East Hedgehog Rescue is Remains Open

East Boldre Hedgehog Rescue remains open for sick and injured hedgehogs and very soon orphans too. Protocol is in place for the current crisis. Call for details if you find a hedgehog that needs help.

Hedgehogs are waking up from hibernation now and will be very thirsty so a dish of fresh water would be appreciated.

If you start to see hedgehog poo or you know you have visiting hedgehogs, some dry cat food or hedgehog dry food will help them get back on their paws and prepare them for courting.

If you're gardening please check for hedgehogs before you strim or mow long grass. An ideal sleeping place for hedgehogs who will just curl up not run away from the danger. Bonfires are also hedgehog hotels so check before lighting for residents. For advice on any hedgehog situation call and leave a message, text or email me on the details below.

East Boldre Emergency Plan – Keep Yourself Safe While Helping Others

Here is a message from Mike Upton, Emergency Plan Coordinator.

I do hope that you are keeping well. Also don’t forget that if you are isolating yourself there are others that can help you with shopping etc.

I just wanted to bring to your attention the need to protect both the isolating or vulnerable person and yourself when providing any assistance.

This includes the need for distancing and hand washing and only providing help if you are below 70 years of age and in good health with no underlying conditions.

Another issue that may arise is a request to transport someone to the doctors or to hospital for an appointment or tests. In this instance please get advice from their doctor before considering offering transport. If Coronavirus is suspected, the NHS should provide appropriate transport. The standing advice is not to undertake a car journey with anyone that you are not living with and you should not put yourself at risk in this way.

Government guidance on providing assistance during the current crisis is given at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-how-to-help-safely-- 2/coronavirus-how-to-help-safely

If you have any questions on this, please let me know. This is all new to me as well, but I will try to help.

Police Beat Surgeries

Here is a message from the local police:

In line with government advice and the latest information from Public Health about keeping our communities and our staff safe, we have decided to postpone all of our Beat surgeries and public meetings for the foreseeable future.

However, we are all still on duty and you can contact us via email, telephone or through our Facebook page. If you haven’t already, please like and share our Facebook page and get as many of your friends and family to do the same. It’s an excellent way for us to keep you up to date with what we do and for us to be able to pass on important information to you immediately, especially during this difficult time. You can find us on Facebook at ‘ HEART COPS’

We will also be holding two online Beat Surgeries in April. They will be 6:30 pm on Wednesday 8th April and at 3:00 pm on Wednesday 22nd April. Just go to our Facebook page NEW FOREST HEART COPS and you’ll be able to ask us questions without leaving the house.

And please keep monitoring the Government website for all the latest on what we all need to be doing at this time. As police we will be out on patrol asking people to adhere to these guidelines because by staying home we keep everyone safe, and that’s all that really matters at this time isn’t it.

Criminal Damage Continues in East Boldre

Here is a message from East Boldre Parish Council

The Police have had a lot of reports of criminal damage in the village and have been following up this week. East Boldre is now a key area for community Policeman, Jason Eastwood.

If you can get evidence like photographs or film footage of the people committing crimes, please send them directly to Jason or Vicki Pressey at the e-mail addresses below.

It’s such a shame that this is all happening at this worrying time. The Parish council had plans to develop more community initiatives to deter such behaviour along with the help of Jason and Vicki (PcSO). This will now be delayed until current restrictions are lifted.

Please can everyone be vigilant and please carry on reporting every single incident; this is how police build a picture and record for evidence. jason.eastwood@.pnn.police.uk (Tel: 07979 707939) [email protected] (Tel: 07785 500952)

Thank you and stay safe!

Nicola Curzon(Mrs) Parish Clerk

A few days later, Nicola wrote again:

The parish council are very disappointed to report that there has been yet more criminal damage in the village. Five glass panels on the BT kiosk outside the School Fields Trust Hall have been smashed. This is particularly upsetting because the council has just paid to have the kiosk renovated in order to house another defibrillator for the village.

If anyone knows who is responsible for these mindless acts of criminal damage, please can you inform Jason Eastwood and Vicki Pressey, our community police officers. Please can you also ensure that every single case of criminal damage is reported correctly to the police using the phone number 101.

We need to work together to get to the bottom of this.

Many thanks

Nicola Curzon Parish Clerk

Having read about vandalism in the village, Bob King wrote:

Such depressing news to keep reading that you are suffering so much from vandalism. A sad reflection of life today. Such a lovely village hall where you hosted 84 Sqn at the time of its 100th anniversary in January 2017.

