DAYTONA a New Play by Oliver Cotton For Immediate Release Press Release Lee Dean and Jenny Topper in association with Park Theatre presents DAYTONA A new play by Oliver Cotton Starring Maureen Lipman, Harry Shearer and John Bowe, and directed by David Grindley, Daytona will tour the UK for seven weeks this autumn. Daytona is a brand new play by actor and playwright, Oliver Cotton. "See the ripples? You’re underneath. Your body’s under those ripples." Daytona is a brand new play by Oliver Cotton, which today announced its UK tour. After its premiere at the Park Theatre, London on the 17 July, Daytona will embark on a seven week tour visiting Rose Theatre Kingston, Watford Palace Theatre, Clwyd Theatr Cymru, Oxford Playhouse, Lyceum Theatre Sheffield, Malvern Festival Theatre and Bath Theatre Royal. Directed by David Grindley and starring Maureen Lipman, Harry Shearer (The Simpsons, This is Spinal Tap, Saturday Night Live) and John Bowe (Cranford, Sweeney Todd), Daytona is a haunting, funny and poignant play full of mystery, with not one but two love stories at its heart. Happy in their shared passion for ballroom dancing, Joe and Elli plan to win the next big competition. But the unexpected arrival of a figure from their past threatens to throw everything off balance. What can this man possibly want of them on this cold winter’s night? What can be gained from this uneasy reunion? When they discover the story behind his sudden return, Joe and Elli must confront a profound moral dilemma. Oliver Cotton (playwright) is primarily known as an actor but as a writer his credits include Wet Weather Cover (King’s Head & Arts Theatre), The Incredible Journey of Sir Francis Younghusband, The Enoch Show (Royal Court), Scrabble (National Theatre) and Man Falling Down (Shakespeare’s Globe). For television, A Touch of Frost and Diamond Geezer; and for film, Singing for Stalin, Peeping Through, Deadline, Sofa and The English Game. He has recently appeared in Passion Play in the West End. David Grindley (Director) has directed internationally on a number of projects as well as in the West End and UK tours. Credits include The American Plan (Theatre Royal, Bath), Our Boys (Duchess), Enron (Tokyo), Copenhagen (Sheffield), The Misanthrope (Stratford, Canada), Journey’s End (Tour/ Duke of York’s), Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell (Tour), Six Degrees of Separation (Old Vic), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Stratford, Canada), The Philanthropist (Broadway), The American Plan (Broadway), Crown Matrimonial (Tour), Blackbird (Tour), Pygmalion (Broadway), Journey’s End (Broadway - 2007 Tony Award for Best Revival), In The Club (Hampstead/Tour), Honour (Wyndhams), The Philanthropist (Donmar), National Anthems (Old Vic), What The Butler Saw (Hampstead/Criterion), Some Girls (Gielgud), Abigail’s Party (Hampstead/Ambassadors/Tour), Loot (Chichester/Vaudeville), Single Spies (Tour) and Richard III (Mercury, Colchester). Maureen Lipman (playing Ellie) has had a prolific acting career. Her many theatre credits include When We Were Married (Garrick Theatre), A Little Night Music (Menier Chocolate Factory and Garrick Theatre), Aladdin (Old Vic), Thoroughly Modern Millie (Shaftesbury Theatre), Old Money, Peggy For You (Hampstead Theatre), Re-Joyce (West End, national tour and US transfer), and extensive work for the National Theatre, including Oklahoma! (also West End), Macbeth, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, Jumpers, The Front Page and The School for Scandal. Her television work includes Ladies of Letters, Skins, He Kills Coppers, Sensitive Skin, About Face, All at No. 20, Agony, Cold Enough for Snow and Eskimo Day; and for film, Bridge of Lies, Flight of Fancy, The Pianist, Carry on Columbus, Educating Rita and Gumshoe. Harry Shearer (playing Joe) has provided voice work for The Simpsons since it began in 1987, most notably as Mr. Burns, Principle Skinner, and Ned Flanders. He was a writer and cast member of Saturday Night Live and is famed for his collaborations with Christopher Guest and friends, in particular as co-writer and the role of bassist Derek Smalls in This is Spinal Tap. Shearer began his career as a child actor, appearing in The Jack Benny Program, as well as the films Abbott and Costello Go to Mars and The Robe. His series