The day will start with the Charlton Cup 07/04 Thur Charlton Cup double-handed race 9:00am double-handed race - skipper's meeting at 9am. We will have 07/04 Thur Commodore's Day Brunch 1:00pm a lunch prepared by yours truly (OK, prepared by the 07/04 Thur Commodore's Day Opti Race 3:00pm Commodorable, my lovely wife Kathy, who actually runs 07/06 Sat Cruising Fleet meeting 6:00pm the ship). Lunch will be served at 1pm. 07/07 Sun Sunday morning race 9:00am At 3pm, join us in the Commodore's Funday Race. Races 07/07 Sun SJRT Area E Semi at CLYC will be an anything goes elimination series, open to all who 07/09 Tues SSC Board meeting 7:00pm dare to participate and will take place in Optis. There will also be a top Commodore/Past 07/14 Sun Sunday morning race 9:00am Commodores division so I challenge all of my predecessors to 07/17-21 Interlake Nationals BRING IT. 07/17 Wed Wednesday night race (burgers-SJRT) 7:00pm 07/19 Fri Jr. Race Team at Port Clinton YC I wanted to remind everyone of the events going on in July and 07/21 Sun Sunday morning NO RACE 9:00am August and what to expect when you come to the club during 07/21-25 I-LYA Jr. Bay Week the events. 07/24 Wed Wednesday night race (burgers-Intlk) 7:00pm Interlake Nationals will start July 17 with measurement, and 07/28 Sun Sunday morning race 9:00am Junior and Women's Nationals. Racing will start July 18 and 07/28 Sun SJRT Opti Great Lakes at EWYC finish Sunday July 21 mid-afternoon. This past winter and spring have brought record rainfall and the highest Lake Erie levels since the 1920s. As a result, even getting on the water has been an effort. Bob Sagan stepped down from the ISCA Marketing Vice President position in December of 2018. He has devoted 15+ years on the board and wants to sail with his daughter more before she grows up. Michigan Fleet 38 has hosted national championships in 2015, 2009, and 2001. Bob designed banners for events and signs which have been used at boat shows and regattas. He was instrumental getting the Interlake in the finals of the Sears Junior Championships in 2014. Bob has always been the “go to” guy at Traverse City. In my Coast Guard Day p13 mind, the idea of an “annual regatta” is not just the high Coming Events p14 point of any yacht club’s sailing season, but a time-tested Heard ‘Round the Club p14 responsibility in which our club serves to both draw us together as well as welcoming guests from across our region. On the bulkhead of my Tartan 27, Olin, hangs a framed postcard from a very different era that depicts an extremely familiar scene. Most likely produced in the late ‘40s or early ‘50s, it depicts the awards ceremony at the end of a regatta at the Put-In-Bay Yacht Club on Lake Erie. The scene is identical to that of similar occasions that most of us have attended. If you’ll indulge my practice of undergraduate-level art history interpretation, I’ll point out many of the constants that we see to this day.

By Brad Beebe Y-2692 Looking back on the 2011 Beers, three things come to mind. Wind, wind, and wind. Winds stayed in the 12 MPH range with typical Atlanta Yacht Club gusts for pretty much all of Saturday and Sunday, creating some great conditions for the Juniors, Gold and Blue fleets. The lake was, shall we say, depth challenged as it can be this time of year. But that was a minor nuisance because about the only gasoline burning boats on the lake were the committee, rescue, mark, and spectator boats. Friday started off with Karl Andersen’s annual golf tournament. Ten players competed for the coveted green PFD. Pem Williams, Christa Ross and Steve Ross edged out the other teams to take top honors. Hungry golfers and non-golfers enjoyed Shirley Gore’s traditional chili dinner before retiring to dreams of holes in 2011 Beers Regatta Champions John and Andrea Bright make sailing in heavy air look easy as they one and perfect tacks. managed a 2, 2, 1 taking home the silver with three points to spare.     Portsmouth Number List 2016 The RYA Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme is provided to enable clubs to allow boats of different classes to race against each other fairly. The RYA actively encourages clubs to adjust handicaps where classes are either under or over performing compared to the number being used. The Portsmouth Yardstick list combines the Portsmouth numbers with class configuration and the total number of races returned to the RYA in the annual return. This additional data has been provided to help clubs achieve the stated aims of the Portsmouth Yardstick system and make adjustments to Portsmouth Numbers where necessary. Clubs using the PN list should be aware that the list is based on the typical performance of each boat across a variety of clubs and locations. Experimental numbers are based on fewer returns and are to be used as a guide for clubs to allocate as a starting number before reviewing and adjusting where necessary. The list of experimental Portsmouth Numbers will be periodically reviewed by the RYA and is based on data received from the PY Online website (www.pys.org.uk). Users of the PY scheme are reminded that all Portsmouth Numbers published by the RYA should be regarded as a guide only. The RYA list is not definitive and clubs should adjust where necessary.
