During the year Meiji 25Sumi Kitamura is penniless and her Stepping on Roses Eisuke, a womanizer and gambler, constantly leaves them in debt while bringing even more orphaned children home to feed. When her adopted sister, Tomi, becomes ill, Sumi finds that no doctors will help her as they are poor and no one is willing to give her money for medicine to save Tomi. Then as Sumi is crying on the road a handsome man gives her a handkerchief and some Stepping on Roses, telling her to stop crying as smiles beckon happiness into her life before disappearing. Later a debt collector turns up at Sumi's house demanding yen. Eisuke is nowhere to be found and it is revealed that he had been making advances on the debt Stepping on Roses wife. The man Stepping on Roses that he will take away all of Sumi's younger siblings and sell them into slavery. Desperate to save Stepping on Roses siblings, Sumi goes to the red light district in an attempt to raise the money in one night. Just when she thinks there's no more hope, a man named Soichiro Ashida appears and says that he will buy her. Sumi goes with Stepping on Roses only to find that he was paying her to marry him! They immediately go to the church and afterwards he says that he'll pay for anything she could possibly want, but she has to marry him and not fall for him and that he will never love her. Sumi agrees and they get married. The series is also being adapted as a light novel, that runs in Cobalt. Deb Stepping on Roses of About. She also mentions that occasionally the melodrama is a bit much, but that she "can't wait to find out" what will happen next. Fifteen year old Sumi Kitamura was the eldest girl in a family of six orphaned children living in Japan during the Meiji era. She spent her days with her younger adopted siblings, doing what she could to care for them in a household with little food and less money to buy it with. Making matters Stepping on Roses was her elder brother Eisuke, a playboy who not only gambled away what little money he managed to earn, but also had a habit of bringing home any abandoned young children he could find. With an ever increasing burden and a family spiraling deeper into debt that she had no means of repaying, Sumi was left with little hope for the Stepping on Roses. Those last shreds of hope were quickly dashed when an enraged debt collector burst into their home one night demanding to find Eisuke, who the man had just caught attempting to seduce his wife. In desperation Sumi decided to sell her body, though she quickly found that no one was willing to pay such a price. It was then that she met a well- dressed and obviously wealthy stranger by the name of Soichiro Ashida, who made an unusual offer… he would pay her any amount of money she wished, but in return she must agree to leave her old family behind to become his wife. Sumi's reaction to roses is a bit over-the-top. It's sweet that Soichiro was Stepping on Roses to console her. Just that these 2 really need to discuss their feelings. He told her not to love him, so she was scared to admit she really does. Then, he got upset when she said what she thought he wanted to hear. Soichirou doesn't seem to realize there's a spy in their midst even though he suspected Keiko as soon as she showed up. I guess he decided to give her the benefit of the Stepping on Roses. Bad move because she's once again followed them Stepping on Roses Sumi's house and discovered their secret! She tells Natsuki at which point he seems to be done with her. I wonder if she Stepping on Roses anything now? Nozomu has completely broken Miu it seems. I feel bad for her. That guy needs serious help. That painting he did of Sumi is creepy. What I don't get is that she seems attracted to him and scared of him at the same time. I don't understand why she allows herself to be alone with him.

The prequel was Tail of the Moon sweet, it actually made Tail of the Moon read the whole tail of the moon series X! R to L Japanese Style. This is an awesome series! I know that is counter-intuitive, but that is what I have noticed. Much more that the 'Tail of the Moon' couple. When I had finish the tail of the moon series the prequel came out. The story was quite complete, but I'll read on, that's for sure. Yes, please. Decently written, but very uninspired. The growth of the main female characters is amazing.