Nixon’s the One will be broadcast on Sky Arts this autumn following a successful pilot last year. His other television work includes two seasons as writer and cast member of Saturday Night Live. His other film work includes The Fisher King, Godzilla and The Truman Show. John Bowe (playing Billy) is perhaps best known for his television roles in Prime Suspect and Coronation Street. His theatre work includes Judge Turpin in the award-winning Sweeney Todd at Chichester Festival Theatre and in the West End, Priscilla Queen of the Desert (Palace Theatre), Terms of Endearment (national tour), The Lady from the Sea and Heartbreak House (Almeida Theatre), The Marriage of Figaro, The Price (Palace Theatre Watford), Saint Joan (OId Vic), The Taming of the Shrew, The Body, Arden of Faversham, Thirteenth Night, As You Like It, Richard II, Hamlet, The White Guard, Captain Swing, Antony and Cleopatra and The Merchant of Venice (RSC) and Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Toward the Somme (Hampstead Theatre). On one side, antisemitism appears as a pressing contemporary problem, intimately connected to an intensification of hostility to Israel. Opposing accounts downplay the fact of antisemitism and tend to treat the charge as an instrumental attempt to de-legitimize criticism of Israel. I address the central relationship both conceptually and through a number of empirical case studies which lie in the disputed territory between criticism and demonization. The paper focuses on current debates in the British public sphere and in particular on the campaign to boycott Israeli academia. Sociologically the paper seeks to develop a cosmopolitan framework to confront the methodological nationalism of both Zionism and anti-Zionism. It does not assume that exaggerated hostility to Israel is caused by underlying antisemitism but it explores the possibility that antisemitism may be an effect even of some antiracist forms of anti- Zionism.

    Hull History Centre: Papers of Alan Plater U DPR Papers of Alan Plater 1936-2012 Accession number: 1999/16, 2004/23, 2013/07, 2013/08, 2015/13 Biographical Background: Alan Frederick Plater was born in Jarrow in April 1935, the son of Herbert and Isabella Plater. He grew up in the Hull area, and was educated at Pickering Road Junior School and Kingston High School, Hull. He then studied architecture at King's College, Newcastle upon Tyne, becoming an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1959 (since lapsed). He worked for a short time in the profession, before becoming a full-time writer in 1960. His subsequent career has been extremely wide-ranging and remarkably successful, both in terms of his own original work, and his adaptations of literary works.     Monday 7 January 2019 FULL CASTING ANNOUNCED FOR THE WEST END TRANSFER OF HOME, I’M DARLING As rehearsals begin, casting is announced for the West End transfer of the National Theatre and Theatr Clwyd’s critically acclaimed co-production of Home, I’m Darling, a new play by Laura Wade, directed by Theatre Clwyd Artistic Director Tamara Harvey, featuring Katherine Parkinson, which begins performances at the Duke of York’s Theatre on 26 January. Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd, Humans) reprises her acclaimed role as Judy, in Laura Wade’s fizzing comedy about one woman’s quest to be the perfect 1950’s housewife. She is joined by Sara Gregory as Alex and Richard Harrington as Johnny (for the West End run, with tour casting for the role of Johnny to be announced), reprising the roles they played at Theatr Clwyd and the National Theatre in 2018. Charlie Allen, Susan Brown (Sylvia), Ellie Burrow, Siubhan Harrison (Fran), Jane MacFarlane and Hywel Morgan (Marcus) complete the cast. Home, I’m Darling will play at the Duke of York’s Theatre until 13 April 2019, with a press night on Tuesday 5 February. The production will then tour to the Theatre Royal Bath, and The Lowry, Salford, before returning to Theatr Clwyd following a sold out run in July 2018. Home, I’m Darling is co-produced in the West End and on tour with Fiery Angel. How happily married are the happily married? Every couple needs a little fantasy to keep their marriage sparkling. But behind the gingham curtains, things start to unravel, and being a domestic goddess is not as easy as it seems.
