Whatever your views it would be nice to have a decision made. I suspect a good many politicians will not be re- elected come the next general election be it because of Brexit or de-selection. We keep being told we need to vote again but what if those now dithering then get chucked out themselves. If only parliament was as organised and on top of things like the railways...oh they’re not !! It does however seem that some of the new stock will finally get into service come the May timetable but as for Crossrail, the Cl.345s will all be rusty by the time that opens. One aspect of the railway scene though does seem to be racing along and that is modernising the signalling systems so much so that a week doesn’t go by without another tranche of semaphores and signal boxes being consigned to history. It is having an effect on what locations get photographed and will reduce the variety and interest...getting very nostalgic. As for traction, some on the GWR routes are already bored with IETS, ECML is next, you have been warned !! Thank goodness for GBRf who alone must have more livery variations on more locos than all other companies put together, more in this issue. I have tried this month to get a grip on a couple of ongoing series with a list of signal boxes used and pending and the remaining nameplates supplied now illustrated plus an updated list of those still outstanding. Two outstanding RAILWAY GLOBETROTTER articles have finally been penned with a few more to go in the next couple of issues, namely Isle of Man (KGk) Sri Lanka (PS) and Norway (SD). That should get me back on track with those. I have several individual articles now penned to drop in on the following series, SIGNAL BOX SURVEY, RAILWAY VEHICLES, ACCIDENTS and GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN. On the later three I always need more photos and how about photos for THEN & NOW as that is like drawing blood. Similarly I have a few more examples ready for WD AUSTRITY 0-6-0ST LOCO SURVEY and OFF THE BEATEN TRACK. Hopefully that will help keep TRACKS on schedule in the very busy next 3 months with various events to attend. However in order to catch up and fit a variety of different articles I have reluctantly cut back on the TRAFFIC & TRACTION NEWS section though a lot of members photos now appear in different sections. IMPORTANT PLEASE READ BELOW If you haven’t already can you please read my Editorial on spam emails in the March issue. Very apt as several members received spam emails again around the 27th March from a member. I re-iterate you will never get unsolicited emails in my personal name or in the name of ICRS from other members so just ignore and delete and NEVER open a link. I suggest all those with emails ensure you run proper virus checks. I, as do many others, have top line security and update automatically but not all do. One problem may be members running old computers which are not updated and with out of date operating systems. Remember if you use email and are not on Windows 10 and for a short time Windows 7, before that is dumped by Microsoft in January 2020, then you run the serious risk of virus attacks which can grab your email contacts. Can I please ask if you want to query a strange email DO NOT forward / copy the email with the message / link, send a clean separate one. With over a thousand members with emails all who have my email I am at great risk if you do not keep your own house in order. Remember it is like a pyramid with each member also having their own contact list and so on. Sadly the world is getting more technologically entwined with more use of unprotected mobile email and those wishing to conduct mischief on the rise, so having the benefits of technology also means we unfortunately have to be on our guard at all times however b****y annoying that is now becoming. Can I also ask anyone with an email in my own personal name deletes that contact as I will only use the ICRS ones. Just like cold calls which cannot be stopped, life is becoming less carefree when using any technology for communication. I can see how a monks life is appealing with no possessions, especially one with a vow of silence !!! A few members are forgetting or did not read the previous notification that all Membership cards issued since March 2018 are now for LIFE. It is written on the back of them. You will not get a new card on renewal from now on. The only cards now to be issued to existing members will be for 5 year members on renewal / switch to annual membership as they come up in the next couple of years. 3 Errata: March 2019 – P26 57309 passed at 14.45 heading for Toton, p40 end of caption for top photo should read 29th January 2019 (Mike Brook) Membership Matters: New Members: (12) (* ex-members re-joined) (AFC – Additional Family Child, AFA – Additional Family Adult) David Ashman (Swindon), Mark Bailey (Whitehead, NI), Steve Beames (Gosport), Chris Bennett (Whitchurch), Mark Challenger (Cullompton), Peter Doxey* (Clitheroe}, Andy Floyd (Taunton), Neal Garrett (Matlock), Neil Kemp (Newhaven), Ron Lander (Worthing), Gordon Marshall (Studley), Paul Robinson (Stafford) - a warm welcome to you all. Introduction Purpose of the document This Fact Pack document was initially produced in 2010 to help inform the town/parish council about the characteristics of their parish for the ‘community view’ consultation. This consultation was undertaken early on in the preparation of the Vale of Aylesbury Plan as part of a bottom up approach embracing localism and aiming to get local communities more involved in the planning process. The town/parish council were asked to consult with their community on the following: The level of future housing and/or employment development up to 2031, including specific types of homes, employment and other development The location, sizes and phasing of development The types of infrastructure (social, community, physical) needed to enable development, including where it should be located Any other issues relating to planning and development This Fact Pack document has also been used to support neighbourhood planning by providing evidence for the context of the neighbourhood plan, including information on housing, employment, infrastructure and the environment. This Fact Pack document has also been used to support the Vale of Aylesbury Plan Settlement Hierarchy Assessment. This forms part of the evidence that classifies settlements into different categories, where different levels of growth are apportioned to over the next 20 years.

BUCKINGHAMSHIRE POTS, POTTERS AND POTTERIES, C.1200–1910 BY MICHAEL FARLEY AND BARBARA HURMAN Offprinted from RECORDS OF BUCKS Vol. 55 2015 BUCKINGHAMSHIRE POTS, POTTERS AND POTTERIES, c.1200–1910 MICHAEL FARLEY AND BARBARA HURMAN An attempt is made to list Buckinghamshire’s pottery production sites and potters from the thirteenth century until c.1910 and to give a short description of their products where known. The information is derived from confirmed kiln sites, from surface finds of ‘waster’ material which indicate production, and from a range of documentary sources including field names. There remains considerable scope for further local research; a number of suspected production sites have not yet been located on the ground and further local study would certainly identify other potters and link named potters to specific locations. Several features have emerged from the study. Firstly, a number of production sites are known to have been active in recent centuries, but for which there is no earlier record. It is suspected that some of these may have had earlier undocumented activity. Secondly, and perhaps unsurprisingly, many pottery centres were located on agriculturally marginal land. Thirdly, several of the pottery families followed their trade over generations and this is likely to have been the case long before documentation becomes available. Finally, the number of ‘pot hawkers’ recorded, particularly in the mid-nineteenth century, is surprising as it almost equals the number of working potters; their role in distributing the wares of country potteries may have been underestimated in the past. quently exposed, for example by being ploughed up, I NTRODUCT ION weathering of their relatively soft and open fabric Until shortly before the Roman conquest all pottery may leave little trace of them.
