters and should not be given so much weight in the winner finding calculation. We have had a virtual chat with well known Australian software producer Steve Davidson and his story makes an interesting read for any horse racing fan. Jamie is back with his tips for the Big Bang and if you’re a cricket bettor and followed his advice last month you were hopefully on one of his recommended bets that won at 15/8 and 10/3. The last full month of system selections made a huge 45.65 points profit at Betfair SP after commission you can find full details inside.
