This journey will be filled with numerous lifelong friendships, experiences, and opportunities. Established at the College of New Jersey (later Princeton University) on December 24, 1824, our Fraternity has witnessed our members distinguish themselves in virtually every walk of life. Chi Phi was founded on friendship and for almost two centuries has steadfastly stood for Truth, Honor and Personal Integrity. As members of Chi Phi, we profess and subscribe to a higher form of friendship that we refer to as Brotherhood. Chi Phis are gentlemen who respect and defend the rights of others. We profess a devotion to high moral conduct and responsible citizenship. We are today’s campus leaders and tomorrow’s world leaders. As members of the Fraternity we have a sacred obligation to one another. Membership requires that we demonstrate a spirit of sincerity and respect toward each member. We can be diverse yet be of one heart. We can agree to disagree, but at the end of the day we can still embrace in the spirit of Brotherhood. Finding Aid for Phi Sigma Phi Omega Chapter Records, 1932-1992 Stout Series 209 Overview of Collection Repository: UW-Stout Archives and Area Research Center 315 10th Ave. East Menomonie, WI 54751 715-232-2300 [email protected] Collection Number: Stout Series 209 Creators: Phi Sigma Phi Omega Chapter Title: Phi Sigma Phi Omega Chapter Records Dates: 1932-1992 Quantity: 1.2 cubic feet Location of Collection: 19-3-A Languages: English Summary: This collection includes organization records, including meeting minutes, financial materials, and ephemera, for the Omega Chapter of Phi Sigma Phi at Stout. Historical Note In 1929, Kappa Phi Sigma was formed to promote knowledge, friendship, and social life among college men. This fraternal organization, only the second formed on campus, was recognized as a college group in the autumn of 1932. Supported by twenty initial members, the chapter quickly became one of the leading organizations on campus. Over the next twenty years, K.F.S. participated in various activities on campus, which included the crowning of several Homecoming and Prom Queens , the building of sophisticated parade floats, and the organizing of eloquent school dances including the annual "Orchids for M'Lady" Dance and the Spring Formal Dinner Dance. In addition, the chapter often competed with other campus organizations in grudge matches, bridge tournaments, pledge initiations, skits, and other recreational activities. Despite the heavy toll World War II had on membership, the chapter never ceased operations during the period. In 1952, K.F.S. had become so prominent on campus, the men captured the attention of Phi Sigma Epsilon, a national fraternity founded in 1910, and based in Indianapolis, Indiana.

A MESSAGE FROM JON AXELSSON IFC VICE PRESIDENT FOR RECRUITMENT Dear Future Fraternity Member, Congratulations on taking your first step towards becoming a true Penn Stater. Your time spent at Penn State will work to shape and define the man you will become for the rest of your life. You have an opportunity to decide which aspects of student life you experi- ence to the fullest, and which you miss out on completely. Joining a fraternity is a decision that will provide you with opportunities you simply can- not find elsewhere. Fraternities at Penn State participate in every aspect of student life and provide additional opportunities that are not available to those who don’t partici- pate. Every year, fraternity men participate in community service, philanthropy, intra- mural sports, Dance Marathon, and more. Beyond that, they learn to manage functional households, often with operating budgets of more than $150,000, balance a social life with a professional life, network with successful alumni across the nation, and gain invaluable leadership experience in the process. Fraternity life has played a vital role in shaping Penn State’s history. As seen below, many of Penn State’s historic leaders, and leaders of our nation, were members of fraternities. For example, legendary football coach Joe Paterno joined a fraternity at Brown, and some of Penn State’s greatest presidents are in fraternities -- George Atherton, Milton Eisenhower, Edwin Sparks, and James Beaver. This distinction may come as a shock to you, but the truth may be much more surprising: most of America’s greatest leaders are members of a fraternity, including all but three presidents since 1825, and 80% of For- tune 500 executives were members of a fraternity.

It is to these men that all FARMHOUSE men owe their heritage. It is to these men that this Handbook is dedicated. In the true spirit of FARMHOUSE FRATERNITY, its Founders would want this honor not for themselves alone but for all members of the Fraternity.