On a Brighter Note, Nicola Wrote:

Over the past year the Parish Council has worked hard to create an emergency plan for the village. Led by Mike Upton, the plan went live in January. The parish council would like to say a huge thank you to all volunteers in the village who are working tirelessly to ensure that all vulnerable residents are safe. It is amazing to see everyone pulling together to support others during the Covid 19 crisis. The parish council had published a list of other voluntary groups offering help during the crisis on the latest news section of the website.

Other News from The New Forest Police

Burglaries: One house has been burgled this month. It was a holiday let just outside and although nothing was stolen quite a large amount of damage was done when the offenders broke in.

Ten outbuildings, garages and sheds were broken into in March. The worst theft saw over £6,000 worth of tools taken from a property on the outskirts of Lyndhurst and over £3,000 worth from another theft in . Two large secure containers were targeted at Gardens and other thefts took place in , Brockenhurst, Ashurst, and Woodlands.

A quad bike was stolen during a burglary at a hotel on the Rhinefield Ornamental Drive, but because it had been fitted with a tracker it was easily recovered by us and returned to its owners.

Theft from Motor Vehicles: 12 vehicles have been broken into this month, three of which were parked overnight at the Travelodge at Stoney Cross. If you know anyone who uses that hotel, will you please tell them that it’s regularly targeted by thieves. The other vehicles broken into were mostly work vans parked in Lyndhurst, Bartley, Minstead, East Boldre and . Only two vehicles parked in New Forest car parks were broken into this month - they were in Millyford Bridge and Fritham.

A van was also stolen this month from an industrial unit at . The vehicle was full of white goods but on a cycle patrol of the area the following day we found the van burnt out in a field not too far away but the white goods had been “hidden” nearby and are now back with their rightful owners.

Can you help us identify those responsible for a series of incidents in East Boldre? Over the past month there has been damage caused to the Village hall roof, the bus stop opposite the Post Office and some of the sheds on the allotments. One of the sheds was dragged into the village and set fire too. If you know who is responsible for these problems, then let PC 2901 Jason Eastwood know so we can put an end to it. Thank you.

Cyber criminals are exploiting people’s interest in Coronavirus to steal login details and to download malware. This has increased as more people have become reliant on internet-based services because they are working from home or in isolation. Please read and follow the current advice from the National Cyber Security Centre to avoid becoming a victim of a coronavirus related cyber-attack. https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/news/cyber-experts-step-criminals-exploit-coronavirus

A Message from Hampshire’s Assistant Chief Constable, Scott Chilton

A Thank You and Reminder about Non-Essential Travel Ahead of Easter Holiday

This weekend marks the beginning of the Easter holidays for families across Hampshire, and with it an upturn in weather is expected.

Normally, the Easter holidays would signify catching up with family and friends and spending time outside in the many open spaces, beaches and national parks that are available to us throughout Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

However, in these unprecedented times, the public, as well as the police, are continuing to adjust to the new measures put in place by the UK Government due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Assistant Chief Constable Scott Chilton said, “As we all adjust to these new measures, it has been reassuring to see how well people have adapted to quite unique and challenging circumstances. And I want to thank you for that.

“We appreciate that everyone will want to take advantage of the expected upturn in weather and visit local green spaces, beaches and national parks.

“But right now, our main priority is to protect our local communities, and as such we would urge everyone to follow the government advice; stay at home to prevent the spread of infection and keep our loved ones safe.

“We will continue to be out this weekend to ensure social distancing is happening and everyone is staying safe.”

The public are being reminded that the Government have advised that people should only leave their home for very limited purposes, which include:

• shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine

• one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household

• any medical need, including to donate blood, avoid or escape risk of injury or harm, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person

• travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home

ACC Chilton, continued, “We are trying to engage, explain and encourage everyone to follow the advice being issued by my officers.

“We may need to ask you about your circumstances if we see you out and about or travelling so please continue to consider if your journey is essential.

“However, where people do not comply, then we will direct people to go home, and, if necessary, we will issue a fine. We see this as a last resort, but we will use our powers if we have to.

“Each and every one of us can find a way to interpret the law to suit our individual circumstances. The whole purpose of these measures is to avoid unnecessary contact and reduce the spread of infection. We all have a part to play in that.”
