Three popular events were featured in the Kravis Center’s 2018-2019 ArtSmart Lunch & Learn series. Lee Wolf and Steven Caras co-chair the series in association with the Kravis Center Cultural Society.

Susan Bloom, Judy Mitchell, Jack and It was an afternoon filled with love and memories when Leonard Lauder Scott Eyman Bonnie Stern Goldie Wolfe Miller and Judy Glickman Lauder discussed “Finding Love Again” at the Kravis Center’s first ArtSmart Lunch & Learn of the season on January 21. The luncheon was sponsored by Patricia and Edward Falkenberg.

“Finding Love Again” was a conversation between the Lauders and Lee Wolf. The Lauders first met in 1981 in Aspen, while in their first marriages. Over the next 30 years, they built many memories as friends. After losing their spouses, the Lauders began their courtship in 2014 and were married in January 2015.

The subsequent Lunch & Learn event, entitled Louis B. Mayer and the Betty Levin, Beth Mishkin, Penni Weinberg, Screen Goddesses He Discovered: Joan Crawford, Lana Turner and Pam Pantzer Ellen Levine Greta Garbo was held on February 18. It was no secret that MGM’s heyday was led by producer-loving, director-loathing Louis B. Mayer. His rapport with his roster of stars was divulged in a revealing dialog between Scott Eyman, New York Times bestselling writer and author of Lion of Hollywood: The Life and Legend of Louis B. Mayer; and Steven Caras. This luncheon was sponsored by Susan Bloom.

The final program of the Lunch & Learn series, Portnoy’s Complainer: A Conversation about the Remarkable Life and Work of Philip Roth was on March 18. Lee Wolf and Steven Caras shared a no holds-barred discussion about Roth, a leading voice in America’s literature. The workshop introduced the language of visual art so that teachers could feel confident using art as a reference in their daily teaching and student assignments. For example, teachers learned how portraits can be used to efficiently build background knowledge, teach content and assess understandings in social studies, science and reading. For the following two school days, Ms. Rick visited classrooms at the Academy for Positive Learning in Lake Worth and demonstrated the strategies she taught at the workshop.
